Rasul stood at the edge of a cliff, his mouth curved in a scowl as he watched tiny figures moving below. How quick, how easy it would be for each one to be erased off the earth. The thought made his chest tense up and he felt a twinge of pain in his heart. But poor Litho, she would be waiting for him to return and he could hardly do that if he got himself run off and killed by a group of vengeful lions. And it wasn't getting him any closer to his goal.

In the turmoil of the pride's overtaking he had been thrust from his home and some of his children, now grown he supposed, had scattered. That wouldn't do. It would have Litho worried sick, she ought to at least know where they had gone. That was proving more difficult than he had expected. And it frustrated him.

Little specks, nothing more than little insignificant specks of flesh and bone. Broken so easily by say, a rock thrown from above. His mind wandered.

She just wanted to get away. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong for Sendatu. Her desire to take over Theluji failed. She should have been queen, but no. Her pride to be melted away, making it unsafe to rule there. Now she became the lioness she used to be, a wandering healer.

While she was stuck in Theluji she kept her skills sharp. She never knew when healing could come in handy. While there she had thought of many different ways she could have killed the queen. She never would have done it directly, that was too boring. Taking a life of a queen should be something to remember. But it didn't matter now. All that was in the past. She had the present to worry about.

Right now she really just wanted to be alone for a little bit. The day before she had dealt with a family who were terribly ill. She had done everything she could to help them. When she was done, they barely gave her the amount of trinkets she had asked for. She wondered if that was really the value they had put on their lives. Normally she would have been more upset over the matter, however she just put the trinket in her bag and went on her way.

As she made her way to the cliff side she noticed a lion watching out over the land. She debated about turning around and finding a new spot, however she didn't feel it was right for her to turn around after she made her way up the cliff. She went over toward the edge, though keeping her distance from the lion. For now she would watch him from the corner of her eye to see if he was worth dealing with.

Rodents in a run, he thought, his fur bristling slightly at the scent of another. So he was not alone, perhaps it was some vengeful god that watched over this place. That thought made him chuckle aloud. There was no sense in trusting gods for your own protection, everything would be over by the time they arrived. He had feared them in his youth, but now it seemed pointless. Any lion could kill him as easily as a god could, so why should he be any more concerned with them simply because they had powers? The ending would remain the same. Either he would live or he would die.

He would prefer not to die. As he emerged from his thoughts he noticed a mouse peeking its head out of a nearby burrow. Without saying anything he wandered toward it, lifted it up between two claws, and examined it all over. Skinny, but healthy. Though perhaps not smart enough to put in one of his earthen mazes. It would serve as company for now, and then he might decide to let it go. If it would stop squirming.

He moved back to his original spot and held the creature over the edge, narrowing his eyes at it. "Stay still and stop biting me and I'll let you go," he demanded. Slowly the mice gave in, though it continued to tremble as he held it near his paws. "Little mouse," he pondered, "It must be a thing of terror to see the whole world as you do."

As the lion picked up the mouse, she watched with a bit of interest. When she was much younger she had spent most of her time healing mice, it was a bit of an obsession of hers. Though she was also the one who hurt the poor creatures in the first place. She wondered what the lion was going to do to the mouse. Her full attention went to him and the mouse.

“A mouse's life, I imagine, would be of one of simplicity. It has such a small looking head, not much thoughts could run through it. Though emotions are something simple enough for it to understand. He probably doesn't even understand the circumstance he is in. All he knows is that you look terrifying. What he doesn't understand that even if you let him live, it would be only moments till his death. There are so many other terrors out there.”

She walked closer to the lion and smiled. “If I was such a creature like this mouse, I don't know how I would be able to live. I think I would rather have someone put me out of my misery, especially if I didn't fully comprehend my situation. What do you think friend?” Her red eyes watch him with amusement. Perhaps being by herself wasn't what she needed. It had been sometime since she had a real conversation.
