Yasmin stood her ground, eyeing the foal with what she was trying not to be growing impatience.
"Aludra. Focus!" Stomping a hoof, the pale mare managed to finally get the foal's attention. Her dark purple eyes shifted to her mother as her little ears turned downwards in guilt at not listening to what her mother was telling her. Yasmin sighed, moving to circle her daughter and prod her with her muzzle at the places that were sagging. Upon receiving the poke Aludra would instantly straighten the offending body part.
"The quicker you get this, Aludra, the quicker you can go find your brother," the mare continued to scold, coming back around to stand in front of the darker grey filly. "I know you don't find this interesting, but it is a must. No daughter of mine is going to act like a barn animal."

Aludra let out little squeals at her mother's nose. Some were from surprise, losing sight of Yasmin as the mare circled around out of eyesight. Others were from a ticklish spot being hit. Like that one between her ribs....
Try as the foal might, she couldn't stop the flow of light giggles that erupted from her throat. One back hoof stomped on the ground while the tickle slowly faded. Once gone, she focused on her mother.
Yasmin was standing in front of her, looking down at Aludra with a look of annoyance. Why couldn't she control herself? She wanted to make her mother proud, but these lessons were too difficult. Standing still was not her strength. Less so when someone was tickling her. She had so many of those sensitive parts.
Aludra wasn't sure what to say. She merely hung her head and pulled her ears back in a guilty motion.

Yasmin's ears twitched. She could hear the herd nearby. She hadn't gone very far away from them, wanting a bit of peace with her daughter but not to be dangerously too far in case she got into trouble. Or her son needed her. It would be argued that traveling away from a foal still nursing wasn't the best idea. No matter how close you were to him. To quiet her mind, she often told herself Arch was with his father and she was in hearing distance of yelling. If someone yelled for her to return, she would. These moments with Aludra, however, were too important for her to waste waiting until the foal was older. There was so much to learn. It was best she start it young.
Arch, of course, had his own lessons. Slightly different than Aludra's, Arch was taught the same importance of carrying oneself with dignity and not doing anything to harm the reputation of the family whose bloodlines you carried. She also placed great importance on knowing what to do in all situations, so that he would be prepared to follow the role of leader one day. For it was her ultimate goal to find perfect homes for her children. To rise in status through them. Yasmin would not leave her current herd, but she would still reap the benefits of their successes. To her, rising in status this way for her children was the best possible way she could secure their happiness. To be somebodies. Instead of just a mindless one of many.
For that, Aludra needed to pay attention. The pale mare had heard tell of a desert herd with bachelor sons she planned to send her daughter off to when she was older. With an escort, of course. That desert wasn't kind to the unwary. This she knew well. It was the same desert and oasis she had found herself stuck in. Surely the beauty her daughter would become and her Alcor bloodlines would make her a candidate to become one of the royal family.
Of course she was.
