(( If you have unfinished business you may take it to PRP's. Please consider any purchases to be complete to your character's satisfaction with appropriate discounts. Thanks!))

They hadn't been able to do much, but they had done something. And that, really, was the point.

As Gathers went it was frankly quite crude; the time and resources of the weeks since the uprising had been put into achieving a semblance of Trine's normal activities. But now, with a little progress made, the compressed populations of three Weyrs chafing against each other for elbow room and an unstable world watching, a day of rest, remembrance and renewal seemed the least destructive thing to give. The dead and their sacrifice had to be honored. The living and their hard work had to be celebrated. There would be a day of festival to send a message: we are still here. We are not beaten. We have the strength to rebuild and rejoice.

Temporary tables and benches had been cobbled together from building materials by the lakeshore, some listing slightly where grass gave way to soft sand. Colorful bunting from the last Gather had escaped destruction and was strung between torches - no more than oil-soaked rags wound around long spars of rough-hewn wood - that would be lit as the day went down to dusk. Nets strung with small floats sectioned off a portion of one of Trine's three lakes, trapping silver fish in the shallows close to shore.

Some pedlars and craftspeople from tithing holds had ventured forth, driven by enterprise, curiosity, or - now that the dust had settled - individual shows of solidarity, and had spread their wares across boards propped across crates or wandered, hawking goods in loud voices. And at least one blue-clad figure played to the crowd, for the tenor of the Weyr was of sure interest to the Harpers.

All the same problems would be there tomorrow. But today, here and now, they were alive.

OOC Info
While it sounds like the tagline for some nifty new product, 'three Weyrs in one' has been a tough situation for all involved. Before things get too heated, let's blow off some steam with a Gather! Just don't expect too much in the bubble pie department for this one.

This event is open to PCs of the Resistance faction only.

This is an event that will run from now through September 30th. While the goal is some good old IC interaction, we've got some games and NPCs to spice things up! Here's a rough schedule of what the Weyr has on offer:

Crafter Stalls: All day | September 16-30 RL
While it may be a bit crates-and-boards in the presentation department, there's a decent selection of goods on offer. See post #2 for details.

Wrestling Matches: 11AM - 1PM IC | September 18-22 RL
Looking to show off your strength to those strangers from elseweyr or just have a good grapple on the sand? Pit your strength and dexterity against your opponent in the ring here! While shirts are optional, pants are not.
Signups: September 16-17 in this thread. See post #3 for details.

Barehanded Fish-Catching: 3PM - 4PM IC | September 24-28 RL
See those fish in that netted area just off the lakeshore? They could just leave them to the fishercraft to catch, but even they need a day off and a good laugh once and a while! Roll up your trousers and wade on out - it's literally dinner and a show.
Signups: September 23 in this thread. See post #4 for details.

Bonfire and Dancing: 5PM - whenever everyone leaves! IC | September 29-30 RL
As the sun goes down and night falls, a big driftwood bonfire marks the end of the Gather. Visit the crafters before they pack up, feast on fresh fish, and maybe find a special someone for a dance.

Crafter Stalls

Set on the outskirts of the Gather, the crafter stalls form a loose half-ring around the open area of mixed grass and sand with a few free-standing outliers dotted here and there. The crafters have a wide array of wares (and prices.) Some are willing to haggle, but several are aware that the overcrowding and recent upheavals have put goods and services in demand, and are hoping to make a profit.

OOC Info
Start Your Engines Marks

Your character starts the gather with a certain number of marks. For simplicity's sake, this is based on rank. Mark denominations are 1/32, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 5,10, and 100. 1 mark is equal to about $20 USD, while 100 marks is about $2000 USD.

Weyrbrat - 1 Mark
Candidate/Apprentice - 2 Marks
Weyrling - 3 Marks
Rider/Journeyman - 5 Marks
Search/Courier/Watch - 6 Marks
Warden/Craft Master/Weyrlingmaster - 7 Marks
Wingsecond - 8 Marks
Wingleader/Jr. Weyrwoman - 10 Marks
Weyrleader/Master Craftsman - 15 Marks

Keep track of your funds during the Gather!

Don't You Want To Haggle?

Crafters may be willing to lower their prices for an adept bargainer. To try to score a better deal, roll 1 20-sided die:

1-2: Well done! The crafter must have really taken a shine to you - they offer the item for half its listed price.
3-8: Not a bad bargain at all - they're willing to go as low as three-quarters of the item's listed price.
9-12: Maybe you gave them a funny look or something. They only knock one-fourth mark off. (For items less than one mark, only one-eighth mark is deducted.)
13-18: They stand firm. Listed price or nothing at all.
19-20: That little? For this workmanship? Your offer insults their craft - they won't sell.

You may make one haggling attempt per item.

Wrestling Matches

Down on the lakeshore where the sand is soft (but tropically hot,) large rings have been drawn for wrestlers to compete in. A burly Smithcrafter with his shirt around his waist is taking entries, though he looks like he should be one of the contestants. That he's sitting in a chair with one leg stretched out in a cast probably has something to do with it.

IC Rules

Each match shall be between two contestants. Two shall be the number of thy counting. Thou shalt not count to three, nor four. Five is right out.
The first person to place a body part outside of the ring or scuff the line is considered the loser.
No weapons.
No fisticuffs.
No biting.
Please return all teeth to their proper owners.

OOC Info

How to Sign Up

We're doing this IC interaction style! Make a post directing your character at yon smith in yonder chair and quote Tinnunculus in it so she sees. You can leave it open-ended if you want some NPC interaction or just assume the following: he rumbles, has you put your name down on a list, and gives you a number.

How the Event Works

Each match consists of a number of rounds, which is just a fancy term for a versus dice roll. For each round, each player rolls 1 4-sided die and the higher roll wins a point. In the event of a tie, the characters are considered deadlocked for that round. To your roll you may add the following modifiers:

+1 if your character is particularly large, bulky, robust, built like a brick house
+1 if your character is particularly strong, well-muscled, buff
-1 if your character is slight, svelte, slim, dainty, delicate..
-1 if your character is particularly weak, doesn't do a lot of exercise or physical labor, etc.

When one character reaches two points, they've managed to move their opponent outside the ring (by however much) and win the match.

That's it!

Entrants

1 - Hekate
2 - Carltis
3 - Siata
4 - Z'fer

First prize is 3 IC marks for use at the crafter stalls (or to be saved, your character's choice!)

A Shady Character

What is this..?
PostPosted: Sun Sep 16, 2012 5:40 pm

Devith was in high spirits today and it showed in the extra spring in his step and how he walked wings held half mantled just enough to catch the sun. Hekate had oiled and cleaned his hide until it gleamed and shone like glistening armor in the light and it was clear the silver was enjoying the many admiring glances he was getting. Look how they stare Mine. Are we not perfection incarnate? Devith rumbled to his rider his voice rich with amusement in her mind as he paused posing regally to half turn to glance back at her. Chuckling Hekate picked up her pace coming to stand alongside Devith, resting a light hand on her dragons neck as she glanced around. Indeed there were quite a few wide eyes watching them. Well who could hope to compete. She replied a smile on her lips as she smoothed out her tunic with her other hand. She had worn a light whispy gray tunic with silver edging on the sleeves, the shoulders decorated with her weyrling knits, all over a pair of dark brown breeches. The two indeed made a rather striking pair, Hekate had done her now shoulder length red hair up into a bun, Prince having wrapping himself around it, peaking his head over the edge like a great silver hair piece and curled around her neck ever watchful sat Baron, her little brown. The flight of greens had taken to flittering this place and that in their excitement only coming back every so often to insist on being fed or to give her some new delighted snippit of images they had seen.

Oh? What is this Mine? Devith asked pausing as he noticed the circles laid out in the sand tugging his rider along to investigate. For a moment Hekate wasn't sure if she was lucky or not that Devith this time around was still small enough to enjoy the gather with her and be awake.

Spotting the large burly smithcraft sitting not a few steps away from said circles Hekate arched and eyebrow grinning at her companion. "It appears to be a contest Devith." She answered, the silver looking up from his investigation to prowl regally over to the smithcrafter eyeing him with interest tail twitching.

A contest? Shall we enter Mine? Devith crooned glancing between the Smithcrafter and Hekate as the red haired woman shook her head. "I don't think they allow dragons love." She explained giving the man a roguish smile even as Devith folded his wings eyes whirling clearly disappointed. Reaching a hand out she stroked her companion's eyeridges.

But I wanted to win. He grumbled eyes flashing, but was somewhat soothed by his rider's petting. "How about I enter for the both of us hmm?" She asked amused as the silver paused seeming to think the situation over.

That would be sufficient. Devith replied drawing himself back up with pride and puffing his little chest out. Turning to the Smithcrafter she gave him a nod. "The name is Hekate I'd like to sign up for the wrestling contest." She spoke reminding herself that this was after all in the name of fun.

The smith looked up. Then down. Then up again, as if to make sure there wasn't any more of the 5'4" weyrling hidden away somewhere. The edge of his mouth curled up into his beard. "Sure 'bout that, little lady?" he rumbled.
PostPosted: Sun Sep 16, 2012 6:37 pm

Tinnunculus

"Yes I'm sure about it." Hekate replied meeting the smith's grin with a bright one of her own. "Sides~" She added patting the smith's shoulder. "It'll give the big men like yourself something to chuckle over if I get my tail tossed out of the ring. Just don't worry too much." She replied giving him a jaunty wink and a rather roguish grin. "I've got a few tricks up my sleeve, figuratively of course. Can't go about cheating now could I? Wouldn't look good." Hekate said tugging on her short tunic's sleeve to show a bare tanned arm with a chuckle.

You will do more then get tossed from the ring. You will win. I have confidence. Devith rumbled confidently casting his rider a rather adoring glance as he settled himself down in the sand next to the Smith's chair.

"You wouldn't mind if my dragon waited here with you during the contest? I promise he'll stay out of trouble. Won't you Devith?" Hekate asked eyeing her dragon with a smile as he let out a snort of amusement giving her a glance as if to say 'Me? Misbehave?'

I will conduct myself suitably. You need not worry Mine. He replied preening lazily.

"He promises to behave." She added deciding that was as close to a yes as one would get out of the silver.

Z'fer wasn't sure how he felt about the Gather. He understood the reasoning behind it but it felt like it was too soon. It helped that the slapdash construction and tropical location looked and felt nothing like the last gather that changed their lives. Z'fer could only hope that nothing disastrous would happen this time around.

He couldn't fault the vendors for living it up though. With refugees from two weyrs, there were hundreds of people who suddenly lacked personal posessions. They would walk away with full pockets tonight. He himself kept an eye out for new leathers. Cal's straps were still ok but his own gear had suffered greatly for being so overworn. He also needed new gloves as Thread had ate through his last pair, leaving a long if shallow scar on his forearm.

The silver hide was impossible to miss, shining with a thick coat of oil as it usually did. ~ I wonder where she finds all that oil... ~ Z'fer felt a mental snort from Calanoth in the back of his mind, bringing a grin to his face.

~ No hide goes unattended mine. Let the hatchling have his fun. ~

Z'fer's eyes narrowed as he drew closer, spotting Devith's rider in conversation with an overly large smith. ~Depends upon what kind of fun she has in mind.~ Z'fer added a sly smile to his countenance and strode (read: stalked) up behind the red head, sliding a firm hand around her waist. "So. Flirting with Smiths now are we?" He ran an appraising eye over the smith, taking note of the many's burly appearance and the cast on his leg. Not really what he expected from Hekate but then he hadn't been able to place a 'taste' for her yet.
PostPosted: Sun Sep 16, 2012 7:29 pm

Even with the brief flash of Z'fer's face through Prince's eyes Hekate still gave a little jump when she felt Z'fer's arm circle around her waist pulling the young weyrling back against a toned chest. Glancing up at him she fought down a flush.

Mine. It seems the bronze two-legger is here. Devith commented eyeing Z'fer in lazy displeasure from where he had stretched himself out on the sand knowing Cal would keep his rider in line at least and if not Devith would.

Yes I can see that Devith. Hekate mentally replied somewhat amused at her dragon's mild annoyance.

"Why Z'fer!? Do I detect a touch of jealousy?" She asked lips quirked in a dark sultry little grin as she tilted her head back to look up at him. "I'll have you know I was simply signing up for this good man's contest. It seems there's a lack of contestants and I wanted to help fill the list like any good weyrfolk would." Hekate replied her eyes dancing with amusement, both of them knowing quite well that she was anything, but a 'good weyrfolk.' Not that the Smith had to know that, but in this case Hekate was genuinely doing her best to behave. . .or was at least until Z'fer showed up.

F'ren smiled a Gather was JUST what they needed. They needed something good to take away the gloom that had seemed to penetrate everywhere. F'ren was generally a good natured person and so much gloom, for a prolonged time was depressing, even to him who could get pretty dark at times. Thankfully they'd been unhurt during the recent Threadfall and he was relieved about that, no more scars on his beloved Toulonth. His own wounds didn't bother him nearly as much as any hurt to his Dragon, it was almost more than he could bear sometimes.

Toulonth crooned at him and nudged him with her head. "I am unhurt, you are unhurt, enjoy yourself Mine, you deserve it" she said, her tone light and her eyes green/blue in amusement.

F'ren had to chuckle as he was nearly pushed off his feet by his Dragon, he batted at her nose playfully. "Alright alright... that means you too you know, we get a day off... of sorts" he said to her, kissing her nose as she drew her head up to see who was in the large clear area for the Dragons. He laughed and gave her eyeridges a rub when she brought her head back down and then he moved off "Love you Toulonth"

"I love you too Mine, have fun" she said, her tone full of happiness and love.

F'ren moved between the stalls, Grinning at the odd handsome man, or pretty lady. Flattering but those that knew him just waved him off with a laugh, F'ren could be sweet but a lot of the time he was insincere, still, it was hard to be angry with a man that was fawning over you, even if it was only for a few seconds. It was then that F'ren spotted the big rings out on the sand and he was intensely curious. With flits, one silver, one crimson, perched on a shoulder each, he walked over to the smithcrafter with a broad grin "Ho there, What's all the rings about then?" he asked the man, smiling, curious.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A loud booming bugle .. that would have echoed were they not in such an open area... came from the throat of the huge Brown Asoth, he flashed his wings as he backwinged to land, kicking up sand and whatever else in the backdraft. "Mine! MINE!.. look there are things... fluttering things ... oooh, see this is why it is good to have come Mine!... there are many people that will be looking at me... SEE there are some now!" Bugled Asoth proudly, eyes whirring happily as some of the humans stared at him.
M'lan laughed, he couldn't help but pick up on his Dragon's infectious good mood. Giving Asoth a scratch on his eyeridges and a warning to behave he moved away from where he dragon had deposited him. He didn't spend much time among the stalls, he'd left his flits behind at his quarters, to watch over his things, to warn him if anyone they didn't know ventured in or else he might have spent more time looking at things, since they were insanely curious.
He did however notice the large rings, and, with urging from Asoth.. of course... because M'lan should be out where he could be paid attention to... He ventured over, hovering behind a Greenrider..F'ren he thought his name was, that was asking the Smithcrafter what it was all about, He listened in so that the man didn't have to explain twice.
Despite being at Trine for some time now, Kindra wasn't used to the heat and not for the first time she was immensely grateful to whoever had given her some lovely Dresses suitable for Trine's climate. It was long but cool, billowy and slightly revealing. Perhaps not the best outfit for a Weyrwoman but for today at least, she was going to be just another rider.... to forget the troubles they had for now and just enjoy the Gather like any other she'd been to ... before Impressing Suuanth... even before her mother had gotten sick. At the thought of her parents Kindra felt an ache in her chest but she fought back tears, she'd not been able to contact them to tell them she, and Suunath were ok. She closed her eyes for a moment, leaning against her Dragon's neck in front of her, they hadn't come far but she never forgot to wear her riding straps, at least they hadn't gone Between, had just leisurely flown side by side with N'mol and Tyeth to get to the Gather area. They could have easily walked but both Suunath and N'mol still didn't want her doing too much with her leg, she was able to walk yes but that leg tired easily.
She got up, revelling in the love and support of her dragon and looked over at N'mol with a smile "Let's go hmm?" she said, taking a deep breath as she untied herself from her dragon and used the Queen's leg as a step down to reach the ground without the dress being lifted up. Free day as it was, it wouldn't do to expose her rear end at all. Both she and Suunath laughed, the Golden dragon's chest rumbling her way of laughing. The gold not really needing to say anything, they'd already said what was needed back in the weyr they shared with Narisa and Cepheith. She waited for N'mol to join her before heading off, today... well today was about relaxing and enjoying what good they could find in the aftermath. It may not be their home but .. a Gather was a gather and the feeling and ... feelings of fun... could be infectious.
Tinnunculus
Today Carltis was wearing a shirt with the sleeves ripped off, loose black britches, no shoes and an eyepatch; he felt like a complete reprobate and was enjoying it very much. The eyepatch was not in fact necessary; he was only wearing it to get a laugh out of Rochelle whenever he managed to find her. Maybe she was with Aleck; another person he was on the hopeful monocular lookout for.
In the meantime he sauntered through the rings set up for wrestling until he spotted somebody with a list; he homed in. "Hey, are you in charge here?" he asked of the smith, his Harper refined voice cracking out like a whip. "Sign me up for a match would you? Could do with stretching my muscles." He was still a little battered and achy from the long struggle at Malvren, and the two weeks of deprivation had stripped away some of his bulk but he was up for trying his luck nevertheless.
He hoped Rochelle turned up to watch. Well, provided he won of course; he didn't especially want to embarrass himself in front of her.
Tinnunculus
[Siata]
Siata had no real direction on where she ambled around the Gather. So many people, riders and Weyrfolk, most of them she didn't recognize. Siask slept back in their little home and the woman had somehow procured herself a wide brimmed hat perfect for keeping the shade from her eyes in this ungodly sunlight. Just because she liked to lounge in the sun and bask like a feline didn't mean she wanted sun in her eyes. They'd become used to the dusk and the dawn; it always took her some time for her eyes to adjust to the light, longer than it used to.
But - wrestling. What better way to show off her not-quite-feminine prowess than wrestling? She even recognized a young man there, dressed in quite the imposing outfit. She herself had shorts on that just covered her butt, leather sandals and a loose, short sleeved shirt. She did not look so much a badass as she did an overly muscular beach bum. Didn't stop her from giving the young man a firm slap on the back in greeting.
"Hey! There you are, I've been looking for you. Sighing up? Fantastic - good sir, I would like to sign up for this event as well! Must show the ladies my strength and wits and underwear," she grinned, a bright, wide crooked grin.
[Rochelle]
She dawdled around the crafter stalls, quiet and subdued for the usually bouncing Glasscrafter. She'd not come across enough to get her own tools and bits yet, still new and working at the kindness of others instead her own hard-earned blowtorch and tools, her own collections of glass. She'd have her own stall if they were in Malvern, pieces of things she made. And here, now, she looked for any Crafters that made jewelry - the wire and metal sort, someone to teach her how to make her own with the craft. If Rocham had been a gemcrafter, she'd know. Now she wanted to make jewelry outside of earrings and piercings - flasks and lenses and the rest of the practical things were all well and good, but they weren't fun.
Beyond the Crafting stalls, she spotted a familiar pair of broad shoulders. They were near to the same height and musculature, same legs and arms and - a**, seriously, if not for the fact Siata had stated when they left Malvern that she'd been born at Trine, she'd suspect they had the same parents. At least one.
It meant, of course, she had to flounce up and pop next to Carltis, the other side of him. "What're we doing?"
The slap on his back startled him, but the familiar voice that came along with it stopped him lashing out. "Siata," Carltis scowled, "don't creep up on me like that! What did you want me for, and yes, I am; thought I'd give it a go." He was... not quite sure about Siata, or more accurately how to act around her. She knew more about him than he felt comfortable with, and though she seemed like the decent sort who wouldn't use it against him it still bothered him that she knew he was... mushy. She'd been a great comrade though, and she was good humored and.... Well it was just difficult, that was all.
Before his brain could ramble and worry around that point any more another familiar voice caught his attention; he turned and looked down at Rochelle with an almost smile. "Oh, it's you; hullo Roche. Siata and I are signing up to wrestle, though not necessarily together. Are you going to watch us flex our muscles?" On that last sentence he winked, although given he only had one visible eye perhaps technically it was a blink.
