Anthony Darrow had just finished walking his corgi, Dogby, home from work for the day. He had the same routine whenever he closed the library (which was most of the time), and that was to bring Dogby to work and walk her home for some exercise and to make himself feel a bit better about walking at night.
Not that she was the most intimidating dog someone could be walking with, but still. He was a man that walked with a cane and made a good target for all kinds of trouble. The dog made him feel a little less like a walking bullseye.
He did not fear much these days, though, considering he could always just power up and handle himself. He let Dogby into the house, put down her food and water for the night, checked the mail and then left to start his second job.
Nightly patrol.
He powered up a few streets down, and walked back the way he had come, back to the library, to start his usual route. So he was a creature of habit? It had not failed him too badly, not yet, and it made him feel like he was keeping this little section of the city safe. Like he was Batman, and this little area was his personal Gotham.

It wasn't every day that the cat sensed this sort of energy nearby. It was not an eternal senshi, but it was similar in concentration.
Having just secured herself a small baggy of partially eaten chips from a local dumpster (it was AMAZING how much people would throw away), the feline was trotting along the sidewalk with the corner of the plastic bag in her mouth. Her movements were awkwardly noisy, since she had a little bell chiming in with her movements, and the bag of chips were crinkling something fierce.
Eventually, amidst her crinkling and jingling down the sidewalk she did manage to see the cause of the energy. A man in a full suit of armor. Very classy and definitely not a senshi. The manx wanted to stop and say "hi," but she wasn't willing to relinquish her bag of chips.
So instead she ended up making a loud, yet very muffled sounding cat noise. Hopefully she'd get some attention.

Camelot was glad he had put Dogby in the house, as he was not quite sure how the dog would have reacted to seeing the small cat trotting along. Dogby certainly would have wanted the chips it was carrying, that much was very true. But whether a chase or a sad whining session would have broken out, Camelot wasn't sure.
Well, actually, he was kind of sure it would have been the latter.
He smiled at the cat, though, feeling friendly enough toward small, harmless looking animals to risk drawing closer.
"Hello there," he said, stooping. He saw that it was no ordinary cat, and smiled. Now it wasn't quite so awkward that he was talking to it: since he knew that they could talk back. This one couldn't though, as it seemed she had found a prize that would not be lost. "Having a late night snack?"
He chuckled. There was something painfully adorable about small animals carrying things in their mouths. Especially things that seemed too big for them. Whenever Dogby picked up one of the pillows from the sofa and tried to run off with it Tony could usually only laugh.
Then panic and try to save the pillow before Dogby murdered it. They were the only things the corgi ever showed aggression towards. No one could yet place the source of this anger toward pillows.

The cat seemed reluctant to set her prize down on the ground so she could speak, but she did set it down so she could mention something.
"...I only just found it, so I haven't had any yet! But SOON!"
The manx didn't seem to hesitate by any means, but it had everything to do with the fact she knew people who gave off energy signals rarely were surprised by the presence of talking cats.
With a paw, she poked at the plastic bag she had been toting about. "This is what we consider a lucky catch when raiding for food. So what about you? Obviously you aren't snacking, so I am guessing you are... patrolling?" She tilted her head to one side, seemingly curious as she inspected the man before her.
"...I would like to believe you have a name. Mine is *********>

Camelot smiled, though the idea of digging around for food was not pleasing to him. Of course, he was not a cat and thus could not understand the allure of eating someone elses discarded food, but if they were anything like Dogby then it was probably their favorite thing to do, ever.
Dogby was a dog, true enough, but he felt she was not much different from a very hungry cat on a good day.
Camelot smiled, stooping leisurely and offering his hand. It was a peace gesture with most animals, he found, though he was really just asking silently for permission to pet her.
"My name is Camelot, knight of Earth. It's nice to meet you, *********! You seem like a very nice cat. Though, I always worry about you little guys, out on your own. Doesn't the Negaverse hunt you?"
He imagined they would make good targets: they were the ones that awakened the senshi or powered them up. He supposed they were harder to find when they wanted to be, which was a very good thing, but the Negaverse always found a way.
And Camelot couldn't help but worry.

When a hand crept closer, the feline easily filled the gap, meandering in and leaning up and into the hand so that he could pet her. She was never the sort to turn down attention. Especially in the form of petting.
Camelot, as he had been introduced, mentioned the Negaverse and his own concerns. The cat seemed at ease with the subject and let out a small airy laugh. "I would like to think I am a nice cat... but you know... I don't think I'm supposed to judge myself with such a label. You will have to tell me later if I pass the 'nice' test!"
After that commentary which was more meant to calm any nerves from her new found knight companion, she then addressed his legitimate concern. "The Negaverse hunts us like they hunt the senshi... though we are a lot more difficult to locate. I mean, we are in this big city... and a cat is such a small thing. Needle in a hay stack and all." She paused and looked up to him with one eye closed. "Well, that and... when there are folks like you that you can sense a few blocks away... well... it is definitely easier to find the knights and senshi. Only way a Negaverse agent could get me is if they caught visual confirmation of me... and to keep locked on for the chase."

Camelot smiled and ran his hand over her fur, looking like a child a quarter of his age might in the same situation. He was a sucker for animals, especially now after owning Dogby, and he just wanted to cuddle everything fluffy that he saw at this point.
He was turning into a big wuss.
"I'm sure you'll pass with flying colors," he chuckled, shaking his head. He was still worried, though, even with her efforts to make him relax. He was stooped and watching her with interest, at least, and he had a small smile on his face though it wavered a bit as she explained.
"That's probably true. We are walking billboards. Well, I'm glad you're difficult to catch, at least. I'd hate for anything to happen to any of you." Of course, he felt that of literally everyone fighting in the war, in a general sense. There were always exceptions, of course.
"In any case, if ever you need the service of a knight, I am at your disposal. billboards can be good to have around."

Oh, purr purr purr, that felt nice. The manx rather easily moved against his hands, repositioning his fingers every so often to hit the perfect spots. She let out a rather content rumble from deep in her chest.
She chuckled slightly at his words, but it was simply meant as a friendly sound more than anything. "That is good to know, Camelot. I would hate to think that you'd want a cat to be captured by Chaos... though that would probably only mean that some sort of cat had crossed you in the past... which would suck!" Any guardian that was worth their keep wouldn't allow themselves to get caught. It was a harsh criticism to any of her fallen comrades who had been stolen away by the Negaverse, but truth and pity were two completely separate lines. One could tell the truth and could pity someone, despite the truths mentioned.
The mention of billboards being good at things caused her to perk up slightly. "Hmmm... let's see here... I think I know what a billboard can do for me..."
There was a pause before she set a paw upon her plastic bag, once more making a crinkling sound.
"...Can you pull out my chips so I don't have to go digging? I am feeling awfully peckish and all. I'd greatly appreciate it!" She tilted her head and let out a nearly cooing mew-sound.
Yes, she knew how to use her feline form very effectively.

Camelot liked the way cats could purr. He wished Dogby knew how, as if being told she was happy would make it that much more adorable. She did make her own little sounds when he was petting her or got a particularly good spot behind her ear, but it wasn't the same.
Cats seemed to say thank you. Even the ones that didn't talk.
He watched her with interest, thinking she was going to ask him for some help with senshi she knew, or in keeping her safe.Instead, he was presented with a much more pressing issue that was, thankfully, easily solved.
"Oh, I can do that," he laughed, moving to get the food for her. She seemed to be very interested in it, and he would feel like a terrible person if he, with thumbs, did not help her. "There you are. Looks like a nice dinner," he laughed.

With her chips scattered about so thoughtfully, the Mauvian soon enough found herself scampering to the first of many chips to nibble on. She stood there and crunched thoughtfully along the edges and proceeded to gnaw her way through until one chip had been entirely consumed.
Licking a bit of salt off her maw, she sat her rump down and looked to the self-proclaimed billboard.
"So... say I do need your assistance... might I ask how I would contact you, Camelot? I mean, I know how to contact senshi... but knights... as you can imagine... are not my specialty!"

Camelot watched her, a stupid smile on his face. Dogby would be jealous of her eating skills, as he imagined she could taste a lot more of her precious food than Dogby actually did. The corgi tended to swallow things whole or with very little chewing.
Speed was her thing.
Then to ask for more.
He looked thoughtful at her question, though, tilting his head. No one asked him that before. Maybe because they never really wanted to contact him when he made his promises of service. He never really thought of it that way.
He just assumed they knew where to find him.
"I usually patrol from the library and the area around it," he said, "but if you can't come looking for me I'm not actually certain how you might be able to contact me. I have my ring, but I don't know if you can send me messages through it."

So he really didn't have an easy way to contact him. That was a pity. She stood herself back up and scampered to the next chip, making relatively quick work of it before looking back to him. She didn't let her disappointment show.
"So I guess that means I will just need to hang around the library and try to sense a knight's overwhelming energy?" Even just offering such as an option seemed pretty impractical, but what could she do?
In an optimistic tone, she simply replied to her own words "Okay!" Once more she moved onto another chip and proceeded to gnaw through it.
"Mmmmmm... B-B-Q!"

LizzyMoo (sorry, missed this tag =[ ) Camelot chuckled and watched her, nodding his head.
"I guess that is the best method," he laughed. He reached to pat her on the head, scratching her ears lightly, before he stood up. He smiled and decided he was very much a fan of small animals.
This meeting made him want to do a couple of things. Not just meet and try and protect guardian cats, though that was high on the list. He also just wanted to go home and pet his Corgi.
And maybe get a bag of chips.
"I'll see you again, I hope," he said, with a bow. Just because he was respectful and that was the kind of thing a knight like him did. "Enjoy your chips!"

Even with food in her mouth, she leaned into the momentary scratching behind her ears before the knight's hand pulled away.
Apparently Camelot was leaving her. She tilted her head, as if contemplating the words 'I hope.' However, she didn't let such a curious look linger too long. "You'll see me again, Camelot, and thank you for your assistance!"
With that, she went back to her feast. Those chips weren't going to eat themselves!
