Bath Saftey...for the Cat and Humans benefit

Never dunk your cat. He wouldnt appreciate it in the slightest. Here on some saftey tips to keep both you and the kitty safe.

I would recomend a bathtub. With the door closed. It prevents the cat from escaping and theres more room to do it than the sink. Place a plastic bath mat on the bottom of the tub to give your kitty somthing to grip into. DO NOT run the water. Keep a plastic cup handy to help rinse the kitty.

Make sure the water is lukewarm. Too hot, you scald the kitty (whose paw paws are VERY sensetive!). Too cold, you could cause hypothermia.

Put cotton balls gently in the kitties ears to avoid water getting in there. Never immerse the cats face in water.

Dry the kitty down with towels (have a few handy!) before releasing him to do his own grooming session. We can only do so much what they can accomplish in a mere hour.

Shampoo

Never use human shampoo on a feline. Also be weary of flea shampoos. Some have toxins in them that can actually poision your cat and ruin the fur. gonk

Dawn's Dish Soap does wonders for cats (and dogs!) and is safe to use. Also use cat marketed shampoos. Never use a dog shampoo on a cat.

Make sure to rinse whatever you use throughly from the fur and to never get your cats face wet. If there is alot of fleas, get the body and then gently brush the cats facial area with a flea comb.

When to Bathe the Kitty

There may never be a time in your kitty's life where it is nessesary to bathe him. Theyre pretty good about doing the grooming bit themselves but sometimes they need a little helping hand. smile

When to Bathe Your Cat

~Fleas
~Gunk in the fur (rubbing alcohol works wonders on some stick)
~Sick Kitty
~Geriatric Cat
~Kitten who doesnt have the hang of it
~Cats with Poo Butt (attaches to the butt fluff)

WARNING: IF YOUR CAT HAS MATS, DO NOT GIVE HIM A BATH. A WET MAT BECOMES IMPOSSIBLE TO WORK OUT AND YOU WILL HAVE TO SHAVE YOUR CAT

Carl and Guildford love to take baths.
I find that using dawn soap with some tea tree oil (only 1/4 a tea spoon per large bottle of soap) helps them not only stay clean and smell fresh but helps to eliminate ticks( for those kitties who love the outdoors)

when fluffers has matts i will bathe him first just because clean hair is so much easier to cut than nasty dirty hair. i dont mind a shaved kitty

and i just gave my little reign a bath today to try and soothe her itchy skin. i brought home a flea from work so now ive got a balding, bleedy, scabby little kitty. poor thing is miserable. she really enjoyed the water running over her worst itchy spots
