Summer was just about over and Autumn was going to begin soon. It felt like it had been spring such a long time ago, but now they were almost halfway there again. It was always a bit amazing how quickly the weather and seasons changed, and how different they each were. It was like each season had it's own persona and in the way the heat or cold, rain, snow or sunshine appeared was like a glimpse into that seasons mood.

No matter how the seasons kept on changing, Nua always enjoyed watching each of them. Her thick coat kept her warm in the winters and her pale green coat allowed her to absorb less sunshine in the summer, effectively keeping her cool. But besides that, there were always amazing celebrations going on. That's why she loved the Sikukuu pride; there was always a party going on somewhere.

Jacundi thought it was high time he made a visit to the pebbly stretches of riverbed. With autumn coming, the waters soon would become icy cold, and not be pleasant at all to hunt in. So it was that he was strolling along, hopping occasionally in time to the tune he was humming merrily. He was one of those industrious souls who always set up a booth at each and every celebration in order to barter his trinkets to others. It was only during his own clan's festivals that he would give the baubles away for free as prizes for games he invented. It was a wonderful life, and he relished in it.

He passed nearby where Nua rested, an empty bag swinging loosely from his neck. "Ah, and good morning to you, Nua!" he called brightly upon noticing his fellow Demani. "Are you busy this morning, or would you be willing to come help me?" He skipped a step or two and came to her side, ears pricked high with his good humor.

Nua's earks perked and she turned her head upon hearing her fellow Demani, a Hyena, approach. She offered a smile and rose to her feet to greet him. "Hello Jacundi." She repayed his greeting, dipping her head politely. She eyed the bag around his neck and tilted her head at his question. Jacundi was known for his booths and baubles by many of the Sikukuu and Nua herself was always happy to try and win or buy some from time to time.

"I am not busy at all. How can I help you?" She asked, glad to have something to do today besides laze about and do nothing. Not that she minded resting a bit, but she didn't set up booths, or create games for the celebrations, she mostly just participated and greeted visitors, glad to introduce any rogues or other visitors to the Sikukuu celebrations and events.

His rather bushy, if short, tail waved behind him happily. "I'll be kept busy for the next few weeks by finding things to give to Joodi, my chimp friend, so that I can stock up for the winter with lovely things for all my friends." It was also well-known that Jacundi gave copious gifts for the biggest of the Mrao celebrations. His eyes sparkled as he spoke of such gifts, for he loved to expand his gift pool every year. Nua was most definitely going to be on that list if she helped him gather pretties right now.

"I'm headed for the river, while the water is still merely cool rather than freezing," he informed her, lifting a paw to the empty bag. "Often I can find the prettiest of stones and suchlike in or near the river. However, two sets of eyes are better than one, and company is gladly welcomed." His tongue lolled in a genuine grin, for company was welcome anytime, not just when work was to be done. "If you don't mind getting your paws wet, we could search to see what treasures the river has brought us over the summer!"

Nua's ears perked as he explained that he was stocking up on gifts for the big Mrao celebration. She nodded as she listened, knowing full well he was very known for his lovely gifts that time of year. She got a little excited hearing she would be helping him find treasures for the gift giving. It was always fun to see the sorts of things Jacundi picked out to give to people, and now if she helped, she was certain she might even get on that lift of recipients for the pretties they'd find. It was all very exciting business.

Nua's own tail swished happily as she nodded with enthusiasm. "I would love to help! And I don't mind wet paws at all." She told him with a genuine tone. Indeed, she didn't mind being wet so long as it wasn't freezing water. "I wonder what sort of things the river has swept down to us this season." She thought out loud, wondering what shiny stones, baubles or even shells and other things might be glistening in the river bank today, just waiting to be plucked.

Your Hyena reminds me of Bilbo in The Fellowship of the Ring with his gidt collecting and such. xD

"Come and help, then!" He bounced in place for a moment and then went bounding a few steps towards the river before settling into a trot. It wasn't long before he was wading into the slower running part of the river. The bottom beneath his paws was a bit treacherous, as the rounded, smoothed pebbles and rocks rolled easily, but the water was crystal clear. He removed the bag from his neck and tossed it onto a grassy bank. "We can make a pile there, and put the smaller things on the bag so they are not lost," he told his helper.

Then he got down to work. For all his joviality, Jacundi was a hard worker, as was his primate companion. Now that it came down to business, he practically stuck his nose into the water to peer at the rocks beneath his paws. Almost at once he pulled forth a small, smooth, unevenly shaped rock that was a rich burgundy in color, with tiny veins of brilliant yellow tracing paths across it. "Ah, now here is something!" It was about the size of a pawpad of a half-grown hyena, so he set it gently on the bag before wading back out again to search further. "Are you finding anything yet, Nua?"

Nua'Soal skipped off after the bouncing hyena and as they reached the water she carefully stepped into the slow moving river a few paces down stream from Jacundi. She slowly began to make her way back and forth, using her paws to move rocks around and looking for anything shiny. Once or twice she stuck her nose into the water and nipped at small stones, pulling them up and setting them on the bank to get a better look.

A few o the shinies she had found ended up being just a few small pebbles that caught the sunlight the right way, so she ended pushing them back into the water and searching again. She grew excited as she found something that wasn't a pebble though. "Oh! I found something!" She said happily as she set the thing on the bank and peered at it proudly; it seemed to be a crudley made silver bracelet with a few small blue gems stuck into the metal. "It's a bracelet, looks like it could fit a younger lion or another smaller feline." She stated proudly, tail wagging in pride at her find. IT needed a good scrub to get the murky dirt off, but it looked like it had potential to be a lovely gift.

The hyena waded through the cool water to see what had excited the wild dog so. He peered past her at the grassy bank, and was astonished as she declared what it was. A bracelet? "Why, look at that!" he exclaimed. "Rare it is for the river to give forth such treasure as that!" He beamed at her in delight and praise. "You should come help me more often! Well could I do with such a pretty thing more often!" That would make a fine gift this winter for any number of the Sikukuu currently. He would probably hold it back in reserve, and offer it to those he knew had the perfect individual to gift it to. Likely he wouldn't even charge for it. Too fine a thing it was to profit much from.

Back he waded into the river, humming a merry tune. What else would the river bring to them today? Soon after, he himself found a raw, golden nugget, clusters of the metal jagged and lumpy. It was unlovely to some eyes, but he knew how to change that. No, not in the ways of foreign men, but more as one of the native tribes might. Yes, that too could end up a very lovely object! The next few hours were spent exploring further and further down the river, finding mostly beautiful stones, tumbled smooth by the river's current. He was beginning to feel rather waterlogged when he found his final item of the day.

Caught in the mud between two large boulders, a tiny flash of white caught his eye. It required him to stick his head under the water and carefully worry away at the spot with his teeth, to ensure he didn't lose the small thing in the mud-obscured water. It eventually came loose, and he padded back upstream to spit it out of his mouth onto a large, flat leaf he'd been using to clean up the smaller objects. A mouthful of water washed the mud away, revealing a tiny curled seashell, amazing in its minicule perfection. It was white and deep blue, a delicate pattern tracing across the tiny surface. "Why, come look at this, Nua!" he called. "It's about time to stop anyway. We can always continue tomorrow, if need be."

Nua continued to help the Hyena pick pretty stones and other random shinies out of the riverbed. She had an eye for the sparkling and glinting little pebbles and had managed to find a few interesting looking ones in her time helping her new friend. The finding was the fun of it, even if a few things she had spotted under the whooshing waters were really nothing and ended up back in the water, she had found a few things he had seemed to appreciate. She felt satisfied, even with her small contributions and then the one bigger one she had managed to spot under the mud.

Her fur was dark and soaked in the water, her paws and muzzle stained a light brown from the mud in the riverbed. His tune kept her perky and happy though, the light humming he did giving her a bit of extra energy as she skipped, jumped and waded through the water, pushing mud around an dlooing for anything he might like to gift or sell during an event or celebration.

As he called her, she skipped merrily over to him and peered down at the sea shell, awed by the unique thing. She had seen shells before, but not many, and this one in particular was very lovely. "That is a lucky find indeed!" She chirped at him happily as her tail lifted and wagged in excitement. They had really found a good lot of gifts for him, and Nua was proud she had helped. "Alright! Well, if you need me to help tomorrow just come looking for me. I'm not too hard to find." She grinned.

He ducked his head a bit, letting his forelock fall over his eyes to protect them from the flying water from the eager wild dog's tail. One thing he could say for Nua, she was very energetic! It had been a very pleasant day, and surveying the pile of pretty things they'd dredged from the river, it had also been a hugely productive one, much moreso than he'd anticipated. He tipped his head, expressive ears indicating pleasure and satisfaction. "With this kind of result, I don't think we'll need to, actually," he admitted cheerfully. "I'll have plenty enough for my paws to do to get these ready for others to enjoy!

Yes indeed, he already saw a smattering of stones that would look lovely in a clay neckpiece! A little river clay, water, some rock dust, and some clever paw-work shaping it and setting the stones, then several days in the still-hot sun, and another work of art would be born! He was already muttering softly to himself about what stones would look best against the pale grey of the river clay. "In fact, I could use some grass along the back to give it strength," he murmured as he scooped the stones and pretties into the pouch. He waved a paw to Nua. "Good eve to you! Until we next meet!" And with that, off he went, still mumbling to himself about his many ideas.
