Art U Make wasn’t one of the stores that Arian tended to frequent a lot as unlike the Garden and Sparklespot (which specialised in just beads), the square store with the white roof specialised in selling a variety of different art making and hobby craft materials to the general public. The store did however have a small section devoted to a selection of beads, which could be found behind the paper craft section and the dark-haired teen had been known to occasionally browse through them.

Like today – well actually truth be told – Arian had actually been intending to visit the Garden, but there had been a sign on the door saying that it was closed over the next two days due to a family emergency. The dark-haired teen had been passing Art U Make on the way over to Sparklespot and had decided on impulse to have a look in Art U Make and have a rummage through their bead section.

Needless to say, it had been a stressful year. When Natalia had woken up from what could have been a bad dream, she had discovered instead that she had lost 6 months of her life. Her mother had wanted to send her to therapy, but with the amount of stress created by her brother the family had decided against it. Not only had Natalia missed the end of her senior year but she had also missed the debate team finale and Natalia was convinced that because she wasn’t there, her team had lost for the first time in her four years at the school. Her new school wasn’t bad per se but she didn’t fit in as well as she did in her little niche in her old school.

Her school and home life were not the only things to suffer, her LARP group was disbanded when half of the members had disappeared, so now she was diving into her only other hobby left to her, making costumes and jewelry. It was with a mostly heavy heart that she made her way into the Art U Make store. Most of her old things had been thrown away or put into storage so she decided to make herself feel better by making an entirely new costume, hoping that in doing so she could keep her mind off of the weirdness that had happened those months prior.

Natalia first made her way to the fabric section perusing the selection with a frown on her face, it was nothing compared to what she used to have and this visit was becoming increasingly more depressing, which conflicted with her normally cheery and energetic disposition.

With a sigh she replaced the bolt of cloth she was examining and made her way to the bead section. Natalia needed to replace her whole stock, including the tools used for the trade. Her thoughts were elsewhere as she ambled along the aisles and almost absently placed materials into her little blue basket, muttering about her mother practically giving all of her stuff away at a garage sale.

The bead selection wasn’t great – Arian had known that he’d need to go to somewhere like the Garen if he really wanted the variety, however the dark-haired teen had managed to bag some pretty patterned wooden beads, and some shimmery looking dark grey beads which would probably go well with some of the gemstones he had back at home.

It seemed like he wasn’t the only person who’d decided to have a rummage in the Art U Make’s bead section, there was a brown-haired girl there too bagging up some of the beads near a set of glass beads in the shape of small fishes. As he drifting towards them to take a closer a look, he gave the slightly taller girl a friendly smile and a quiet “Afternoon.”

The quiet voice was enough to startle Natalia in the current state she was in; she jumped lightly and dropped a bag of onyx beads. With a small flush in her cheeks she bent down to recover them. “Ah… Sorry guess I wasn’t paying attention…” She apologized before turning back to the racks.

Natalia spotted a few spools of leather cord and had to stand on her tip toes to reach them, however she managed to claim them without falling or dropping anything on herself which was always a plus. She glanced at the boy out of the corner of her eyes, it seemed like an odd hobby for a boy to have, but then again she knew some pretty strange guys from the LARP she used to be in, and even stranger ones in the rival fantasy LARP groups.

Clearing her throat she decided to talk to him, after all if he had a similar interest that would at least be one person she could talk to. While Natalia was a pretty self-sufficient person she missed having people to hang out with and groups to be a part of.

“Have you seen any looping pliers on that side?” She questioned quietly, glancing over at him with an attempt at a friendly smile. ‘Yeah. Reaaaal smooth’ she thought with an internal sigh.

“That’s okay” Arian replied his voice still quiet, then again Arian wasn’t a particularly loud person. “Would you…” He’d been about to ask the girl if she wanted a hand picking up the spilt beads, but she’d already started to gather them up before he could get the words out.

It had seemed that their brief conversation was over, so Arian had been about to have a look at those fish-shaped beads that had caught his eye, the dark-haired teen was therefore a little startled when he’d heard her clear her throat, although it wasn’t an unpleasant startlement.

“They had a few different pliers over there, a couple of different cutters too but they weren’t anything special.” Just the bare basics really, not anything that the dark-haired teen would consider shelling money out on. He gave her a friendly, if curious look in return “What do you need one for? You'd probably be better off getting one from one of the bead shops – like Sparklespot.”

“Damn…” Natalia muttered under her breath then looked up at the boy. “Sorry, excuse my language, but I used to have a really awesome set of supplies and tools… unfortunately they were all either thrown away or sold so now I’m back to square one.” Natalia ran her fingers through her hair as she looked at the tiny selection at the store and felt overwhelmed with annoyance.

“I was going to start working on a new costume, and I figure with Halloween coming up some stores would have better selections… Silly me.” She forced a smile as she looked at Arian again.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever been there before, where is Sparklespot?” Natalia questioned in a pleasant tone of voice that did not betray the annoyance she felt at the situation.

Arian gave the girl a sympathetic look as she mentioned what sounded to be a pretty sucky situation. The dark-haired teen knew how gutted he’d feel if he’d found out that someone had sold or given away his tools. He listened in interest as she mentioned working on a costume for Halloween “That sounds pretty neat, making your own costume like that from scratch.” Last year Arian had dressed up as some sort of dark fae, green contacts, a touch of face paint and all and although the dark-haired teen wasn’t he was going to put any such effort into Halloween this year, it didn’t mean he couldn’t appreciate the effort that someone else was seemingly putting in.

“Sparklespot is about three streets away from the library. You can’t really miss the shop” at least Arian didn’t think you could. “It’s got a purple sign above the shop door with the shop name in white and some white butterflies painted on the windows. I’d suggest you try the Garden um I mean the Beaded Garden” the Garden was how he tended to shorten it in his head. “That’s only four shops down from here, but it’s shut for the next two days.”

“I liked to do a new costume every year, it’s a great feeling when you get compliments on a costume that you made because it means you did a good job.” There was a fleeting smile on her lips. “I didn’t get a chance to make one last year though, so I figured this year I would be sure to have an awesome one… Just didn’t expect to have all of my tools gone.” Natalia added with a sigh as she picked up a flimsy beading mat with a frown before putting it back.

She turned away from the shelf as he began to describe where the shop was located nodding as she committed it to memory so she could find it later. “Well that’s good to know where those shops are, and the tip about the garden being closed, I don’t suppose you know of any good fabric stores?” She questioned looking over at him. “The place I used to go to went out of business a while back and I just hadn’t had a chance to find a new store.” Natalia explained with a small smile.

Arian nodded “I feel that way about the jewellery I make.” Although the dark-haired teen didn’t have a problem wearing jewellery, he very rarely actually bought jewellery – buying old beaded necklaces from charity shops totally didn’t count given that he took them apart for the beads. If he wanted a new necklace or bracelet then the dark-haired teen preferred to make up something for himself and although he wouldn’t count his stuff as amazing (given some of the stuff he’d seen that was truly amazing, he’d come a long long way from that day in class back in primary school when he’d burnt his fimo beads after leaving them in the oven too long.

He shook his head, his face slightly rueful at the girl’s question about fabric stores “Sorry I don’t” he admitted. Not sewing or making costumes meant it wasn’t something that he’d really needed to know. Ironically if she’d asked about bakeries then Arian probably been able to list a bunch without thinking too hard on it given his fondness for sweet treats.

Natalia smiled at him, "Well thanks anyway, I'll probably look and see if there are any in the area, was just hoping that I wouldn't have to put in that effort." Shrugging lightly she examined what she had placed in her basket then glanced up and down the small racks trying to see if there was anything else worth getting, and didn't seem to find anything.

"Well, I should probably get going, there are a lot of things I need to get and not that much time left if I'm going to have any time to make a good costume... but it was nice meeting you...." she paused realizing she had neither caught his name nor given her own.

"I'm Natalia, don't believe I caught your name." She added as a clumsy after thought trying to make up for a lack of introduction.

“Ah sorry I didn’t give it,” Arian looked flustered that he hadn’t thought to introduce himself. “I’m Arian – Arian Laith. It’s been nice talking to you likewise.”

The dark-haired teen was going to get going himself soon – the little fish beads had turned out to be not-that-great up close and there hadn’t really been a great deal much else that had caught his eye. Not that it mattered given that he was still planning to go check out Sparklespot.

He smiled at Natalia “Good luck with your fabric hunting.” Maybe he'd see her at either Sparklespot or the Garden at some point – he certainly frequented both places enough after all.

that should do it then biggrin

"Thanks, and good luck with... whatever project it was that you were working on..." she said stumbling over the last part because she had no idea why he was there in the first place. Covering up her clumsiness Natalia smiled at him and waved as she made her way to the check out to pay for the few items she found that were actually worth buying.

Smiling to herself, Natalia hoped that she ran into him again sometimes, he seemed nice, and was probably knowledgeable enough in the subject to have some good conversation about making jewelry, and since it wasn't a very common hobby, it wasn't something Natalia got to talk about a lot.

After paying for the materials she left the store watching the store fronts as she walked hoping to maybe stumble across a useful store as she did so.
