Moon Hunter PRINCESS ISLAND General Information Maintaining a superior defense is the pride of the Moon Division, defending even at the expense of attacking. However, this can be hard, especially for trainees who just got new magic weapons full of glowing and powers. Thus the Princess Island. At the center of the island sits a princess who will do absolutely nothing to protect herself, and it's up to you to build defenses that will withstand shadowling attacks so she she doesn't die in a horribly realistic manner.
There's four main paths for shadowling's to travel through, and you have 3 types of building materials to create your defenses from: straw bales, wood, and bricks. The sturdier the material, the sturdier the barrier, but the fewer you can build in the allotted time. After a set amount of time, the princess will crush a pumpkin pill, attracting varying amounts of lurking shadowlings. You get to watch helplessly from the observation station, without getting to attack yourself.
These creature are extremely weak and ill formed, coming up against a solid defense they will disperse, but in turn they also weaken said defense. When a defense goes down, they go right to the princess and attack her. Should she survive the wave, you get to go back down, rebuild, and do it again.
If you fail: the princess has died, horribly, and you've wasted a lot of time on this only to look fairly incapable. All things considered? Most pleasant course to fail.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights go to those with the healthiest princess and lasted through the most attack waves. If you choose to go beyond 5 rounds, switch the enemy dice roll to 4 d20s.
Mechanics Your princess has 20 hp First, roll the strength of you defense, using the dice for whichever building type you choose.
Brick: 4 d12 Wood: 8 d6 Hay bales: 12 d4
The order of the die determine the HP for each barrier location. For example, with bricks, rolling 5/6/8/1, would mean that path 1 has 5 HP, path 2 has 6 HP and so on. With a wood roll of 3/3/3/1/2/5/5/2, the first 2 dice would equal the amount of the first path. Brick would be the least math-y of the building materials (you lazy asses.) Roll 4 d12 for the attacking forces. Once again the order of the dice correspond with the path being affected. Then do the math to determine the status of your defenses and princess. Example: My defenses are 5/6/8/10 The attackers are 3/7/3/8
The result defenses are 2/-1/5/2 Negative numbers are taken off the princesses HP, leaving her at 19 HP. Go back and rebuild your defenses in the same manner as before, you'll be building on top of old defenses so you add the new defense HP to the remaining defense HP. Negative numbers = 0 HP for the defense, not negative HP. Minimum rounds to complete the course is 3
Bonus Mechanics Their defense expertise allows them to build slightly sturdier barriers. This applies to all paths that start at 0 hp. They do not stack. So if you are re-building on a barrier that lasted from an existing round, this bonus does not apply, as it is already still in effect.
Trainees: 0 hp bonus Moon Trainees: +1 hp bonus to each path Hunters: +1 hp to each path Moon Hunters: + 2 hp to each path

Wash didn't know where Jerry went, and frankly it had him a little worried. After spending a while pacing his own room, he resolved to find something to do to keep him busy. His friend would contact him when he was ready to talk - right? Meanwhile, he had some goals he'd set himself that he intended to meet. And so it was that Wash found himself on the princess isle training course, guffawing openly. For there, before him, dolled up like some fluffy pink Maid Marian, was Jerry. Well, the golem likeness of Jerry. Fortunately, it didn't seem interested in attempting to emulate the sun in anything but appearance, lounging on the ground and inspecting its nails lazily. It made the moon hunter more than a little uncomfortable. If this was someone's idea of a joke, it was ill timed. "Man, that just ain't your color," he muttered, finally shrugging his big shoulders awkwardly and shuffling over over to the building materials. Eyeing them critically, he started rolling the bales of hay- they weren't as intimidating as the brick or wood, but they were the quickest to move. He didn't quite get how this one worked - he remembered seeing it in practice maybe, but his lack of certainty on the timing of enemy waves left him more concerned about speed than solidity. He hoped Maid Jerry wouldn't pay the price. He didn't need more nightmares. Status Wave: 0 Path 1 HP: 8 Path 2 HP: 6 Path 3 HP: 10 Path 4 HP: 5 Princess HP: 20/20

Wash winced, backing away as the first tide of shadowlings roiled toward his makeshift barriers. He tried not to wonder if this golem's death would be as realistic as the time the doctor had shot his own assistant in front of all the other trainees. No, surely such little things could be stopped by a bit of straw, right? Maid Jerry-an seemed disturbingly unconcerned. It picked it's toenails idly, only flinching when one shadowling managed to whip a tentacle past the barrier to knock it's glasses askew. It glared at it resolutely, until finally the first wave receeded and Wash could hastily begin to make repairs. Status Wave: 1 Path 1 HP: 6 Path 2 HP: -2 Path 3 HP: 7 Path 4 HP: 3 Princess HP: 18/20

He tried to repair what he could; fortifying what was there, replacing what had been knocked around or deteriorated. He sneezed a couple of times in the interim - the shadowlings had knocked the hay all about and dust floated everywhere - but was mostly alright. However, the monsters seemed to be determined to cause him trouble, as they started sneaking back before he could finish fortifying the area in front of the second path. Wash bit his lip, regarding the Jerry golem with a growing sense of concern. It continued to ignore him, twirling blades of grass between it's fingers. It adjusted it's glasses absently. Wash hissed audibly as the shadowlings completely eroded the hay bales in front of the first path. Path two was also compromised, and Jerry let out a very unladylike yell as a shadowling bit him cruelly on the side. Clutching at his wounds, he scampered away, putting his back to the third path's blockade. Wash held his breath, but the attack finally dispersed and that final barrier held in place. He stumbled over to the golem, and it gave him wide, panicked eyes, hands still pinned to his side. This wasn't nearly as fun or diverting as he'd hoped. This time, Wash was much more careful - making sure to spend the most time reinforcing the paths that had been compromised, moving faster, arms pumping as he rolled more and more haystacks into place. In the background he could hear the golem whimpering. He didn't turn around - the sight was disturbing, a wounded animal's hooded and feral gaze from his friend's soft brown eyes. He finally stepped away, ready as he could be for the next wave. Status Wave: 2 Path 1 HP: 8 Path 2 HP: 8 Path 3 HP: 20 Path 4 HP: 11 Princess HP: 14/20

They were unrelenting, and once again the second barrier was breached. The rest of the structures held as the nightmare tide rushed toward the now-screeching golem. It was frozen by fear, lying there limp and helpless as something shot out from the cloud of shadows and sliced open it's ankle. Its eyes rolled back in its head, gazing at Wash with a panicked stare. It panted, chest heaving through the airy pink fabric. He had to do better than this. They swarmed the straw, wispy tendrils of shadow probing the barriers for weaknesses, piling up until there was a cloud of them. The golem just shuddered continuously, frightened out of what little mind it had and completely defenseless. Wash let out a breath he hadn't known he was holding as the tide of shadow beings slowly dissolved. He even gave a little joyful skip as he trotted back to his charge - who simply eyed him balefully. Again, they swarmed, but again, Wash triumphed. He pumped his fist in the air. He'd lasted at least five waves - good enough for him, really, but... He looked down at the golem, biting his lip. He knew in his HEAD that that wasn't really Jerry, but his eyes told him something else, and it made the whole thing...disquieting. Still, he shouldn't squander the time he had here. He decided to attempt another round, and set to work. Status Wave: 5 Path 1 HP: 5 Path 2 HP: 14 Path 3 HP: 16 Path 4 HP: 4 Princess HP: 11/20

This time he wasn't just relying on speed, but technique. He used the straw that had built up from previous attempts to fill in the gaps of the new barriers, working up right until an angry swarm descended on his little bunker. It looked...bigger than before. Jerry golem let out a soft moan. Status Wave: 5 Path 1 HP: 15 Path 2 HP: 24 Path 3 HP: 27 Path 4 HP: 16 Princess HP: 11/20
