Ever since her last wayward trip outside of the meadow, Poe had been very careful, she certainly didn't want to get lost again - but she was getting older now and her mother had asked her to go and pick her some dandelions to stock the herd up before the cooler weather of fall killed them all. It had seemed like a calm enough task..picking wildflowers couldn't be all that dangerous right? At least she didn't have to help clear the forest paths like Lapin had been sent to do - those paths were horribly dark and scary...but running back and forth on them was just the sort of thing she knew her sister would love.

Humming a quiet tune to herself Poe was finding that she was actually enjoying herself as she walked along the stream bed every now and then collecting one of the brightly colored flowers and adding it to the growing pile that she was holding in her tentacles. One in a while her oddities did come in handy she was glad to find.

There was a chill in the air today, a certain sign that fall was on it's way. Depending on how much longer this little knowledge journey of his was taking Delnar might be spending the winter away from the safety of the herd. But it was for the herd that Delnar was scouring the lands trying to find as much information as possible about them before returning. He had been gone a few months now and had gathered a decent amount of knowledge about the lands that lay beyond the herds current location and what they knew about. There was just about every kind of terrain here, forest, wetlands, meadows, mountains, swamps, desert, and though he had yet to see it, he had been told there was an ocean to the south. Imagine that, an ocean! It would be on his list of things to see and learn about before returning to the herd. He was certain the herd leaders would be grateful for the information he was gathering, as it would mean the herd would be more free to move around knowing where it was and wasn't safe. And perhaps they could also relax just a bit, though this land had so far proved itself so much safer than their old lands.

Following along a stream Delnar glanced across large swaths of grass dotted with trees. What a beautiful place. Movement ahead caught his attention and he pulled to a stop. Up ahead he could see a small grey foal wandering along the stream as well. A quick scan told him no parents or adults were around. He hoped the foal wasn't lost, but if that turned out to be the case he would do what he could to help. Starting forward again Delnar began to close the gap between himself and the foal, as he got closer he saw a black horn protruding from the foals forehead, well there was some minicorn blood present. But what surprised him was the tentacles coming out from the neck, that where currently holding flowers. How odd. Bringing himself to a stop before he got too close to the foal, knowing that foals were often easy to fright at strangers, Delnar called out to the foal in a gentle tone. "Hello there little one."

Poe nearly fell into the stream at the sound of someone speaking to her, as it was she got one of her hooves wet before she caught herself - and it was so chilly she was positive, absolutely positive that she was going to catch a cold from it!. Using the bunch of flowers as a flimsy shield she tried to hide herself from the stranger. After a few moments however when he neither went away nor attacked her Poe peered out at him shyly from the top of the bouquet.

He seemed nice enough, his voice was quiet and Poe was always a fan of quiet and even his coat while a shade of blue wasn't all that bright and obnoxious . Certainly he seemed nicer then that other stallion she had met..Garret..he had been kind of cranky. "Hello" she answered him softly because really that was just the polite thing to do after he had spoken to her. Now that she was looking at him she could see that the stallion had a horn as well. "Are..are you lost sir?" She finally asked because the others in the herd had been trying to tell her she needed to help Soquili who got lost wandering around the mountains and stumbled across their little meadow - well as long as they weren't dangerous. If they were dangerous she was supposed to run home. This one didn't seem dangerous..yet.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you." Delnar bit back a chuckle watching the small filly hit behind the bunch of flowers. It was cute how she thought hiding behind them might...well he wasn't sure what she was hoping to accomplish, but it was typical shy foal behavior. He waited patiently and quietly for her to come out of hiding, giving her a smile when she finally did. Her voice was quiet, whether ti be from her shyness or because she was the soft spoken type Delnar wasn't sure. Her question made him smile wider and this time he couldn't help but let out a small chuckle. "I'm not exactly lost, though I don't really have a destination in mind either. In fact I was wondering if you were lost. I don't see your parents around." He gave another glance around but sure enough no adults in sight. "Are you from around here little one?"

His eyes settled on the bunch of dandelions she was holding in those odd tentacles. But then he noticed one had fallen out from her earlier actions. "You seem to have dropped one of your flowers." He told her pointing with his muzzle to the dropped flower sitting by her hoof. "My names Delnar, and I am a traveler, exploring the lands and learning everything that I can. What is your name?" He hoped that she would share that with him, and that he could find out whether she was lost or not. In fact, he knew well that ofte foals wandered away from their parents to play, explore or just feel some freedom, so while he wanted to make sure she wasn't lost Delnar also knew there was a chance she lived nearby and was just partaking in some alone time. "This place sure is beautiful." He said, letting his gaze sweep over the meadow again. It sort of reminded him of where his herd lived now, only they were a bit more sheltered by trees on either side, and there was a lake not far from them either.

No he wasn't mean at all - no one who was mean would apologize for scaring her. Somewhat emboldened by this fact Poe lowered the flowers further and even chanced a look to the one he pointed out that had fallen, after recollecting the flower she looked back up at him. Nope..still not mean. "I'm not lost" She told him, glancing back up the stream as though to really make sure she wasn't, nope there was the meadow a little ways down, she could tell by the way the light brightened. "I'm Poe, my Grandpa's herd lives in the meadow over there" She told the stallion, motioning back along the stream.

Since he seemed to be worried about her being out by herself she tried to explain "My mom sent me to collect Dandelions for the winter, they're pretty good for when you don't feel well but soon the frost will kill them." She rather liked plants, they were nice and quiet and not really all that scary..well unless you ran across some with thorns, Poe didn't much like those particular plants..or poisonous ones like Ivy that made you itchy and Lapin had told her a horror story abut something called a cactus from the desert which was a plant with giant spikes..she said that her new teacher had told her about them..come to think of it Poe wasn't all to sure if she did like plants after all.

Delnar was certainly relieved to hear that the foal was not lost. Not that he wouldn't have helped her if she was, but something lost foals could get so turned around trying to find their way home that they got even more lost before they could find the right way. "It's very nice to meet you Poe." He glanced up in the direction she had looked just a moment before, well she hadn't ventured too far from her home so that was good. She may not be currently lost but he would hate for her to wander off and get lost now. "My herd is..." Then he glanced up at the sun to gain his barrings before motioning off to the east. "That way, though it is quite a long journey to get there as I myself have been traveling for some time now. Do you think I could meet your grandfather? It would be nice to meet some other Usdia and learn about their herd and the place that they live."

As she explained what she was doing Delnar gave his head a nod. "Your mother is very smart to have you collect them now. Indeed they are good for when our not feeling well. Would you like some help with them? I figure we can gather more together and then if your grandfather could talk to me that would be wonderful, if not I can be on my way and your herd will have plenty of dandelions for the winter ahead." He thought it would be a good way to gain her trust, help her out and gather information about this area. It must be a safe area if they let foals venture out to collect things.

Poe almost always remembered to use her manners, and it somewhat shocked her that she hadn't told this nice stallion that it was pleasure to meet him already - sure he had distracted her by asking about the herd but that wasn't really a good excuse for being rude! "It's a pleasure to meet you too sir." She replied. She was quite sure by now that he was a nice stallion, he was even offering to help her and he was right with the two of them then they could certainly get more Dandelions in a fraction of the time!.

"I'm sure that he will talk to you, He's very nice." She assured the stallion with a slight bob of her head. It was somewhat strange to her that he was so far from his herd but he had already said that he was an explorer and she supposed that must have something to do with it. Of course that made her consider something. "If you are so far away from your herd...what are you going to do when Winter comes? It can get pretty cold and snowy up this high in the mountains.." She warned him even as she searched about for another flower to pick.

She was certainly coming out of her shell now, and Delnar was happy to see that. All she needed was just a bit of time to see he wasn't a threat and he knew she would open up a bit. When she said her grandfather would talk with him that made him smile all the more. "Excellent! Let's get these dandelions picked then so we can go see him." Delnar took a few steps away looking for dandelions to pick. Unlike Poe he didn't have tentacles to hold onto them, so instead he decided to place them into a pile on the ground until they were ready to go, then he would carry them. This would allow him to keep their conversation going without him having to mumble around a mouthful of flowers. Finding two dandelions Delnar carefully snipped the stems and set them down.

Poe's question made him pause and he glanced at the filly. "Well to be perfectly honest I'm not sure what I will do during the winter. If I stay up in the mountains I may just need to find a place to stay until spring, or I might head lower where the cold and snow are less and continue on my journey for as long as I can." He hadn't really thought too much on the subject until she had brought it up. After all it had been summer when he had left his herd and while he knew it would take many months to travel the lands and learn what he could Delnar had not given traveling in winter much of a thought. "Perhaps your grandfather can give me some advice regarding that, as I know little of areas such as this." It would be certainly something to ask the other stallion once he met the herd, but for the moment the most important thing was helping Poe find dandelions to bring back to her family. Finding another one Delnar snipped it's stem and placed it into his pile.

Poe paused as she picked another flower to look at the stallion..he hadn't thought about it before he left? It was astounding to her that he hadn't attempted to come up with solutions to all the possible problems he might face before hand - perhaps he hadn't meant to stay away so long but by the way he spoke it sounded like he planned to be gone for a long time so she doubted that. She shook her head slightly..if she ever went on a trip she'd make sure she had everything thought out before hand so she didn't get caught in the cold weather without a plan, imagine how scary it would be trying to live through a blizzard all by yourself!

"I bet Grandpa would let you stay with us, he lets lots of travelers stay, this summer he let some big Soquili stay and raise their foals here. They are very nice and my Aunt Mercy he brought here as a basket to live because she didn't have any parents." She told the stallion to assure him that visitors and the like were always more then welcome - it was important to help people when you could she had been taught...and she wanted to..you know as long as they weren't big and scary or mean. Of course thinking of her Aunt Mercy made her realize something else "Aunt Mercy even has a horn on her head like yours!..And wings..but hers aren't on her butt."

Delnar placed another dandelion in the pile before looking over at Poe. "Well your grandfather is very kind to provide travelers a safe place to stay. I wouldn't want to be a burden on your herd but perhaps I may stay if he advices it. I don't this area well enough to be traveling around blindly in the winter." He hadn't figured to find himself in an alpine area this late in the year, but then again he hadn't really set out a specific travel plan either. His main goal had been to see the lands and learn all he could before returning to the herd. If it meant staying with this herd through the winter so that he could be safe and warm then so be it. Besides from what Poe had said her grandfather was quite knowledgeable and nice, surely he could learn a lot if he stayed here for a while and it would allow him to see how other herds function as well.

Hearing that the herd also welcomed the larger breeds brought a smile to his lips. His own herd was too unsure of their new neighbors to invite them in just yet, but perhaps when he returned things would change. He let out a laugh as she compared his features to his Aunt Mercy. "Well we do sound somewhat similar." He glanced down at the flowers he had collected a well as the ones Poe had picked up. "Do you think we have enough dandelions?" He didn't mind collecting more but the more heard about her herd the more he wanted to see it and meet those within it.

Poe glanced at the Dandilion pile that Delnar was making, between that and the boquet she'd created in her tentacles she was thinking they likely had enough to take back to the herd for today. "Grandpa says that no ones a burden as long as they are willing to do their share of the work." She stated in a voice which made it sound as though she were quoting something that had been told to her many times in the past.

"I thin you'll like her" Poe told him when he spoke again "Everyone love's Aunt Mercy and mom says she's to come back and visit soon before the weather gets to bad." She told him, brightening up at the thought - that would surely make Lapin happy! Her sister just hadn't been quite the same since Aunt Mercy had left, oh sure she's stopped sniffing and sulking a couple of days afterwards but she still wasn't completely the same. Looking over the dandelions again she nodded, recalling her thoughts from earlier. "I think so yes, we only need enough to last till spring and only a little bit is used at a time" She said, gripping her dandelions carefully. "Can you carry them all? I can take a few more if you can't" She offered sweetly.

Delnar gave his head a nod. It made perfect sense to him and he honestly couldn't see it any other way. "Well if he were to let me stay I would gladly help out with whatever was needed." He had done his share in his own herd and while he didn't have much responsibilities while traveling he did feel bad for leaving his herd and letting his work load fall to another. But what he was doing was for the greater good of the herd and that knowledge made him happy with his decision.

"I tend to like everyone." He said with a bit of a laugh. There were exceptions to the rule of course, those with evil intent he disliked and tried to avoid at all costs. "Well then perhaps I will get to meet her if I stay here." When she confirmed that they had enough he smiled. "Good. I think I can get them all." He told her before taking a moment to arrange the pile so he could more easily pick them up. It took a moment for him to gather up the steps carefully as he didn't want to crush them or the flowers. Eventually he got them all and while it wasn't easy he would manage. Giving her a nod to indicate he was good and ready to go he waited for her to lead him back to the herd.

Watching the stallion as carefully picked up his pile Poe waited for a few moments to make sure he wouldn't drop any of them - but he seemed to have it all well enough in hoof. Once in a while - at times like this - she was rather glad for her differences, she was still free to talk and chat if she wanted too while the stallion behind her was not. Of course to prattle on while he couldn't would be rude..then again so would being silent! Oh no...Poe was suddenly gripped with the fear of offending the stranger. Her mother had always said that it was important to be polite and that was a lesson that Poe took to heart.

Still trying to figure out how to fix this problem she turned around and started to make her way down the trail. ever so carefully picking her feet up over the various root's - it certainly wouldn't do to trip and sprain a fetlock..or crush the flowers. "Be careful of the roots" She warned Delanr and brightened suddenly..see she was talking but not overly so - that would work! Somewhat more cheerful she led the minicorn towards her herd. She was sure that her grandfather would be delighted to meet him.
