I hope this doesn't sound silly or rude, but I have a question for the English posters out there. Do any of you have accents like the RD characters? What can you tell me about the areas the different accents come from? I absolutely love the way they all sound, and how they all sound different. I've just been curious about regions are represented by all of them. smile

Lister is from Liverpool, and Rimmer... hmmm... his is a little difficult to pin point. I'd say Kent, or posh London, definately not Cockney like one of my friends thought... sweatdrop xd
I have a weird accent - a strange Scottish-Kentish-Peckham-ish mix... if I could record myself, I'd let you all hear my weird way of talking, but I can't... sweatdrop I've got a bit of a talent for doing accents though - I can do Liverpudlian pretty well... 3nodding

Lister is a Liverpudlian!! hehe! Rimmer is more posh, so I'd say any of the wealthy areas; a bit of London, Sussex, Kent. I'm from Essex, so I always get called common *sighs*. But I'd rather be common than stuck up my own arse lol.

Pardon my rudeness, but how the hell could Rimmer be mistaken for having a Cockney accent? xd
I wish I lived in England... le sigh.

Keldan Pardon my rudeness, but how the hell could Rimmer be mistaken for having a Cockney accent? xd I wish I lived in England... le sigh. Only Cloister or Almighty Bob could answer that one... and even then, I'm pretty sure they'd have a hard time of it! Meh, it's the whole "grass is greener" thing... I for one wish I lived in New Zealand, Australia or New York... it'd get me out from underneath this government for one thing... ninja BUT, that's for journal rants, not here! whee

How about Holly or Kochanski? I know Cat is American, and isn't Kryten supposed to be Canadian? That's kind of a funny idea where I live, because Windsor is right across the river from Detroit, and I don't hear any difference between the way we talk and the way they talk. In Newfoundland the people sound almost Irish, which is very charming to listen to. Any idea what area of Canada Kryten's accent hails from?

Holly I'm unsure of... Kochanski - well, the original version of Kochanski was Scottish (AS SHE SHOULD BE! RAWR!!!) and the Series 7/8 version was from London, probably North... that or somewhere in Kent. 3nodding
Kryten's accent? No idea... I find it difficult to tell the difference between American and Candian accents, lol! Though to an American or Canadian person, that comment would probably sound much like it would if they were to say they couldn't tell the difference between Northern Irish and Southern Irish accents... 3nodding

Precisely, Jewel. I certianly can't tell between Northern Irish and Southern Irish. xd Although with the difference between American and Canadian, it's not so much a difference between accents as between phrases and tempo, I think. Like, Canadians famously say "Eh" a lot, right? And Americans have all sorts of different accents... I think Cat is supposed to be a sort of mix between a stereotypical New Yorker or someone from the L.A. area, maybe... but I dunno for sure.

Lol, I think I don't have an accent - I probably do to anyone living anywhere else though >.< If anything I speak like Rimmer more than anyone else...I have that feeling again that he doesn't have an accent...so it figures I would be like him right? confused

Cleocatra Osiris I think that the later Kochanski probably is an Essex girl. She seems more like a Kent/high class London person to me. She must be rich - she was educated at a private Scottish school; only the posh people tend send their kids to a Scottish boarding school if they live in the south of England.
