What The Humans Know...
- xXxOn July 23rd of 1998, a series of bizarre murders were occurring on the outskirts of Raccoon City with signs of cannibalism on the victims' remains. The Raccoon Police Department's Special Tactics And Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.), originally divided into Alpha Team and Bravo Team, were assigned to investigate these strange murders. Bravo Team, made up of Rebecca Chambers, Enrico Marini, Forest Speyer, Kenneth J. Sullivan and Richard Aiken, was sent in first. On the way to the scene, however, the team's helicopter was sabotaged and crash landed in the forest. The team discovered an overturned military police transport truck nearby and the mutilated corpses of two officers. After the team split up, field medic Rebecca Chambers found a zombie-infested train stopped in the middle of the forest. Weird, right? Well, after a little exploration, she teamed up with the former U.S. Marine Billy Coen, the man the military police were escorting to his execution, and the two explored the remaining train compartments while fighting zombies, swarms of strange leeches and a mutated scorpion. As the train started speeding out of control towards a cliff, the two managed to apply the brakes and divert the train's course towards an abandoned research and training center.
xXxThe pair investigated the underground facility, facing off against the Umbrella Corporation's experiments: mutated insects, spiders and primates. They soon discovered that the former operator of the facility, James Marcus, along with Ozwell E. Spencer and Edward Ashford, discovered the Progenitor virus, a strain of which causes rapid mutations when combined with the Ebola virus. Ashford originally wanted to use the virus to help the handicapped through its regenerative effects, but after his death, Spencer and Marcus began research on its applications for bio-weapons, combining it with leech DNA which eventually led to the formation of the infectious T-virus, causing the zombie outbreak. Weren't they intelligent? After a showdown with a gigantic bat inside a church, Billy was attacked by a T-virus infected primate and became lost inside an underground laboratory.
xXxAs Rebecca was searching for the convict, she met up with fellow Bravo Team member Enrico Marini. He told Rebecca about 'an old mansion which Umbrella uses for research' not far from the facility; the Spencer Estate. Rebecca declined Enrico's offer to follow him there, instead having decided to continue her search for Billy and eventually found him washed up on a walkway. After fighting the Tyrant together, the two eventually met James Marcus and discovered that he caused the outbreak. Marcus had operated the facility until his assassination by two of Umbrella's prominent scientists who were acting under Spencer's orders. Such great co-workers weren't they? During his final moments, his pet queen leech had entered his body and reproduced exponentially over ten years, absorbing his DNA and memories and bringing him back to life. Creepy much? Marcus proceeded to split into a mass of leeches before chasing Rebecca and Billy through the facility. As the Queen Leech, Rebecca, and Billy continued their fight, the facility's self-destruct mechanism was activated. After being injured due to a brief exposure to sunlight, the monster was paralyzed when the overhead entrance to the lab was opened just as the sun rose. Convenient much? Rebecca threw Billy a Magnum revolver and he delivered the final shot to the Queen Leech.
xXxWhile the facility crumbled to the ground, the two escaped into the forest and came to a halt on a cliff overlooking the Spencer Estate. They saluted each other after Rebecca declared Billy Coen "officially dead." Each went their own way, with Rebecca heading towards the mansion to investigate the whereabouts of Bravo team.
xXxNow after contact with Bravo Team was lost and after Rebecca Chamber's adventures with Billy Coen, Alpha Team, made up of Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Brad Vickers, Joseph Frost, Barry Burton and Albert Wesker, were sent to investigate their disappearance. They located Bravo Team's helicopter, but there were no signs of survivors; only a severed hand was found. While searching the area for further clues as to Bravo Team's whereabouts, Alpha Team was attacked by ferocious dogs, one of which killed Joseph Frost. Alpha's helicopter pilot, Brad Vickers, panicked and took off alone. Pursued by the dogs who killed off Joseph, Alpha Team was forced to seek refuge within a nearby mansion, which was believed to be abandoned; the Spencer Estate!
xXxWith the vicious zombified dogs roaming around outside, the four remaining members of Alpha team(Wesker, Chris, Jill and Barry) were trapped within the mansion. A gunshot rang out, and either Jill or Chris went to investigate in which one of the first discoveries is a member of Bravo team, Kenneth, being eaten by a zombie. While searching the mansion, they found the other members of Bravo Team ie Richard Aiken dying of poison, who gave them his radio before dying, Forest Speyer, found dead on the balcony and Enrico Marini, who revealed that one of the members of the team was a traitor before being shot and killed by an unseen attacker. They eventually found out thay the mansion was riddled with puzzles, traps, and horrors. Scattered documents around the estate suggested that a series of illegal experiments were being undertaken on the property by a clandestine research team, under the authority and supervision of the biomedical company Umbrella Corporation. The creatures roaming the mansion and surrounding region were the results of those experiments, which have exposed the mansion's personnel and various animals and insects to a highly contagious and mutagenic biological agent known as the T-virus.
xXxAfter having navigated a series of underground tunnels, passageways and buildings, the team members who've been investigating(Jill and Chris) discovered a secret underground laboratory containing the Umbrella Corporation's experiments, including the Tyrant. In the lab, it's learned that Wesker was the double agent working for Umbrella. Wesker was killed after that by one of the creations. Jill found Chris in a cell, put there by Wesker, and managed to get him out by activating the self-destruct system. The team of survivors from Alpha Team and Bravo Team headed for the heliport, but were separated due to more creatures. They got up to the heliport still and managed to contact Brad while meeting up with the other survivors there, but they were then attacked by the Tyrant, a giant humanoid monster created through prolonged exposure to the T-virus. After the Tyrant was defeated, the survivors managed to escape the premises in the Alpha Team helicopter, just as the entire facility and estate was destroyed by explosives through the self-destruct system activated earlier.
xXxAfter the earlier events, and sometime during it's release, nearly all of Raccoon cities citizens had been transformed into zombies by an outbreak of the T-virus, a new type of biological weapon secretly developed by the pharmaceutical company Umbrella. Leon S. Kennedy, a rookie police officer on his first day in the local force, and Claire Redfield, a college student looking for her brother Chris, just arrived in the city, and began making their way to the Raccoon Police Department, seeking protection from the mutated population. There, they discovered that most of the police officers had been killed already, and that Chris had left town to investigate the Umbrella headquarters in Europe. With no remaining motivation to stay, the two split up to look for other survivors and flee the city. While searching for an escape route, Claire met a little girl named Sherry, who was on the run from an unknown creature, and Leon encountered Ada Wong, who claimed to be looking for her boyfriend John, an Umbrella researcher.
xXxIt was soon revealed that Leon's superior officer, Raccoon City police chief Brian Irons, had been bribed by Umbrella to hide evidence of the company's experiments in the outskirts of the city. He also concealed their development of the new G-virus, an agent capable of mutating a human into the ultimate bioweapon. Irons tried to murder Claire, but was killed by a G-virus mutant in the police department. Thereupon, Claire and Sherry escaped through the sewers and became separated. After splitting up with Leon, Ada came upon Sherry, and picked up a golden pendant the girl lost while running away. Further into the sewers, Ada reluctantly teamed up with Leon again, after he insisted on his duty to protect her. They encountered a middle-aged woman who fired at Ada, but Leon dived between them and took the bullet himself. Ada ignored the unconscious Leon and followed the woman, who revealed herself to be Sherry's mother Annette and the wife of William Birkin, the Umbrella scientist who created the G-virus. In an attempt to protect his life's work from special agents sent by the Umbrella headquarters, he injected himself with the virus, which turned him into the malformed creature that was chasing Sherry. Annette recognized her daughter's pendant and attempted to take it from Ada. A fight ensued, during which Annette was thrown over a railing. Ada learned that the golden locket contained a sample of the G-virus, and later – taken over by her emotions – returned to Leon, tending to his bullet wound.
xXxMeanwhile, Claire was reunited with Sherry, and discovered that the mutated Birkin had implanted his daughter with an embryo to produce offspring. Leon, Ada, Claire and Sherry continued to advance through an abandoned factory connected to Umbrella's secret underground research facility. An attack by Birkin left Ada heavily wounded, and Leon explored the laboratory in order to find something to treat her wounds. He was interrupted by a psychotic Annette, who explains to him that Ada's relationship with John was only a means of getting information about Umbrella: Ada was a spy sent to steal the G-virus for an unknown organization. Just as Annette was about to shoot Leon, a Tyrant monster appeared and she was forced into retreating. Ada returned to save Leon, and defeated the Tyrant seemingly at the cost of her own life. Meanwhile, Annette tried to escape with another sample of the G-virus, but was fatally wounded by her mutated husband. Before she died, she told Claire how to create a vaccine that would stop the mutations caused by the embryo within Sherry. After preparing the cure, Leon and Claire reunited at an emergency escape train, and injected Sherry with the vaccine, which saved her life. William Birkin – now mutated into a large agglomeration of flesh and teeth – followed them, but was destroyed when a self-destruct system caused the train to explode. After escaping from the city with Sherry, Leon intended to take down Umbrella, while Claire continued to search for her brother. Ada was implied to have survived and made away with the G-virus in the pendant. There was, of course, another survivor who was one of the special agents sent in by Umbrella called Hunk in order to successfully retrieve the G-virus.
xXxOn September 28, 1998, former Special Tactics And Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.) member Jill Valentine attempted to escape a ruined and zombie-infested Raccoon City. On her way to the Raccoon City Police Department, she ran into fellow team member Brad Vickers, who is killed by the Nemesis, a bio-organic weapon, for being part of the S.T.A.R.S.; as the S.T.A.R.S. members were aware of Umbrella's unethical research, the company wanted to eliminate them as witnesses, stopping the survivors from continuing their investigation of the company. Later, she encountered three surviving members of the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service (U.B.C.S.): Carlos Oliviera, Mikhail Victor and Nicholai Ginovaef. Nicholai was soon presumed dead after an encounter with zombies. Mikhail sacrificed himself to save Jill and Carlos from the Nemesis. The cable car that the three were in bursted into flame and Jill and Carlos were then separated.
xXxJill and Carlos met up again a little later in a clock tower where Carlos had said a rescue helicopter would arrive. Jill summoned the helicopter by ringing the clock tower's bell, but the Nemesis destroyed the helicopter and infected Jill with the T-virus. Jill, however, temporarily defeated the Nemesis, Carlos found her in a state of weakness, and she blacked out. During said time, Carlos searched for the vaccine to Jill's infection.
xXxIn the early hours of October 1st, Carlos went to the Raccoon General Hospital to make the vaccine, and was able to create it. As he was leaving to go back to the clock tower, Nicholai set a time bomb at the base, and blew up the hospital. Carlos returned to Jill with the vaccine and then left. Jill then proceeded through the Raccoon City Park, where she eventually entered a cabin, found more about the plans for Raccoon City, and briefly met up with Nicholai, who explained the role he played; destroying the city and it's survivors. Leaving, Jill entered the cemetery again, only to face off with a giant worm, and defeated it before proceeding.
xXxJill met up with Carlos, again, in an Umbrella facility, who told her that the U.S. government planned a cover up and the U.S. military, after hearing of unsuccessful efforts to avert the T-virus infestation, ordered the destruction of Raccoon City by nuclear missile. Jill and Carlos split up, once again, to find a way out of the facility. Jill turned on the power so that an exit can be unlocked. While attempting to escape, she met up with Nicholai, yet again. He told her about how he killed the other Monitors, and how there was a bounty on Jill's head. She was also forced to face a mutated Nemesis and kill it with the assistance of a railgun. Jill then escaped Raccoon City along with Carlos. Yay, right? Kinda. The city was then destroyed by a nuclear missile.
xXxClaire Redfield tried raiding an Umbrella Corporation facility in Paris in search of her brother, Chris. During the infiltration she was captured and imprisoned on Rockfort Island. Soon after arriving, Umbrella security guard Rodrigo Juan Raval released her from her cell in the aftermath of a T-virus outbreak on the island. In the attempt to escape from the contaminated island, Claire teamed up with inmate Steve Burnside while also being confronted with the island's commander Alfred Ashford. Alfred Ashford was a highly unstable character who had developed two personalities; himself and his twin sister, Alexia. Meanwhile, Albert Wesker was on a mission of his own to retrieve a sample of the T-Veronica virus developed by Alexia. His unit was also responsible for the outbreak of the T-virus on Rockfort Island.
xXxAt one point during their escape, Steve and Claire were attacked by a zombie that was revealed to be Steve's father, a minor researcher who tried to sell information. He was found out and both Steve and his father were imprisoned, while Steve's mother was killed. Claire and Steve eventually escaped via plane, but Alfred, still under the delusion he was Alexia, set it to autopilot and flew both of them to another Umbrella facility in the Antarctic. There, Alfred hoped to free his sister from her 15-year-long cryogenic sleep she took after the injection of the T-Veronica virus, to counter the flaws of the virus. After another fight with Claire and Steve, Alfred was severely wounded and apparently fell to his death into a crevasse, stirring up a creature code-named 'Nosferatu', a creation of the T-Veronica virus. After fighting the creature, Claire and Steve attempted to escape the facility via a digger. Meanwhile Alfred, who miraculously survived the fall, limped over to Alexia. He witnessed her awakening moments before dying. Alexia, cradling her brother's corpse, summoned giant tentacles and crashes Claire's and Steve's digger, recapturing them.
xXxChris Redfield arrived on Rockfort after having been contacted by Leon S. Kennedy. He learned from Raval that Claire already escaped the island. Raval was soon killed afterwards by a giant worm. While searching Rockfort, Chris encountered Wesker, shocked to learn that Wesker had become faster and stronger than any normal person thanks to the Tyrant in the Spencer Estate. Just as Wesker was about to finish Chris off, Alexia appeared on a screen, laughing. Stunned by Alexia being alive, Wesker changed his mind and headed out to the Antarctic. Chris eventually found his way there and was reunited with Claire, who set out to find Steve. As she located him, she discovered Alexia conducted an experiment on him, injecting Steve with the T-Veronica virus. Steve mutated into a reptilian monster and tried to kill Claire who escaped to a prison cell, where she was attacked by another of Alexia's tentacles. Still in his mutated form, Steve broke through the cell and killed the tentacle. In retaliation, the tentacle drove itself into his chest and retreated. Steve reverts back to his human form and died before confessing his love for Claire. Claire, shocked and saddened by Steve's death, was left trapped in a cell.
xXxAt the same time, Chris and Wesker confronted Alexia, who had an ability of creating fire. Overwhelmed by her strength, Wesker escaped and left Chris to fight her. Chris temporarily defeated Alexia and activated the facility's self-destruct system to release all locks, freeing Claire from the prison cell. Later on, as he tried to escape, Alexia confronted him a second time while mutating even further into an insectile form. This time, Chris managed to destroy her for real with a plasma-based weapon. With Alexia dead-dead, Chris ran to the emergency elevator and caught a glimpse of Wesker, whose men also retrieved Steve's body to use for further experimentation as he was the only intact subject injected with a sample of the T-Veronica virus. Chris convinced Wesker to release Claire, who then ran to the plane to wait for her brother. Chris was, as is completely obvious, overwhelmed by Wesker in another fight, but before Wesker could kill Chris, another failed attempt, both were separated by an explosion. Wesker vowed to satisfy his desire for revenge the next time they met while Chris reunited with Claire and both set off just as the whole facility blew up. As they flew off, Chris swore that they would take down Umbrella.
xXxSix years after the destruction of Raccoon City, Leon S. Kennedy was sent on a mission to rescue Ashley Graham, the President's daughter, who had been kidnapped by a mysterious cult. He traveled to a rural village in Europe, where he encountered a group of violent villagers who pledged their lives to Los Illuminados, or "The Enlightened Ones", the cult that kidnapped Ashley.
xXxWhile in the village, Leon was captured by it's chief, Bitores Mendez, and injected with a mind-controlling parasite known as Las Plagas. He found himself held captive and tied up back to back with Luis Sera, a former Los Illuminados researcher. The two worked together to escape, but quickly went their separate ways afterwards. Leon discovered that Ashley was being held in a chapel, and rescued her. They both escaped from the chapel after Osmund Saddler, leader of the Illuminados, revealed his plans to use the Plagas they injected into Ashley to cause a disaster in the United States once she was back. Leon and Ashley tried to take refuge inside the castle of Ramon Salazar, a servant of Saddler, but were attacked by more Illuminados. The two were soon separated from each other by Salazar's traps. Meanwhile, Sera searched for the pills to slow Leon's and Ashley's infection, and then to bring a Plagas sample. He brought the two items to Leon but was then killed by Saddler, who took the sample, while the pills to suppress the infection remained in Leon's hands. While in the castle, Leon briefly encountered Ada Wong, again, who supports him through his mission. He then battled his way through the castle until he finally killed Salazar. Leon learned that Ashley had been taken to a nearby island research facility, yet again, and went off to find her.
xXxLeon later learned that one of his former comrades from the years he was training, Jack Krauser, was alive and responsible for Ashley's kidnapping. Both Ada and Krauser were actually working together for a third party related with Umbrella, and that Krauser intended to kill Saddler when he got the chance. Saddler knew this, and he ordered Krauser to kill Leon, knowing that no matter which one died, he would benefit. After Krauser'd been defeated, Leon rescued Ashley, and they removed the Plagas from their bodies by using a specialized radiotherapeutic device. Leon confronted Saddler after seeing Ada as his hostage and with Ada's help, Leon killed Saddler... And then Ada ran off with the sample, escaping from the complex in a helicopter and leaving Leon and Ashley to escape via her jet-ski as the island exploded.
xXxFive years after Leon rescued Ashley Graham, Chris Redfield, a former S.T.A.R.S. member and now part of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance(B.S.A.A.), was dispatched to Kijuju, Africa to work with Sheva Alomar to apprehend Ricardo Irving before he could sell a bio-organic weapon(B.O.W.) on the black market. Upon arriving, they discovered the locals had been converted by parasites into Majini, and that the members of the B.S.A.A.'s Alpha Team had been killed already. Chris and Sheva were rescued by B.S.A.A.'s Delta Team, whose membership included Sheva's mentor Josh Stone. In the data provided by Josh, Chris saw a photograph of Jill Valentine, his old partner, presumed dead after a confrontation with Albert Wesker. Chris, Sheva, and the Delta Team closed in on Irving, but he managed to escape with the help of a hooded figure, leaving behind documents that led Chris and Sheva to oil fields in the marshlands where Irving's deal was to occur. They soon discovered this was a diversion created by Irving to allow the deal to take place. Chris and Sheva attempted to regroup with Delta team, but at the rendezvous, find the team slaughtered by a B.O.W. but Sheva couldn't find Josh among the bodies. Chris refused to report to headquarters, revealing his determination to learn if Jill is still alive.
xXxHaving continued through the marshlands, they found Josh injured but safe, and, with his help, tracked down Irving's boat. Irving injected himself with a variant of the parasite, Las Plagas, and mutated into a colossal octopus-like beast. Chris and Sheva defeated him, and with his dying words, directed the pair to a nearby cave to learn more. The cave, home of the Ndipaya tribe, was the source of the flower used to create the Progenitor virus, which led to the creation of the T- and G-viruses, and had been used to form a new, incredibly powerful strain called Uroboros. Chris and Sheva found evidence that Tricell, the company funding the B.S.A.A., had taken over a former Umbrella underground laboratory and continued Umbrella's research. In the facility were thousands of capsules holding human test subjects. Chris discovered that one of the capsules belonged to Jill, but when they searched it, they found the capsule empty. As they left, they discovered that the Tricell agent Excella Gionne had been plotting with Wesker to unleash a number of missiles with the Uroboros virus across the globe. It was later revealed that Wesker hoped to sort out a chosen few from the chaos of infection and rule over them, thus creating his own new breed of humanity. Chris and Sheva pursued Excella, but were stopped by Wesker and the hooded figure, later revealed to be Jill, enslaved by a mind-control device on her chest. Excella and Wesker escaped to a Tricell oil tanker while Chris and Sheva fought Jill, eventually subduing her and removing the device from her chest. After a brief reunion, Jill ordered Chris to follow Wesker.
xXxAs Chris and Sheva made their way aboard the tanker, they came across Excella, who escaped, but dropped a case of syringes. Sheva held on to a number of them just in case. When Chris and Sheva arrived on the main deck of the tanker, Wesker, through the tanker's intercom, revealed he had betrayed and infected Excella with Uroboros. She mutated into a giant monster which Chris and Sheva defeated a little while later. Jill radiod in and informed Chris and Sheva that Wesker must regularly take precisely measured doses of a virus to maintain his superhuman strength and speed; a larger or smaller dose would act as poison for him. Sheva then realized the syringes she recovered from Excella are doses of that drug. Chris and Sheva followed Wesker to a bomber aboard the tanker loaded with missiles containing the Uroboros virus. The two were able to subdue Wesker long enough to inject him with additional doses after a little bit of a struggle. Wesker attempted to escape on the bomber, but was followed by Chris and Sheva who disabled the bomber, causing it to crash land in a volcano. An enraged Wesker exposed himself to Uroboros, and pursued Chris and Sheva through the volcano. Chris and Sheva fought and weakened Wesker to the point where he fell into the lava in which they were then rescued by a helicopter piloted by Jill and Josh. In his dying breaths, Wesker attempted to drag the helicopter into the volcano, but Chris and Sheva killed him with rocket-propelled grenades, before he was able to do so. In their trip away from the volcano, Chris pondered whether it was truly worth fighting to preserve what was left of humanity and having briefly glanced at Sheva and Jill, decided that it is worth it in order to live in a world without fear.
xXxIn 2013, U.S. President Adam Benford had decided to officially reveal the truth behind the 1998 Raccoon City incident, believing that it would curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity. By the President’s side was his personal friend, Division of Security Operations (D.S.O.) agent, and Raccoon City survivor Leon S. Kennedy and United States Secret Service agent Helena Harper; but when the venue became host to another bioterrorist attack, Leon was forced to face the infected and mutated President, making the hardest decision in his life. Meanwhile, in the state of Edonia, an Eastern European state, Edonian Liberation Army mercenary Jake Muller, the son of the belated bio-terrorist Albert Wesker, fleed from the authorities during a bioterrorist attack. During Jake's adventure, he partnered up with D.S.O. agent and Raccoon City survivor Sherry Birkin. At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (B.S.A.A.) Captain Chris Redfield and his team, including Piers Nivans, arrived in the city of Lanshiang, China as it was under threat of a bioterrorist attack. With no country, no place whatsoever, safe from the attacks and ensuing outbreaks, the entire world’s population was united by a common fear: there may be no hope left.
