Vogen Crestview

Major: Engineering

Year: 2nd

Age: 20

Vogen is the son of a famous engineer, Victius Crestview. Victius’s achievements are the talk of all of his professors and he has grown to resent his father, as Vogen feels like he is always being compared to him. In Vogen’s quest to one-up his father, he has become an extremely bright and driven individual but has made him careful to hide any weakness and he is quick to anger in the event of failure attributable to him. A quiet boy at first, he is quick to warm to those who treat him with kindness. When not working in the shop on a new creation for class, he is deep into the latest murder mystery book or fantasy adventure.

"Stop you fiend!" shouted a female voice as footsteps made their ways down the hall full of classrooms. Many in the classes that occupied that hall recognized the voice and the sound of the chase. Many jumped from their seats running to the doors to see what the owner of the voice was doing. Or whom it was she was chasing this time.

A young looking girl with shoulder length blond hair which curled at the bottom was chasing a man much older and bigger than herself down the hall. He almost looked like he wasa teacher the way he was dressed and the sachel he was carrying. Students watched as the small girl gained on the man and then with one jump landed on his back forcing him to the ground. "I said stop!" she growled irritated moving to stand up. The man tried to move from the ground only to have the girls foot pressing into his upper back to keep him on the floor. It was then that campus security finally seemed to catch up. "Where have you been?" the girl questioned them looking as if she had been standing there for quite awhile waiting for them to arrive. Removing her foot she watched as campus security hoisted the manup, cuffed him and then took him away. As they ushered him away he shouted curses back at the girl who seemed unbothered.

Vogen was in the middle of his second afternoon class on the first floor of the electrical engineering wing of St.Basel's, the engineering building on the campus. The hallway was wide and the classrooms had windows along the hallway side to allow for professors to observe the entire class without having to directly interface with what the students were doing unless they had to. Vogen was startled by a shout coming from the hallway and turned from his latest creation just in time to see a young woman leap through the air and come crashing down on a man in a white coat. Putting his tools down he walked to the windowed wall of the classroom and peered out.

Vogen immediately recognized the man on the floor as Professor Strom, an engineering professor of some significant repute who was visiting the campus to assist on an engineering project that Vogen had heard a little about from overhearing two of his professors talk about it. Deciding to indulge his curiosity, Vogen exited the classroom and walked up to the young lady

"Excuse me, but I couldn't help but notice you just tackled a lead electrical engineer!" Vogen exclaimed, cocking his head to one side and placing his hands on his hips "I assume you had a good reason?" ... Vogen looked down at the ground and noticed a strange fluid where the man had fallen. He bent down to investigate.

Sharp blue eyes cut Vogen as he approached the young girl. Looking him up and down she gave a snort. "Of course I did. Why else do you think campus security is hauling him away towards the police waiting at the front of the campus." the girl said sounding a bit annoyed like the whole event wasn't more obvious.

"I wouldn't touch that if I were you." the girl said quickly crouching down and wiping it up with a hankerchief. Making sure she had gotten it all up she stood up again. She had mysteriously managed latex gloves before she had bent down to wip the substance up. "Its quite dangerous. Jet fuel he had synthesized to soak into the skin like mercury and cause poisoning. Hes been doing it to every school hes visited in the past 3 months. I simply must call my father and let him know I handled his job for him." With that said she pulled out a lighter which she clicked to life before holding it to the hankerchief. The hankerchief lit up in an instant and the girl dropped it a second later. It burnt up before it ever touched the ground leaving no trace of it.

"The question was rhetorical, umm Miss_____? " Vogen asked, intending the girl to fill the blank with her name.

Vogen watched, amused, as the girl wiped up the substance in a handkerchief and then set the handkerchief on fire. He watched as the handkerchief burned incredibly quickly, watched the colors of the flame and smelt the smoke that was produced by burning.

"Do you really think your silly story will work on me?" Vogen laughed, peering over his glasses at the girl. "Rocket fuel burns with a red flame, not a blue one" he said, making gestures with his hands "And it certainly would have had a powerful smell of petrol," Vogen continued, crossing his arms across his chest. "You wana try a different story or have I demonstrated the intelligence necessary to handle the truth?" Vogen snorted.

"Holmes-Watson." Kaitlyn informed proudly. "Excuse me?" she asked sounding very offended. "You think I would not know the color in which rocket fuel burns. I do believe I said he sythesized it did I not? Honestly are all you people in this school really so dull minded. I do not need a second yeas Engineering major who happens to be the son of Victius Crestview telling me what I do and do not know. What started out as merely harmless but flamable jet fuel in the hands of that psychopath was synthesized in a mercurial like fuel that can kill a human. Of course if he had it smelling like jet fuel he would have never been able to get anyone to work with it. He needed it to smell like something that would be common place hence the smell of petrol and when he managaed to synthesize it to do that the flame it produced was blue. Obviously... now why don't you go run back home to your dog, blood hound I do believe and tinker with something." Kaitlyn said with a huff.

Vogen tried to keep his jaw from dropping when he heard her last name was Holmes-Watson. this must be the daughter of the famous investigators I have read about in my books! He thought. Her tenure here at the school was also legendary, and Vogen believes he had read a pamphlet put out by her regarding electrical engineering when she was ... 16. Shuddering at the thought that he had just challenged the daughter of his childhood heroes, Vogen backed down a bit.

"Fine then..." Vogen said... putting his hands in his pockets and lowering his gaze a little "I had not considered that synthesized rocket fuel would burn a different color..." Vogen continued, reevaluating his observations regarding the burning of the fluid. Vogen disregarded the quib about his dog and proceeded to walk back into he classroom to finish his project.

Before he could get to the door though, a well dressed figure entered the hallway and ordered the pair to come with him, "immediately" the figure said.

Blue eyes cut a glance at the man before her again when it seemed he had paused in his thoughts at her last name. She smirked when the man seemed defeated by her explanation of the synthesized fuel. "Well obviously it could not have been the same if its chemical make up had been changed." she rolled her eyes.

"Hmmm the games afoot." she said in a hushed voice as the well dressed man approached. "Right then after you." she said looking to Vogen.

Looking sadly at his incomplete project, Vogen reluctantly walked toward the doorway were the constable and two campus security officials awaited them.

The pair were lead out of the engineering building and across the central courtyard to a small building with a large sign above it with the words "CAMPUS CONSTABLE". Both Vogen and Kaitlyn were lead into a small room where the constable sat and put his feet up on the table. His shoes were muddy so he kept them hanging over the side of the desk and not actually touching the top.

"So, you two were witness to quite a ruckus this morning hmm?" the constable said, looking both of them in the eye before lighting a cigarette and taking a few puffs. "This campus doesn't take kindly to vigilantes" he continued...

The man's head was bald and recently sub-burned, he kept his hands clasped when not holding his cigarette, almost like he was trying to hide something. One hand had a ring that had a curious design carved in to it, Vogen thought he had seen it before but could not identify where.

"Sir I was just minding my own business in 'shop' and came upon the scene after Ms. Holmes-Watson had tackled the man. I'm not sure what you hope to be getting from me" Vogen managed to say, wondering why he was even here.

The constable was not convinced, a small smile crept on his face and he looked from the girl directly into the eyes of the young man "You, Mr. Crestview, are here because I think you know something." He said "I am just trying to get information, Dr. Strom was involved in, activities, that this campus would like to remain.... secret." The constable said carefully, " Did you notice anything unusual anything at all?" the Constable said, looking from the eyes of Vogen to the eyes of Ms. Holmes-Watson. "Anything at all?"

Kaitlyn allowed the men to lead the way observing as they walked. She couldn't help the smirk on her face. The game was becoming far more interesting, she couldn't wait to tell her parents about what she had discovered. The way things were developing she might even have to call her uncle to get help. Being underage certainly put a damper on things of which she got frequently irritated about it. The only thing that was great about being underage was that she couldn't really be thrown in jail.

Kaitlyn rolled her eyes when the man said that they had witnessed the ruckus. "Obviously otherwise we wouldn't have been called here." Kaitlyn scoffed. Kaitlyn observed the constable she was perplexed by the design on the ring but cataloged it away for later intrigue. The fact the man had something of a sun burn made Kaitlyn wonder what the man had been doing outside so much.

"Please, the only thing this man can do is figure his way around some wires and electrical quipment." Kaitlyn scoffed, she was acting of course. She didn't see why the man whom was the child of the Crestview. She had built on the man's designs and was appreciative of him. To get his child messed up on something that she was involved with seemed silly. "Of course you would like them to remain secret, anyone that had done something illegal would want that to be kept secret. I noticed your head was burnt from being outside too much, your feet are dirty from being in the mud. Seems like you have been some where you shouldn't have been." Kaitlyn smirked.

Vogen started to relax as Kaitlyn took the lead in talking to the constable, but that relaxation soon faded away as she began to talk back to the constable. Vogen's jaw dropped as she completely ignored the questions of the constable and began asking questions of her own. Vogen stirred a little with the reference to his father and the comparison made, he hated being compared to his father and he threw a vicious glare in Kaitlyn's direction.

The constable stood up and placed both hands on the table "You insubordinate little smart-a**" the constable growled "I'd throw you in a squad car for a free ride to the jail if I didn't know you would be out faster than I could pronounce the name 'Sherlock Holmes'." The constable said, giving a long sigh and sitting back down. "I was hoping for your cooperation but if I you are unwilling to give it then I guess I'll have to let you two go." He sighed. "Look, Vogen, it is Vogen right? if you remember anything or think about anything, you give me a call right away alright?" the constable handed him a slip of paper and tossing a glare in the girl's direction "That is my number, you call it day or night alright?".

Vogen nodded and took the paper and nodded at the constable. He placed the piece of paper in his pocket and shot a quick look at the girl, her eyes cut through him and he was forced to quickly look away.

"You two have a nice day, try not to tackle anyone else, Okay? Ms. Junior Detective?" the constable said, the words dripping with sarcasm. With a waive of his hand two officers entered the room and ushered the two out of the room.

Once outside, Vogen turned to Kaithlyn... "Just what the hell do you think you were doing in there? are you TRYING to get us expelled?" Vogen said, a hint of anger in his voice.

Kaitlyn smirked when she saw the man beside her look on in awe. It had yet to get old for her to see the amazement she had on people. She supposed they were amazed at the way she talked to them, she blamed it on her father, he never really had a way with talking nicely to people. Her dad had merely laughed when she had begun to talk back to her father.

Kaitlyn scoffed again when the man stood up and called her names. "Oh please do, Father loves it when that happens. Course dad isn't so pleased but Uncle is always there to get me out." Kaitlyn smirked she knew she had bested the constable at least today. She glared back when the constable handed the Vogen his card. She looked to the man unsure whether he would actually tell the constable what she had figured out. When the man looked away she almost felt as if the man was going to tell the constable.

"Expelled, please that man doesn't have enough power to expell us." Kaitlyn laughed. "I was doing my job, i'm the world second only consulting detective or I would be if I could get the police to listen to me for more than two seconds. Dull individuals cops can't get anything done 'round here."

Vogen pulled the Constable's card out of his pocket and dropped it to the ground, aiming for a patch of muddy grass to ensure that the card was properly soiled and lost. "Doing your job?" Vogen questioned, "Just what do you think your job is here?" Vogen chasized. "I was not aware there was a major for girls with delusions of grandeur!" Vogen huffed... Taking a breath Vogen turned to walk away... but somthing made him turn around and face the girl again.

"Why were you asking about his soiled shoes and sunburned scalp? Do you think the constable was involved in this in some way?" Vogen questioned, legitimate curiosity dripping from his words. " I swear i've seen that ring before... I just cant place it!

Kaitlyn watched as Vogen pulled the card from his pocket "Well its not really my job here, they don't like me interfering 'ere much at least that constable doesn't." Kaitlyn said with a sigh. "I told you I am the worlds second consulting detective." she said pointedly.

"I do not have a delusion of grandeur!" she exclaimed. "Isn't it obvious?" she questioned looking to Vogen again. "My goodness what goes on in your funny little mind. It must be quite relaxing being you. Of course hes involved, do you think he would really give a rats a** if he didn't have anything staked in this." she continued pacing softly. "You've seen that ring?" she questioned stopping in her tracks. "Think where have you seen that?" she questioned quickly.
