Ami quietly knocked on Madeline's door.

She was here for her books.

Nothing else.
PostPosted: Tue Sep 18, 2012 11:01 pm

Madeline was buried.

Buried underneath a pile of comic books.

So the knock took a long moment for her to respond to. It was like swimming up to the surface and taking a large breath of air.

And then she tripped over her blankets and fell into the door.

Ami, so help you, you're gonna die tonight.

Pulling open the door with her fingers pinched around her nose, Madeline giggled, "hey, sorry, whats u -- u - u --- "

And then she realized it was Ami.

Cue tears.

"Amiiiiiiii!!" Madeline threw her arms around the girls neck.

AMI YOUR YOUNGER SISTER NEEDS YOU RIGHT NOW.....!

Ami didn't hug back. She didn't feel for you baka. Senpai was not impressed.

"Nice to see you too," she said politely, but the grimace on her face gave away her annoyance. She was working on being nicer to people after almost killing a newbie. It was something she sorely needed.

That didn't mean Ami was going to hug her.

"You should really clean your room," she commented, as though she hadn't just been in the hospital for a week straight. As though she hadn't been maliciously tortured by horsemen. As if she was just returning to normal life, visiting her sister. Maybe a part of her was trying to force normality into the situation.

Maybe she just really didn't want to hug Madeline.

"You're mean," Madeline whined, pulling away and rubbing at her eyes. "There's no shame in hugging people."

Kicking open her door further, she pulled Ami inside and quickly ushered the comic book pile under the bed with one practiced sweep of her foot. "It's been so long, I missed you so much, I tried to visit you in the hospital but - "

She shrugged helplessly, still rubbing at her eyes.

"And my room," She swung an arm around Ami's shoulder, "is perfectly fine the way it is."

No it wasn't.

"So, um," Madeline loosened her grip and glanced at Ami, scratching her cheek. Being tongue-tied usually wasn't a problem of hers, but what did you say to a girl who'd just been maliciously tortured by horsemen and was acting completely normal again? "It's good to have you back. I really, really missed you."

She guessed she could start by piling stupidly cheesy lines onto Ami.

Why the ******** not.

"Stop rubbing your face like that," Ami said disdainfully. It was really unattractive on Maddie's pretty face. Yes, Ami thought she was pretty. Deal with it.

She moved past Maddie to sit on the girl's bed. She wasn't sure if it was an after effect from the horsemen, the hospital, Junpei breaking, or a combination of all three, but lately she'd been so exhausted. Just moving around from place to place made her feel like taking a nap. She wasn't looking forward to what she'd be like on a mission.

Ami shook her head at the idea of Madeline's room being "fine." It was not fine. It was a mess, but Ami didn't comment on it.

Madeline's comment didn't move her expression, but she really was touched. Madeline wouldn't be able to tell, but Ami had a secret sparkle within her over someone missing her. She'd spent the entire two weeks thinking nobody would give a s**t if she was gone- it really did something to your psyche. All she said was a polite, "Thank you," while playing with her nails.

"Hmm." Madeline pulled her hands away from her face, turning to scrutinize her appearance in a tiny, popped open compact mirror on the desk. After fixing her ponytail, she turned back to Ami and beamed, bouncing after her to the bed.

"Of course," She rubbed her hands together and settled in front of her, suddenly not sure where to go or what to do. "Um - I'm sorry I wasn't very useful back then - oh!"

She turned and sashayed over to the desk, bending over and popping open one of the drawers. When she returned to Ami, there was a small pile of books in her hands.

"A lot of yours healed up real well while you were in the hospital," She said, rubbing the books spines fondly, "but I found some old ones somewhere - " She didn't really remember where, "and I thought you might like them so."

She set the small pile down next to Ami and fell backwards onto the bed, curls spilling and legs flopping into the air.

"Books always make people feel better." She commented cheerfully. "And I promise none of them are on how to dissect humans."

Ami just watched as the books piled up, not sure what to do with herself. Someone had been thinking about her. This entire time.

"Thank you," Ami said, equally monotonously. She moved the books beside her, hands instead going up to her ears. Tugging on her ear lobes.

Don't cry.

Dont ******** cry.
PostPosted: Mon Sep 24, 2012 10:08 pm

Madeline looked up at Ami from where she was flat on the bed, reaching up to tug an earlobe too. "You're so cute." She grinned. "I hope you like them."

Madeline. Madeline, don't torture Ami. It's rude.

"Are you okay?" She asked finally, reclaiming her hand and stretching her legs out as far as she could. "I guess thats a stupid question but - your earlobes can't be that impressive."

Madeline, why do you exist.

Ami squeezed the hand she was holding, fighting back the urge to cry. Not in front Madeline. It was like two parents trying not to fight in front of their child. Ami didn't want Madeline to see that.

It didn't stop her from pulling her legs up on the bed and burying her face in her knees, so Madeline couldn't see the conflict on her face. Her hand never left Madeline's though.

"I ... can't tell what's real anymore," she admitted. Stranger things had come from hunters' mouths.

Madeline blinked at Ami, feeling like they were heading down a road where she needed to buck up and be mature and comforting and well.... everything she wasn't.

"Ami," She said quietly, squeezing the girls hand. She lifted herself up and leaned against the other girl, auburn curls spilling out from her bun. "It'll be okay." She said. "I'm real right now, so just..."

She wiggled their hands back and forth.

"That's all that matters right now."

She hoped Ami wouldn't kill her when she wrapped one arm around the girls shoulder.

But who knew. Strangers things had happened in Deus.

Ami, much to everyone's surprise, leaned into Madeline's shoulder. It had been a whirlwind of a month, and she was so broken that leaning into Madeline's arm almost seemed insubstantial. Maybe for once she didn't want to be aloof and stoic, and instead just wanted a friend.

"I just don't know," she said, looking at the ground.

"I just keep waiting for someone to knife me, or for something to explode or-" She sighed, eye glazing over. "I can't even sleep."
PostPosted: Tue Sep 25, 2012 11:23 pm

"Mmm."

Madeline leaned her head on Ami's, squeezing the girls hand again with a small sigh. She wasn't exactly good at handling crying, sad people, but for Ami she would damn well. (Even if it turned out like this.)

"Well, I can knife you if you want but I don't think that will solve our problems." Madeline joked, patting Ami's head.

Aka, I want to help but I don't know how damn it.

Ami frowned at Madeline's poor taste in joke. Shivers ran down her spine as she took the words to heart. Madeline could entirely knife her right now. She'd done so before. Ami would never admit it, but Madeline had been there in her nightmares. She was important.

A silence followed as the closed her eyes, grateful for Madeline's support. After a little while, she pushed off Madeline, feeling like she was burdening the poor girl. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to blubber like a whale."

She looked over at Madeline and said, "I ... have a selfish request."
PostPosted: Tue Sep 25, 2012 11:51 pm

"It's okay," Madeline said instantly with a smile, "it's really fine. Believe me, for all the times I've blubbered to you? You get a few free times with me." Or a lifetime. Ami, your younger sibling loves you, fall into her bosom whenever okay.

"And whales are cute. Did you know --- "

For once in her life, Madeline realized that this was not the time for a terrifyingly morbid scientific fact about the internal organs of whales.

Instead, she glanced at the other when she told her she had a selfish request, raising a brow.

"Oh?"

She bobbed her head. "Hit me."

Not literally though.

As soon as Madeline said "did you know" Ami could feel a very distinct nausea/headache combination coming over her. For once in her goddamn life, Madeline actually spared, and Ami had to take a moment to just ... admire the moment. It was beautiful. Life was beautiful.

Quietly, Ami timidly said, "Could I sleep here tonight? Just tonight, and I promise I'll be gone by the time you wake up." She didn't want to be a burden, anything but that. Ami had a strong complex to not depending on others now.

Except for one night, she didn't want to stick to that complex. She didn't want to be scared shitless- just for one night. Then the nightmares and monsters could come back and do as they pleased.

And Madeline was the only person she could think to share it with.
