Hel stared out her window for a long moment before pulling the curtains shut with a loud sigh. Fright Night seemed…fun. If the noise and lights outside meant anything, anyways…but…bah. It probably wasn’t that great. Or so she tried to reassure herself as she made her way back to her loom and flopped down on the bench.

Yeah. It probably wasn’t great at all. Running it through the mud anyway she could made herself feel a bit better about being cooped up in her room because, after all, she really didn’t want to explain to anyone yet why her darker skin was eating away at her lighter skin bit by bit. It was progressively moving across her skin as the days went on…

Hel sighed again, and got to back to work on her fox fire blanket.

Lizzy was just on her way to Mac's room, where she had left something; Fright Night had just started a little while ago, so things hadn't really gotten busy at the booth she was running with Junko, which was the only reason she could slip away for the time being. However, as she made her way past a certain door, she slowed down, frowning at the light coming from under it.

Hel wasn't going to the festival? Was it because of what happened with Mot? Did Botb make it worse?

She lingered there, just outside the door, feeling unsure of herself; didn't Hel have some sort of talk with Mac already? She didn't even have the luxury of that, even if Shun had advised her to do it, and Mac's her boilfriend... Her frown deepened, and she pinched the bridge of her nose, squeezing her eyes shut as she tried to flush those bad, bad thoughts out.

Taking in a deep breath, she went up to the door, steeled her nerves, and knocked on the door.

The soft clack clack clack could be heard behind Hel’s door, which paused as soon as there was a knock on it.

Hel’s brows furrowed and she looked back at her door. Huh. She wasn’t counting on any visitors…certainly not when Fright Night was going on…and very few people came and knocked on her door. The reaper didn’t move from her spot and called out in a short tone, “Ya? Whaddya want?”

"It's Lizzy!"

A long pause followed.

"You promised me to teach me how to make stew!"

Lame excuse was lame.

Hel stared at her door and she stared at it hard.

Lizzy.

Of all beings.

With a lame a** excuse none the less.

The reaper didn’t move for a long while, pondering what in Jack’s name Lizzy could really be here for…and why ponder when she could just outright ask? Hel wasn’t happy though, not one bit. Their last face to face encounter ended on a very bad note, and it was something Hel still stubbornly hung onto it. Forgiveness was not a common or well practiced word in the valkyrie’s vocabulary. Hel huffed, aggravated now and pushed up from her bench and made her way to her door.

After undoing the lock, the door swung up to reveal the disgruntled looking ghoul…looking not so evenly split down the middle anymore. “Let us not beat around the bush, Lizzy.” Hel replied, her tone lacking any warmth. “What do you really want?”

Lizzy had waited at the door, spending the time playing with the lace on the edge of her skirt, fiddling with that loose strand of hair that kept wandering out of place, and then rocking to and fro as she looked around the empty corridor. She was anxious, and since Hel didn't answer her immediately, she wondered if maybe the reaper didn't want to see her... Which probably shouldn't be that surprising.

Just as she was about to leave, however, the door swung open to reveal someone... Someone she knew was Hel, but it wasn't the Hel she saw at BotB.

After the initial shock had passed, she shook her head, frowning slightly, "I was just worried... About you, I mean... You're not joining the festivities?"

Hel stared at Lizzy, hard. Scrutinizing the spider demoness, especially after she said she was worried about her. The reaper then couldn’t help but look at her very suspiciously now. She didn’t buy it. In her mind, she reasoned that Lizzy was just saying that.

She snorted, and then crossed her arms. “Oh, you were worried about me, huh? That is cute.” Her tone stated quite the opposite though. “No, I am not. I have better things to do than frolic out there.” She replied shortly. “Now, quit wasting my time. What do you want?”

Oh, maybe she didn't hear her that first time.

"... I was worried about you? I mean, a lot had happened, and I was a terrible friend for avoiding you instead of checking up on you..." Lizzy said again, her frown deepening as her cheeks started turning pink. At her answer, she blinked, her frown slowly easing into a smile, "Oh, I see... Well, Fright Night's probably not everyone's cup of tea anyway! So, what are you doing?"

Hel just kept on staring, her mouth pulling into a tight line. She wasn’t quite sure what to make of the ghoul before her. Part of her was surprised by her answer, but another part of her quickly squashed any decent thoughts with the idea that Lizzy was simply acting like she was worried.

“…Uh huh…” Hel started. “…Well…you will have to pardon me, dearest Lizzy—“ Her tone was dripping with sarcasm, “--if I am finding the fact you were truly worried about me hard to believe.” She ignored the last part of the ghoul’s words and shifted, leaning against her door frame now. “Having felt like the red headed step-scarling the last time I spoke to you, you really will have to pardon me.”

"I'm not that concerned about whether you believe me or not," Lizzy replied, her smile turning sheepish as she averted Hel's eyes for a moment; maybe a small, small part of her just wanted to know that Hel was worried about her too. You know, cheating on her with her boilfriend. Not keeping in contact. Not talking.

Her hands balled into a fist as she tensed up briefly, stopping herself from tearing up. When she looked up again, she was relaxed again, not wanting her emotions to get the better of her.

"You'll have to excuse me too," Her voice was soft, trembling a little, "The last time we spoke, I wasn't in the right state of mind."

The reaper kept quiet for a moment, her lips twisting. She watched as Lizzy’s fists clenched and the ghoul seemed to be trying to reign herself in. Hel rolled her shoulders briefly and tilted her head at the ghoul.

Ya. Obviously.” Her tone was flat. “Once again, I believe you have more on your mind than just worry for me, so either spit it out or scram.”

"I already said that I stopped by because I was worried, and if you don't want to believe me, that's fine," Lizzy didn't have anything else to say. She saw the light from under her door at a time when most students were out having fun at Fright Night, and she worried. What else was she supposed to say?

"It's good to see that you still have fight in you though! I guess that means that you're well enough, so I'll do as you say and scram now... Sorry if I disturbed whatever you were doing," She continued with a small smile, doubting that Hel would confide in her, even if there was something wrong; she seemed awfully hostile, after all... And it wasn't Shun that she was dealing with. Shun was always upfront with his feelings, which was part of the reason why she could be stubborn with him.

With Hel, it felt like she was just... Straining things further.

Ya. I do not believe you, Lizzy.” Hel quickly returned. “You know what I believe? I believe it is just a ploy—a rouse—A goody two shoe ghoul act. No one can get mad at that, right? It is a good cover up…a good tactic to fool others.” The ghoul remained leaning against the door.

I do not believe, for even a moment, that you are on my side, Lizzy. You are Mot’s best friend forever—“ She mocked, “You took his side back then, and I am more than certain you do now.”
PostPosted: Fri Sep 14, 2012 9:24 am

"A ploy to... What?" She blinked in confusion, tilting her head, "What am I trying to cover up exactly?"

She paused, "You're right, I am biased towards Mot, but that doesn't stop me from being worried about you... It's not about taking sides, and I'm sorry you think that way, but yes. Mot was at fault, and he's so non-confrontational that he probably doesn't know what to do right now, so he's being stupid about it. But as his best friend forever, what can I do but support what he thought was the best path to take? What else was I supposed to do?"

I do not believe you are always so sweet and have the best of intentions, Lizzy.” Hel kept on rolling. “That sickeningly sweet exterior hides some kind of inner turmoil, maybe, hm?” The reaper was just spouting off now.

The ghoul paused, and then snorted, waving her hand in a dismissive gesture. “Ya. I know you are biased, and still, I do not believe for a moment that you are worried about me!” She snorted again, shaking her head a bit. “As his best friend forever you could have…oh, I do not know…told him what he did wrong…” Hel rolled her shoulders again. “Try to set him on the right path? Bah…whatever. Not that it matters anymore. What is done is done, ya?” Hel mocked.
