"Join the gadgetry club?" A young rookie asks of passerbys going to and from the central commons of the Academy, holding out a flyer from the stack clutched to her chest. Beside her hovers a little robot with a flyer clasped in a miniscule robotic clamp. Rings of light emit from beneath it in little puffs as it hovers, trying to get people to take it's flyer as well.
"It will be most entertaining!" The little droid says in a male voice a little deeper than one would expect from such a cute robot. It's LED display blinks then starts a marquee reading "JOIN THE GADGETRY CLUB" in bold letters.
The tenative smile that had been on Gigabyte's face was starting to fade and she sighed, looking to her little robot. "Gerrard, we've been out here an hour and people pretend we're not here. I think your plan has a fatal flaw we've not taken notice of...."
Undeterred by his creator's pessimism, the little robot flies a little farther from her to try and force a flyer into an oncoming sidekick's hands. "Won't you join the Gadgetry Club?" The tone came off as almost passive aggressive from the little robot, not wanting to give up just yet.

The unexpected was slowly becoming... vaguely expected at this point. Not that that made much sense in retrospect, but it was a concept that allowed the pale rookie to walk with a hint more comfort and ease through the campus. A simple notebook and pencil were clutched at her side as her boots dragged her onward towards the dorms. Her intent was to continue a new costume sketch she'd started fiddling with during one of her classes, maybe even see what of her current clothes she could modify to suiting the design....
Half her attention was happily occupied debating how she'd go about her free time. Fragments of other designs she would love to attempt to put onto paper fickered about as she only somewhat saw the world around her. Her eyes at least managed to take in other students to avoid running into them, even skimming for familiar faces.
Her interest in approaching those she did not recognize was non-existent. She had her general plan for the next few hours. No reason to alter it unless necessary. To this, Black Jack was almost smiling at her incoming activities. Something caught the light in the corner of her eye, and she ignored it in favor of her continued path. Just moved sideways a little to keep from hitting... whatever it was. It was then a piece of paper was shoved into her line of sight, free hand reflexively moving to grab at the flyer.
Blue eyes narrowed in malcontent to the floating... robot. Okay so that was pretty new, she'd give the situation that. She scanned the paper briefly, two breaths from just continuing on her way. The thing's digital voice annoyed her with its tone, but she was... confused.
"There are clubs here..?" This was the first she'd heard of this, to be honest. Looking back to the paper, she felt her brow wrinkle a little. A techie she was not. But she couldn't help but think of Violet's disguise watch as she eyed the robot. Maybe this would be of something of interest to the alien girl..?
Catching sight of another girl holding yet more flyers, the preteen felt her lips twitch a little in a small frown. Pointing to the offending metal object with the paper in her hand, she asked, "These are both yours then?" Her voice was neutral at least. The robot might have annoyed her, but she didn't see a reason to take it out on the girl, assuming she was his... owner? Was that how it worked?

Since the time she enrolled into this academy two years ago, Tabby had sprouted... one inch. How slow! There were many, much more notable changes in Tabby than her height today. Her Nanny had just started allowing her to pick her own clothing, no matter how odd or questionable Tabby's clothing choices were. She was still in her Girl Scout's uniform, composed of a green sash covered in badges, a green plaid skirt, and a pair of Mary Janes with white stockings. However the rest of her looked like a mishmash of merchandise you'd find in a souvenir store such as a visor and an I <3 CAP t-shirt. Her backpack was nice and streamlined, but it was covered in pins with designs ranging from colorful holographic images, to scrolling numbers, to unmoving text messages like I <3 Crantel, to cute cartoon character faces. Five tall figures dressed from head to toe in high tech-gear gear stood around, backs facing her. On top of their heavy equipment, they wore out-of-place bright, tacky button-down shirts with gigantic floral patterns on them, and one of them held a camera-like device with two lenses on it.
Her Mary Janes pitter pattered on the tiles amongst the thuds of heavy, gritty boots as she skipped down the halls, tall figures alert and looking around. It was only one bizarre sight out of many in the daily happenings of Sidekick Academy! Suddenly another set of feet approached from behind the group, another pair of Mary Janes belonging to what appeared to be a fully grown woman in a conservative maid's outfit. Tabby and the five soldiers went about their business and let her get close.
"Shut me off again and you won't be eating dessert tonight!" she shouted, when she finally caught up with Tabby.
"Aww, you know how much ah love you, Nanny Bot," Tabby's eyes sparkled and she sprung up from the ground, as she said with cheer, "An' you 'n ah both know how much you love tah make desserts fer me!"
Nanny Bot's disapproving glare turned into a look of sheer terror when she looked up and saw the view around Tabby, "Good god, you've already got them wearing those absolutely dreadful shirts."
Her eyebrows scrunched up and arms folded on top of her chest. Giving each soldier a menacing glare, she said, "Listen up men, I know you've just started but please, please remember that I'm your boss, got it??"
The men nodded in synch. "Now please remove those cheap and gaudy shirts."
Soon after they began to lift up their shirts, they saw Tabby's puppy pout. Looking at one another other, the masked men seemed to come to a consensus, nodding in agreement. They pulled down their shirts again and continued to wear them, except for one but he swiftly put on his tacky shirt again. Nanny Bot was taken aback, but she regained her composure, with an exasperated sigh of defeat. Tabby giggled, and took her robot maid's arm in hers. "Nanny Bot, they just showed up outta nowhere and started followin' me around! Ah just had ta make them look presentable if they're gunna be around me all day."
"Tabitha, do you even know what they're here for?" The realistic human-looking robot looked down at the pre-teen. Tabby didn't say anything for a few seconds with a blank expression.
"Well?"
"Ah haven't a clue," replied Tabby.
Nanny Bot explained, "Sources tell me you're being targeted, so for the time being, these hired bodyguards will be watching out for any potential threats in order to keep you safe."
"Ah wouldn't bat an eyelash! Have ya seen what ah can do to a croc in the dead o' night?! Happened last night actually. Ah mangled 'em up good; poor thing went cryin' 'ome t' his mommy!" Tabby said with pride, putting a fist to her puffed chest.
Her bodyguards looked at each other and shrugged, as Nanny Bot put her hand to her face. Continuing to walk down the halls, Tabby noticed a girl passing out flyers. She felt Nanny Bot put a hand on her shoulder. Nanny always did this to remind Tabby to have manners. Nanny Bot and the bodyguards gave her some distance as she ran up to the girl with large swirly glasses.
She asked with great enthusiasm, "Can ah have a flyer??"
Curious to see everything, Tabby just couldn't resist. Maybe the flyers were for a new chain restaurant that just opened, or a new movie theatre, or the opening of a park! Behind the girl with glasses was a curious scene. There was a tiny floating robot puffing out lights and shoving one of the flyers at...
a girl. Dressed elegantly in black and lace, and behind the mask on her face, robin egg blue eyes.
For a few seconds, Tabby forgot to breathe, and her stomach hurt, and she forgot where she was or what she was doing, and she felt a strong urge to get to know the blue-eyed girl in black. She didn't know what it meant.
"There are clubs here...?"
Tabby vaguely heard and barely registered. She thought about how they would be fantastic friends, exploring floating islands, wrestling with giant snakes, and camping out in the secluded woods together; that is, if she wanted to...
"These are both yours then?"
Realizing she had been daydreaming, Tabby shook her head, trying to figure out what was going on. Did she hear clubs?? What was she asking?? Maybe the blue-eyed girl dressed in black was interested in joining this club..?!
"Ah'd love to join this club!" Starry-eyed Tabby blurted out at the swirly-glasses-eyed girl in front of her. "In fact, ah'm all about what this club is about; so lemme join!"
She pointed directly at the girl in black, looked directly into her blue eyes(or at least she tried to), and yelled, "An' ah want chu to be in this club, too!"
She added on, "If you want to..!" Because what if she didn't want to?? The hallways sure are warm today...
