Inhaling deeply, Latifu paused on her travels. She and her daughter were just outside of the Pridelands, and no matter what Konya said, the old lioness knew that her daughter was going to stay here. Laitfu could, but part of her wanted to continue moving. She didn't quite feel like the Pridelands was the place with her, with how massive it was. It was unsettling, and she wanted to avoid it.

Still, knowing that Konya had rekindled a flame with someone (that had produced her early granddaughter, to boot!) meant that Konya would remain here. At least she had the grace to keep her mother company until Latifu found a new place to call home. The Unity Walkers being disbanded due to a plague had been devastating, as it was the only real home she had known her entire life. Not knowing what to do next had been hard on the aging lioness, and it had forced her to realize how old she had gotten over the years.

"I need a break," she said to the open air, finding a decent place to rest her tired legs.

Maua was wandering without regard to what territory she might trespass through on her way. She had heard about the very large pride that lived around here and as much as she loved poking around the brighter and busier spots in the savanna, today she was searching for birds. One little family of birds in particular, in fact. Friends of her's that she knew lived in this general area but that she hadn't seen in a while. It was starting to feel impossible.

She was distracted from her hunt when she spotted a brightly color figure in the grass. Intentionally or not, her path changed to bring her closer and closer until finally she was near enough behind Latifu to hear her announce her need for a break.

"Nice spot for a break," she commented, hoping she was loud enough to be heard.

Latifu blinked a few times, feeling a little startled that she heard a voice. She didn't think she was near enough to really garner any attention from the pride, but she turned around anyway....

...to see a lioness with a ton of hair. More that Latifu ever thought possible. In every other sort of aspect she seemed normal enough, so Latifu just figured it was some sort of genetic defect.

"Er, hello," the lioness said politely. "You need a break, as well?" She shifted over a bit, though she wasn't sure how good of company she was.

Seeing no problem in accepting the invitation implicit in Latifu moving over, real or imagined, Maua took a few steps closer. She made sure to walk around so she was easier to see without forcing the other lioness to turn all the way about.

"I think so," she said, "I don't think I'm going to find what I'm looking for here."

There was a moment's hesitation before she finally sat down with the brightly colored stranger.

"I'm Maua, what's your name?"

Latifu's head tilted to the side as she was unable to contain her curiosity. This colourful (and hairy) lioness was looking for something? The old lioness supposed she was in sort of the same position, though she had a feeling it wasn't for the same reasons.

"I'm Latifu," the teal lioness replied. "It is nice to meet you, Maua. Are you not here to visit the Pridelands?" After getting a sense of how massive the Pridelands was, it was hard to believe that any one lingering around her wasn't a member. How would you be able to tell the difference? It wasn't like they had a token around their necks declaring their membership.

"It's nice to meet you, Latifu," she returned cheerfully, shaking her head in response to the question. It seemed just luck that she knew that the pride around here were simply called the Pridelands. Though perhaps not, it was huge and it had quite the reputation.

"No," she said, "I was thinking about it but I don't think I will. Are you?"

It seemed a fair question, considering their proximity to the pride in question but it wouldn't normally have been Maua's first assumption. Of course, she was a god. Her priorities were different.

Latifu glanced over to where the general direction of the pride was, and released a small sigh. "No, but yes at the same time. My daughter found her first love, and I fear she will leave me for him." Her tail twitched. "Its a bit selfish, but...she has pledged to take me to another pride, one that is not so overwhelming. I'm waiting for her to meet me here at some point, actually."

Latifu felt she could be a bit selfish, especially with Konya. Her girl had been very dependent on her mother for most of her life, and it had come to a bit of a shock to Latifu that Konya finally decided she could live on her own, away from Latifu. The old lioness was taking it as gracefully as she could.

"Aww," Maua looked over at Latifu with more interest when she revealed details of her story, and her daughter's, "I hope she returns to fulfill her promise, even if she does leave. It happens to every mother, I don't think it's ever easy."

She smiled, thinking about her own offspring.

"Is she your youngest?" she asked, venturing to guess that Latifu would have more than one cub. It was rare that it worked out that way even if you just had one pregnancy so it was a fair guess, she thought.

Latifu smiled, but shook her head. "No, she's one from my first litter. She was just....the type that never seemed to want to leave my side, so its a bit of a shock."

She herself was a little more interesting in Maua, but was still a little taken aback my her braid. The flowers within it were very pretty, though, and Latifu found it a bit...relaxing. Flowers had been something she had always liked, along with the river that had flowed through her old pride's lands...

"I'm sure she'll return, I just don't know when she'll show up. Her guilt will bring her back here," Latifu said with a laugh.

She was right to guess Latifu had more than one child but she was surprised to hear she was an older daughter. Maua never had long-lasting problems with clingy cubs but when it looked like she might, more cubs always seemed an effective treatment.

"That's very interesting," she said, pausing before daringly continuing, "Do you mind if I keep you company for a little while?"

Latifu smiled warmly, more than she thought she would towards an almost complete stranger. "I would like that a lot," Latifu replied, happy to have company. She knew it wasn't terribly safe to linger here alone for an indefinite period of time, as not all rogues were kind. Having another near her would certainly be comforting.

"Perhaps you can tell me if you have any offspring, and what they're like," she offered, happy to discuss something as simple as her children.

Maua was very happy that Latifu accepted her request to stick around. It was hard to tell just how much someone was just putting up with you sometimes, she didn't analyze casual conversations like this carefully enough to catch it.. ever, really.

"Oh, certainly!" she said, always happy to babble about her babies, "My most recent litter was just two, a girl and a boy, but that's all you really need. Their father was lovely green color, not nearly as bright as you- no, you're very flowery looking, he's more leafy. Kumea looks quite a bit like him- like us both, I guess."

She spoke very quickly, pausing for a second- long enough to realize she ought to remark on the other, too.

"Mila looks like me," she said, "At least, her fur is very similar to mine."

The teal lioness laughed. "Oh wow. I never thought I looked very flower like, but your description gives me a better idea of what his coat colour was," she said with an amusing tone. It was a bit flattering to be compared more to a flowery colour than a leaf colour, though there was nothing wrong with either one of them.

"That is so sweet! I've had a couple litters, but my daughter I'm with right now is out of my first litter. She looks so much more like her father than me. Its a little sad, since he was my real love, but not everything works out." She grew quiet for a moment, since that was...forever ago. She had stayed in the pride, even when he disappeared, at least until the pride was destroyed.

"But I'm happy now, and its nice to be the one taken care of instead of the one doing the caring!" she laughed.

It was nice to hear Latifu laugh, she started this conversation seeming so tired and serious. She seemed to like being compared to a flower, or find it very funny.. but Maua rather preferred that kind of a comparison. It was why she presented herself in the colors she did, though it was as much luck as intention. She could hide her natural colors if she wanted.

"Ah, I've found real love can happen more than once in a lifetime," she said thoughtfully, looking far too young to make such a claim but meaning it, "It's always sad when it's lost, though."

Maua was not exactly reserved or even entirely monogamous, she hadn't chosen to stay with the lion who fathered Kumea and Mila after all.. but she knew what love was like. Latifu's remark about being taken care of instead of taking care was something she couldn't identify with, though. She still smiled agreeably, though.

Latifu waved the sweet lioness off with a paw. "I've tried it a couple more times, but I can say that I'm pretty satisfied with how I feel right now. You're so sweet for encouraging me, though."

Maua did look younger than Latifu herself was, but the teal lioness knew that looks weren't everything. Just reminders, really.

"I'm content to live out my life comfortably, with good company like you're being. Thank you for talking with me." She just...felt happy to have that company, while Konya was prepping for their move to find Latifu a less....crowded new home.
