"Mom, I don't think you're supposed to hold the sword like that," Annabel pointed out. Her mother, Vierra, was holding the very end of the blade so tightly her knuckles had turned white and the sword tilted to the side at a very bad angle. "Don't be silly, Anna, this feels right" Annabel highly doubted it "and look, it's even up straight." Annabel stared for a second, and then sighed, running a hand through her golden locks. "Mom, it's not supposed to be upright." Vierra made a very unlady-like snort and waved it around, dangerously close to her nose. "I think I'd know better, Anna. I've been around much longer." She was almost tempted to make a wise crack about exactly how old Vierra was, but set it aside. This wasn't the time. "Look, mom, it's really going to hurt if you poke your eye out-" "Don't you think I should be the one saying things like that? Of course. Because I'm your mother, and much, much older." With and aggravated sigh, Annabel tucked her precious sword into its sheath and turned on her heel, headed toward the forest. "Where are you going?" "For a walk."

We always carry on; stand up and carry on!
The day was shining through in beams of light which dappled the forest's grassy knolls and shrubbery. Algarada had been, for the most part, in company of her attendants and Knights who she kept beside her always.
"You seem tired my lady---Shall we stop for afternoon tea?" Algarada gave him a look, the knight stiffened immediately.
"You may stop, if you wish, I will press onward and follow the steams. You may come find me when the pages have caught their breath," she ordered.
Smarter than most gave her credit for, the gesture to the rear of the entourage let the knight know the Queen would not be pleased if her pages, who at the moment were gasping for air, were too tired to perform their duties once they reached the next village.
"Yes your highness," the knight bowed, taking his leave and beginning to order the lot to stop for rest. The hush of the water and whispers in the forest were a welcome sight for the Gwilith Queen. She normally would not so brazenly be by herself, but with sword at her hip she felt no reason at all to fear the depths of such a peaceful place.
Her hooves lead her to the edge of a stream, where she knelt to drink of the Earth Mother's plentiful spring waters.

Annabel sighed heavily, plopping herself down on a stone and leaned against a conveniently placed tree. She propped her sword up against another tree and stared at it, contemplating. It had been quite some time since her mother had adopted her, but she still felt since she'd been adopted she hadn't learned a thing. If she ever wanted to be knight, she'd need to have proper mentor, whether Vierra liked it or not. She liked to think she knew everything about anything because she'd been around for so long, but she preferred to use her magic as a weapon than an actual weapon. A spell she could learn from her, how to curse an enemy or something like that, but certainly nothing to do with a sword. But where would she find someone to teach her this late in the game? As she sat contemplating this, she heard someone stop at a stream only a few yards away, but separated by the strand of trees she occupied. She tried to peer between the branches, but they were placed so closely together she couldn't see much - a flash of wings, purple armor, a sword-A sword? "Ah, hello? Is anyone there?"

her hands fell to the water as she finished her fill. Hair dangled dangerously close to the water and threatened to mar its beautiful waves with a fast drenching of liquid.
Wind blowing around her, she sighed, wings finally flat against her back as she stood. Her hand was on her sword, she patted gently as a voice came from the forest.
Algarada's wings flared into a tremendous height; flitting and making her light on her feet. Ears twitched, listening for sound of hostility.
"Indeed. Now show yourself , friend, or feel the wrath of my blade."
Her words cut through the hushed murmurs of the stream and smaller animals who were hiding skittered away from the noise. Her voice was well carried, as most Gwilith had to be, since in flight speech was hard to understand sometimes.
The shadows on the opposite side of the stream seemed uneven and her sword's point almost lead her to point at the treeline subconsciously.

She stiffened slightly, quickly grabbing her precious sword and hugging it to herself. The sad thing was that even though she had a weapon she could protect herself with, she had no idea how to use it. How utterly depressing. Nevertheless, she held the sword the awkward way her mother had taught her too, much too tightly at that, and held it out straight, point at anyone who came at her. She cautiously crept around the strand of trees, assessing whoever had threatened her. She seemed very familiar, although from where she didn't know. Perhaps someone of the aristocracy? She certainly looked the part. She compared the way they held their swords and dropped hers in defeat. She could tell that compared to this woman, she would be sliced to ribbons whether or not she had a sword. She looked so experienced with it . . . "Er, I'm Annabel." She shifted nervously from hoof to hoof under her scrutiny.

Algarada took little time assessing the shaky framed female. When she finally emerged from the woods Algarada almost laughed, but restrained herself and instead put her sword to her side when the woman dropped her own.
"You are in the presence of Algarada Lacertus Lexiel---The Sword Queen." her posture was regal, obviously raised in the lands of the Sword and a proud Gwilith, wings flared in her usual fashion.
Wind blew between the two and swirled some leaves pleasantly into the water. It was far too good a day to be so tense.
Her arms relaxed slightly, the girl was little threat if any, but the Queen would never underestimate an opponent.
"You carry a sword and Drop it when you face an opponent? Such an odd tactic, and the way you hold your weapon...?" the queen looked perplexed trying to figure out how much she could trust such a woman.

She narrowed her eyes threateningly at the imposing woman. She might not have any experience, and she certainly didn't appreciate being laughed at, even if the woman held it back. Courteous or not, she wasn't a joke. She couldn't be blamed for the fact that her mother could barely differentiate the hilt from the blade, pain aside. She relaxed her posture the tiniest bit when she lowered her sword, but remained tall and proud. But she didn't put her sword in its sheath. The posture went from proud but relaxed to rigid once more; she couldn't be sure what to do in the presence of the Queen of the land she currently was traveling in. Did she curtsey or something? She tossed it aside; curtseying was for girly girls, which she was not. She'd just play ignorant traveler. "Well, ah, it's an honor?" It felt weird addressing a Queen. "Yeah, well, my mom's not much of a teacher. I don't think she's ever actually wielded a sword, but she tries to act like she does and teach me. And I don't really consider you an opponent," she added.

Algarada had given her ample time to readjust herself and form a proper greeting but with her awkward pride and lack of a sign of courtesy the queen was forced to assume this girls was of simple upbringings.
'I see." She spoke commandingly even when not ordering anyone to do anything. She did, however, relax when blades were lowered. Her own was pointed at the ground now un-threateningly as she pointed its tip tot he girl's sword.
"Then allow me to educate you on how to hold your blade," the queen ordered, more or less demanding it occur.
Her own swished, blindingly fast through the air, it was made for her family and had been in the power of the Royals for generation upon generation, each member adding their own distinction and advancement to it , making it an eclectic work of art over then centuries; the best of all worlds, as her grandmother always said.
"Hold it in your hand like you hold a pencil, a needle, its point is absolute and an extension of your innermost mearh... Tan t'ien is your center, have you any idea where it is?" she asked her new pupil who, more or less, was being taught ether or not they needed it.
It was her kingdom, after all, and if this woman were to meet a bandit or slave trader instead of her queen? What then? She would be done for--and the world of men would have snuffed all her beauty from the world.
And the only other thing the queen loved more than a good match, was a beautiful thing...

The Queen seemed to assume exactly what Annabel wanted her to assume and took no offense to the impropriety. There had to be something much worse than being taken as simple. "Er, alright," she said, shrugging inwardly. Honestly, if she didn't want to hurt her, that was absolutely fantastic, and if she could learn something useful, from the Sword Queen, no less, than she would happily oblige and learn as much as she could in the time she had her. Who knew what kind of Queenly engagements she would have? She'd have to leave eventually. Time to take advantage of this stroke of luck. She flinched back at the swing of her blade and brought her own up clumsily in defense, the position awkward. This she needed to fix. She let her shoulders slump once she realized the Queen meant her no harm, though. The sword was beautiful, much like her own, although the Queen held hers with grace and poise that gave it an extra edge of elegance. She was instantly jealous, but didn't let it on. Her blade would look so beautiful if only she knew how to use it. She nodded and fumbled the blade trying to as she asked. At first, the blade pointed down like the point of the pencil, but comparing hers and the Queen's she decided it couldn't possibly go like that. So instead she pointed in upward and a little out, like she'd always thought it should be. "So . . . Is this right? Or . . . ?" She fumbled it a little more trying to figure out what she meant by that. "No, I have . . . no idea what that means." She blushed. Was this common knowledge around here? She should have known.
