Meztli settled into her favorite sky watching spot. It was a high branch, away from the areas that most of the People tended to settle in, and thus often quieter. There was no concern of other lights approaching, generally. Eleuia was, as usual, settled on a small branch right next to her, singing softly as she set out the dried leaves she used to make notes on, and the black dye she used to do so. It was earlier then she usually came up here, as she'd noticed that the Evening Star had been showing up earlier lately, and she had speculated that tonight, it might even show before the sun had set. If not, it would surely be not long after, and she wanted to see, and note, how early this occured. She had a small pack with food, both for her and Ele, so that she need not head back to her home, or the markets, until she was done for the evening. After several minutes of fidgeting to get everything in the right place, she settled back, pulling out the thin bone-brush she used for drawing with, and murmured "Ele... that tune I like to hear when I want to meditate, please, perhaps?" She had gotten him to a point where she could request certain songs, and he'd do them. He didn't talk much, at least not yet, but he did know this, and so he changed tune, as she waited the arrival of the Evening Star.

Tomte didn't go out in the evening very much, much preferring to stay inside and meditate before bed. However, every once in a while it was good for a change of pace, and tonight was one of those evenings. Recently, the female monk had found herself cooped up in one of the various huts in the Grandmother Tree, pouring over spiritual tomes while listening to the sweet melodies of her Bird of Paradise companion, Nisat. Reading was all well and good, but Tomte found herself more tired than usual on that particular evening. It was hard to focus on the words of the books to study, and she even found herself only half paying attention to Nisat. Due to this, the monk decided it was time to try something new. She would take her bird and relax under the stars for the evening, meditating under their twinkling lights on the top most branches.
"Come along, Nisat," the monk said gently, her voice soft. Tomte never really needed to force her companion to do much of anything. Nisat was a loyal companion, not to mention very easy going and sweet. She liked to get out like this with her owner, as such outings were sadly few and far between. Perhaps they would go on them more? The Bird of Paradise flew along through the branches gracefully, while Tomte climbed her way up without saying a word. Eventually, the monk reached a decent spot to sit underneath the stars, and nodded to herself contently. This would be a goo spot. As she got comfortable, Nisat swooped down and settled in next to her owner upon the branch.
Initially, Tomte thought the two of them were the only one's in the tree, but she was wrong. She was alerted of this when Nisat gave a whispy 'coo', ruffling the feathers of her wings ever-so-slightly. The Bird of Paradise had seen Meztli and Eleuia a few branches away, and trilled quietly to alert the monk that they weren't the only ones. It looked as if they would be sharing the tree under the stars tonight.

Meztli was leaning forwards, watching the horizon eagerly. The sun was moving ever lower, and she was sure that the Evening Star would appear any moment now. Her brush was gripped in her hand, and she gave a soft 'AH!' when she spotted it. She quickly made notes on where, how, and at what angle to the sun it was, in her careful writing. She'd just finished up her notations when she heard, just slightly under Ele's song, the sound of another Bird of Paradise. This caused her to look up, and around, trying to spot the other Bird, curious who else was so lucky as to have one around here.
After several moments of searching, she spotted the dark brown-grey monkey nearby. She tilted her head, as she was not familiar with this Person, and studied her, and her Bird. After a moment, she gave a small, polite wave to indicate she had noticed them, and if they wished, could come and talk. She was used to people seeking her out up here, some nights, to see if she'd tell them tales of the stars she'd been studying. She had no idea if this Person was here for that... Or a fellow who wished to learn what the Goddess said through Her stars.

Nisat's soft cooing had caught her Person's attention. Tomte blinked, alerted by the noise, only to meet eye to eye with Meztli. She said nothing to the other lemur at first and just studied her quietly. Meztli had black fur stripped with white and startling blue eyes, not to mention red paint on her face and light purple paint on her hands. The blue eyes that Meztli had would have been surprising enough, but there was more. Like Tomte herself, this other Person also had a Bird of Paradise for a companion, an extraordinary achievement. Not many of the People had claim to such a feat, let alone religious folk like them.
Meztli waved to the two of them when she noticed them, and in return Tomte gave a nod of her head in response. It was a small, polite gesture, but acknowledgement none the less. Not wanting to be rude, the brown lemur then offered along some words to go along with that as she shifted on her branch. "Good evening," she said, a hand reaching out to pet Nisat as thanks for alerting her. The Bird of Paradise preened at hand of her Person, only to nuzzle it affectionately. "Nisat and I didn't expect to find others here. Though, perhaps it's a more popular spot for meditation than I thought. The Goddess smiles upon us and our meeting." Everything happened for a reason, Tomte thought. The Gods must have destined for the two of them to meet one another.

"Good evening." Meztli paused a moment, glanced at the changing position of the Evening star, made a note, then looked back at the other again. "Not really, not so much. I come up here many an evening, but usually I am alone. Eleuia and I keep each other company as I learn the stories of the stars." She smiles a little at Nisat's preening, and then, since Ele bumped her hand imperiously, proceeds to give her Bird a gentle scratching along his head and neck. "I am Meztli Ixchel, mystic and studier of the stars. I search them for their ancient tales." She offered her name and her specialty as a gift, to see who and what they could learn from one another.
As she spoke, she continued to glance up, and back, keeping an eye on the positions of the sun and the star she was intent on. The changing colors around the star, it's visibility... All of that was important to her. She was sure she could learn something of the story of the Evening Star this way. It was SO similar to the Dawn Star, she was sure they were connected! She just had to figure out how!
