Spay and Neuter

Spaying and Neutering your cat is probably the most beneficial thing you can do for your feline. It prevents them from breeding, cuts down on the amount of behavioral problems, as well as alot of the rucus that an unfixed cat can accomplish.

There are MANY options to go about getting your cat fixed, or desexed, and its a good idea to look into it. Many health problems can be prevented by this procedure.

Benefits of Speutering

There are many benefits to speutering.

Females~ Spay

By spaying a female cat, it is the removal of all her reproductive organs. The uterus, the ovaries, etc. Females are generally more exspensive to fix, because they are actually removing the goodies. Recovery is a little harsher, but cats are rather hardy creatures.

Unfixed Females tend to:
~Be obnoxious with their yowling at all awful hours of the day/night
~Have a high chance of escaping to mate
~Have agression issues that accompony thier heat cycles
~Can have 2 to 3 litters (or more) a year
~Have a higher chance of peeing/spraying (yes, females mark too)
~Higher risk of cancers

Males~ Neuter

When you neuter a male cat, it is the sniping of the tube that connects to the testicles or the full removal of the testes (for instance if one didnt drop). The price is considerably cheaper, recovery time reduced, and have a heap full of benefits.

Unfixed Males tend to:
~Spray upon reaching full sexual maturity
~Become Roaming Toms
~More territorial resulting in turf wars
~Shortened life span
~Have a higher chance of cancers and illness related to the reproductive system

The Wallet Factor

For many of us, our budgets are tights and we hear the age old claim that "its too exspensive to get my cat fixed." 10 to 15 years ago, this might have been the truth. Vet Practices generally charge 150$ per male, and 300$ for females. This includes generally an overnight stay, pain killers, and the cone of shame.

But there is other options.

Many humane societys, rescues, and low income spay/neuter clinics have started programs for speutering assistance.

The ASPCA Low Income Spay and Neuter Clinics

Check your local shelters and TNR programs in your area to find low income in your area. :3 And some places just offer low prices due to the fact they want to end cat overpopulation. These place generally charge 25-30$ for males and 35-40$ for females. Some are even free, and they do vary on price.
