The pounding of his shoes against the ground was music to Rory's ears. He had been hiding in the library for two hours, working on his homework where no one could see him. After two hours and much frustration, he decided to put away his parchment and quill to go for a run. His mind felt clearer now that he had and he considered going back to the library to finish the assignment.

He slowed his run down to a jog as he got closer to the school. Just as he was about to cross the tree line, he spotted a head of red hair coming towards the trees. The closer he got, he could see the boy's face and the scars that he sported. He didn't know how he got them, the boy being a year older than him and having been at Hogwarts a year before Rory had arrived.

When he got near the other boy, he stopped his jog. "Hello."

Rory watched as the boy spun around when he had heard the younger boy speak. Whatever he was doing seemed to take a lot of concentration. He watched as the second year boy held his hand out so a snake that was on a nearby rock could slither up it. He had left his own snake back in the dorm room. While he was observing the other boy, he noticed the scars that had yet to fade.

When he extended his hand out to Rory in greeting, the blond boy took it firmly in his own, having been raised to always respond with a firm handshake when necessary. It showed the other person your strength, from what he remembered.

"Yeah. You're Attor, right?" Though he hadn't met the scared red head before now, he had heard of him. His father had even told him about the boy's family before Rory had left to come to the school, in hopes that he would be able to get the other boy on his side. Purebloods had to stick together after all.

Rory watched as the older boy gritted his teeth when he shook his hand. Had he squeezed too hard? Or was the boy not able to handle a strong handshake? He caught sight of the scars again out of the corner of his eye. Or maybe his scars were still open?

Rory smirked slightly at Attor's question. "Maybe a little bit of both. Either way it makes introducing ourselves easier, right?" He took a breath in when Attor wondered what he was doing out here.

"A little," he commented as he looked around, "sometimes I just need to get out of there, you know?"

Though he was curious about hoe the boy had come to get his scars, Rory knew better than to ask while trying to start a first conversation with the boy. If he didn't want to talk about it, it would be best not to offend him; especially if he wanted the older Slytherin boy as an ally.

"It does sometimes, though it's much easier here than meeting someone in one of the formal meetings," he replied with a shrug, "At least then we know each other's names already and there's not too much awkward small talk."

Rory nodded in agreement once again as Attor went to sit on the rock. "Yeah, it's much easier to think out here without all of the noise like inside." he went over to a tree near the other boy and leaned against it. "It's alright so far, I guess. You?"
