If they aren't kidding about the web browser not sucking, I am so going for this. Playstation's browser is utter crap.
As I lack a 360, I might have to finally figure out how to make my Playstation controller work with my computer. I heard it's hard possible.

Roisu If they aren't kidding about the web browser not sucking, I am so going for this. Playstation's browser is utter crap. As I lack a 360, I might have to finally figure out how to make my Playstation controller work with my computer. I heard it's hard possible. I used mine a lot with Maplestory and a few other games. Though it wasn't through Steam. It was with some program that I forget the name of. Worked like a charm after I mapped the buttons properly.
I don't think I have too many Steam games that would be nice with a controller. Especially not TF2. Having played console TF2 like 5 years ago, I don't wanna go back to that feeling. emotion_zombie

So, I tried out Big Picture today. I'm going to ramble give a mini-review.
I had to download a program (MotioninJoy) that tells my computer that the PS3 controller I just plugged into it is totally a 360 controller. It was really simple to do, actually.
I played a game, Bit.Trip Runner, on it, and it worked great. I only played through the first level, though, because I noticed my laptop was running hot (wow, what else is new?) I'm not sure why that is. I don't remember Bit.Trip causing me to overheat before. Maybe my graphics card can't handle my TV? *shrug* I'll try again when I get off my lazy butt get a desktop.
When I started up Bit.Trip, a pop-up told me I had to let Steam reconfigure it to a better format or something, and I had to tell it OK. But the pop-up required a mouse to press it. I had to walk over to my computer (an entire yard away!) You can open Big Picture by pressing the home button, but you still need the mouse to open Steam first. (I wonder if there's a way to get Windows to use my controller as a mouse?)
You open up the Steam overlay by pressing the Home button. That's way more convenient than the default shift-tab in my opinion. Ah! I forgot to try to take a screenshot. I think it was RB-Home, maybe? Bleh! Now I'm thinking in 360!
I also tried the "web browser for your tv that doesn't suck." I spent most of the time confused out of my mind. All the instructions were in 360. It was all "Press Y to do this" and "Press LB to do that" and I was all "whuh?" So all I did was a Google image search for "xbox 360 controller." I drew a controller and taped the ugly picture to the wall for future reference. Typing in Big Picture isn't too hard, but it's really different from Qwerty. It'll take some getting used to, but I can see it being much faster. Kind of like T9 texting. (I used to be a teenage girl, and I used to be good at T9. But now I'm stuck with a Qwerty phone, sigh)
I don't think you're allowed to change your online status on Friends while in Big Picture. If you can, it's not obvious. I looked everywhere and couldn't find it. I had to exit it, walk over to my computer, sign on, and reopen Big Picture. Such a hassle. It's still in beta, though, so maybe they'll fix that. Next time I try it, I'll be sure to try chatting with someone to see how that works out.
I really want to try out sites like YouTube and Hulu on Big Picture, but I couldn't today because I had to have my TV muted. (my roommate was doing homework and our only TV is right next to the computer area. not the best placement) I'll be sure to check that out next time, too.
tl;dr: Big Picture seems pretty cool so far, and Roisu's laptop likes to overheat.

Why does it have to think it is a 360 controller? I use ds3 tool (MotioninJoy). Is it something to do with big picture? Can it only work with 360 controller or something?

Tha Wolf Mane Why does it have to think it is a 360 controller? I use ds3 tool (MotioninJoy). Is it something to do with big picture? Can it only work with 360 controller or something? I think so. I watched a YouTube video that said it only works with 360 controllers. And I instantly believe everything I hear on a YouTube video. When I tried Big Picture with my computer thinking my controller was a PS3 controller, Steam wouldn't accept any of my inputs. But it's okay. I have the 360 buttons in my short term memory right now. YBAX. Kind of rhymes with emacs, assuming I'm pronouncing everything correctly. I never pronounce things correctly, though. I know how to pronounce Vim. I'm not really a Linux person, though. I'll just stick with Word. Oh, no, I'm rambling. That isn't good. I should just stop now.

Tha Wolf Mane Are you sure you configured the button inputs properly? Think so. From what I've Googled, this is the only way.

This thread was made with the intent on discussing Steam Big Picture. Not to talk about who wants to "sex" who.
