It was early in the morning and the sun was rising but underneath a lone tree in the savanna, a brightly colored lioness was curled up, sleeping peacefully. Everything around her seemed brighter and greener than the rest of the landscape and the effect intensified as the sunlight found her. She began to stir shortly after the sun rose but she seemed in no hurry to wake.

Maua liked to stay near the mortal world where everything was always growing and changing, where the sun shone and there were trees and flowers and birds. The God Haven was beautiful but it was cold and colorless and the goddess of spring could only take it in small doses. She was happily oblivious to any dangers around her and made no effort to protect her identity- though without wings she was harder to pick out than some gods. If she didn't love the morning, she could easily have slept comfortably until late in the day.

Aina found herself drifting. After the her last encounter with someone whom she'd seen as a ghost, she had gotten a bit more reticent. Not too much more, but the cheeton didn't like to admit that the purple lion might have tried to kill her. It was a shame, but that was life, she supposed.

But something caught her eye now. Not a ghost either, which was strange. A lioness, reclining under a tree. She was...brighter...somehow than the world around her. And Aina'nusu saw her overlaid with herself, which the Seer had never seen before on any creature.

Lionesses weren't usually as aggressive as lions. So she should be fine talking to this one!

"Hi there!" the black and tan cheeton called out as she made her way over.

Hi there!

It wasn't rare that a voice woke her but it was normally the birds, and normally a song. Her pale eyes opened before her head raised and she blinked a few times before she realized what she was seeing. It was a disappointingly dark coated feline but she seemed perfectly friendly at a glance.

"Good morning!" she responded after taking a few quiet seconds to make her assessment, pushing herself up to her feet and shaking herself off. It took some extra effort to get her braid sorted out.
PostPosted: Wed Sep 12, 2012 3:24 pm

The cheeton might not have noticed the braid if not for the fact that the lioness had to fiddle with it for several moments before she was pleased with its positioning and drape. Actually, Aina had never seen a lioness with a braid before, or even with a mane long enough to braid. She couldn't help staring at it.

"Your hair is so lovely! I've never seen anyone with a mane as long as yours, or so prettily decorated!" Just because the pink and yellow lioness hadn't spoken yet was no reason for her to be rude! So Aina'nusu would go on chattering happily.

"I see you're also brighter than anyone else I've ever met before, as if you're more there than they are. I've seen people and I've seen ghosts but never so strongly as with you, and your ghost is...you!"

Clearly she still hadn't learned that explaining her extra sight to people was a good idea. Two steps forward and one step back.

Maua couldn't help but giggle at the way the creature went on and on, especially since she was offering such lovely compliments. She couldn't help but toss her mane a bit, nearly unsettling her braid in the process. The ghost remark was particularly confusing but she knew that wasn't necessarily the best place to start jumping into this conversation.

"I'm not sure I understand what you mean exactly but thank you!" she said, smiling sweetly, "What's your name?"
PostPosted: Wed Sep 12, 2012 3:36 pm

"Oh, I'm sorry!" the cheeton was contrite. Here this nice lioness was being perfectly civil and she'd completely forgotten to introduce herself! "My name is Aina'nusu, what about yours?"

She considered the other's words and added "And don't worry, most people don't seem to pay attention to most of what I say when I talk about the ghosts." It was certainly true. Yes, some people stopped and noticed that she must be a Seer, but this was a fact Aina never saw any reason to share. What difference could it make anyway?

"Pleased to meet you, Aina'nusu," she said politely, "I'm Maua." It never crossed her mind to admit that she was a goddess, even with the observations of her unusual appearance and presence. Another benefit of not having wings. Maua had enough interactions with oblivious mortals to counter the interactions with stunned mortals who did learn her nature, it didn't seem particularly important.

"I'm very curious about the ghosts, what did you mean my- my ghost is me?"

Was that what she had said?

"Maua, that's a pretty name!" It was similar to names she'd heard before and yet had a different flavor. Aina approved. And she wanted to know about the ghosts, that was wonderful!

"Well, they're everywhere, but especially strong when the person was very intent on what they were doing, whether it was good or bad, or they were angry or happy or sad or focused on hunting or whatever. But I've never seen your ghost anywhere yet I see it right with you! As if you are here and yet with the ghosts. That's very different - how do you do it?"

This would probably be slightly more legibly spoken if the cheeton remembered to breathe in between sentences or the like.

Though she tried very hard to keep up with what Aina said when she tried to explain the ghosts, she was terribly confused by the end of everything she said- and it showed. Aina was, evidently, more unusual than she even first appeared- Maua still wasn't quite sure what she was.

"Ummm," she hesitated, "Maybe because I'm a god?"

It was the only unusual thing about herself she could suggest, though she wasn't sure she'd ever met a mortal that could pick out gods by some kind of ghostly vision. Or any vision, really, unless there were obvious signs showing like wings or horns or.. extra eyes or .. whatever other gods had.

"Have you ever met a god before?"
PostPosted: Wed Sep 12, 2012 4:50 pm

Gold eyes opened wide at that. A goddess? Really? She'd never heard of anyone who'd met a god of any kind! That made all the sense in the world though!

"No, I've never met any kind of god before, but that's awesome! You're a goddess! A real live goddess! Of course that must be why you're more here and there than anyone else I've ever seen before because I've never met a god before! Oh, how wonderful!"

At least, she thought it was a good thing. Maybe some kind of good luck!

She beamed at the excited reaction this confession got from Aina. Maua only ever really encountered two kinds of reactions: excitement and doubt. Apparently whatever strangeness Aina'nusu saw in her was enough to remove all doubt.

"I still don't understand but I'm happy that explains that," she said, stifling most of another laugh. She wanted to ask more questions, figure out what Aina saw exactly but she didn't know the best way to ask. Maua wasn't normally so at a loss with mortals.

Maua the goddess looked much prettier (not that she was ugly or plain before!) when she was smiling like that. It was a beautiful smile and it made Aina grin back at the lioness.

"Oh yes, it explains everything!" the cheeton agreed. At least, it explained everything to her. And for all she was a Seer, she wasn't particularly good at remembering that no one else saw things the way she did, or at remembering that she should explain in more detail what she saw if she wanted others to understand.

Perhaps she didn't like repeating herself every time she met someone new. It certainly got boring very quickly.

If it explained everything, Maua decided it was time to change the subject rather than ask questions she had no idea how to word well enough to get any understanding of what Aina saw.

"Do you want to see a trick?" she asked suddenly, going with the other subject that had come up- her divinity. Despite her natural mortal-camouflage, Maua was good with illusions. It was an easy way to support her divine claim and a fun way to entertain mortals, it had always been especially fun with her own cubs.

"Oh yes, I'd love to see a trick!" Aina agreed quickly. She'd have even offered to do one in return...if she knew any tricks. This was likely a reflection on the fact that firstly, the cheeton's only real ability wasn't something she could share and secondly, that she was far too open and innocnent to conceive of a way to deceive anyone.

The first part in particular was hard, as it had taken a young Aina'nusu quite some time to learn that no one else she'd ever met in her life saw the world in quite the same way she did.

Beaming, Maua skipped a couple steps back to make sure there was some room between them. Scrunching up her nose, more for show than anything, she looked down to the grass to watch as many colorful wildflowers blossomed around their feet. When she looked up to Aina with a grin, she was very careful not to move, lest she break the illusion by showing how easily a paw could pass through them. The illusion did not spread out far beyond the pair of them, though it seemed to creep slowly outward as smaller flowers began to pop up at the edges of the bright spot the goddess created.

It wasn't much but who didn't love flowers? Maua definitely did.
