Do any of your parents put you on massive guilt trips occasionally? If you have kids of your own, do you put them on guilt trips? If you had kids would you guilt trip them?
I was put on a massive trip today by my dad because I haven't talked to my mom in about a week. redface I don't mean to ignore anyone, but by the time I remember to call it is always very late. And I've been busy with projects and tests and stuff.
I hate guilt trips.

My parents do sometimes...but i'm just usually too distracted to identify them.

This one wasn't so bad as I thought it was. I talked to my mom today and everything's cool. I'm glad it's over though, and I can't wait til tomorrow cause my dad's coming up to school for the day! I haven't seen him (or mom) since the very beginning of February.

My mom typically doesn't give me guilt trips. She's learned that the direct approach works much better.

Asha: Yes, Blossom's in college. 4th year, with 2 more to go. gonk
Even though I've been away from home for 4 years now, I still get homesick every once in a while. It's the weirdest thing, especially since I refer to my college apartment as "home".

My parents still try to send me on guilt trips. They're very old, but they still try. Unfortunately for them, I don't go. They want me to call and be available all the time, but I have my own problems. Namely, my own kids, a job, and a house. And they're grownups, so they have to be at the bottom of the list most of the time. I do have to admit, I sometimes send my kids on guilt trips, but I don't get all coy about it. I'll say, "I just bought you those cool jeans and you won't even help me put the bags into the car?" Then they feel bad and help me.

I'm going to have to learn how to put people on guilt trips by the time I have kids. If I try now, I'm horribly unsuccessful. But one of my friends really lays on the guilt well. Maybe I could get lessons from her?

I wouldn't worry about it. I think once you have kids, your brain chemistry is permanently altered and the guilt trip thing just comes naturally.

Oooh, represent. My father is The Master of The Guilt Trip. He has it down to an art form.
I do make people feel guilty sometimes...not too often, because I can usually threaten them into doing what I want them to do. But if I want to, I can really pile it on. It's fun, in a rather sadistic way.
Zee: I take my laptop to school with me. My dad would kill me if he found out that I'm doing so, though...

I hate when people try to make me feel guilty. I make myself feel guilty enough most of the time...I don't need other people adding to it! sweatdrop

I try not to lay on guilt trips, most of the time.
In our house, it's me saying, "Kiddo, time to take a break from your studies and have some fun for a change!"
I do this in reaction because my own parents ruled by guilt, all the time, which they had learned from my grandparents, who also did it all the time. So I learned that fun is a precious and needful thing.
I even have to give myself help with "anti-guilt", because of my early training. Such as, "Fifteen minutes for a little rest in the sunshine!" or, "Just a little snack and coffee break!"
It helps.

I can't put people on guilt trips. It isn't possible. I tried.
