The Knight of Earth was feeling much better.
His arm was no longer hurting him and he was certain he was healed, thanks to some magic more than his remarkable body. Sure, he was very used to getting hurt, but somehow he didn't think that made him any better at it now than he had been when he was just starting out.
He was on patrol tonight without any guilt, ready to pick things up where he had left them and do a proper round of his area of the city, starting from the library and working his way out. He had already locked up for the night, and taken his Corgi, Dogby, home. The librarian was powered up and looking out over the city with a relaxed, eager expression on his handsome face.
Though he was older than most of the combatants in this war, he looked forward to meeting with any members of the Order side of things. And maybe talking to some of the Chaos kids, though he knew how well that usually turned out.
It didn't hurt to keep trying.
Well, sometimes it did, but he would try to avoid getting punched or kicked or Nega weapon'd tonight, just on principle. He bounced from the roof and started his patrol, his shield on his arm but feeling weightless to him, like an extension of himself.

There was old guy wandering around. This, Vanadis felt, wasn't so very peculiar in and of itself; what was peculiar was that the old guy was wearing armor. Not like, a little ringmail to look cool for his friends or anything, no, he'd gone for the full knight get-up, like seriously, how much did that outfit even weigh? She was pretty damn glad it wasn't her wearing it, or she'd never been able to even take a step with how heavy it was sure to be. And that was with the added strength that came from being a senshi. Which was another thing. She was pretty sure this guy wasn't a senshi, because one; she'd never seen a senshi that old, and two; he wasn't exactly wearing a senshi outfit and there was definitely no tiara to be found anywhere on him. What she was pretty sure of was that he was some sort of Order person, though - which really narrowed it down to 'talking cat' or 'knight'. It was pretty obviously the latter. Right. So this was the second knight she'd ever met (although she hadn't actually met him yet so much as stared creepily at him from afar) and, well, he certainly looked more right for the job than Nysa had, she thought. At the very least, he looked like he could take a truck head-on in that armor and still come out of it fairly unscathed whereas Nysa's outfit had looked like an expensive glass of wine would be the death of it. And he looked more experienced than the teal haired page she'd met, too. Older, for sure. Which probably meant he had more information about this whole knight thing. Information that Vanadis would really like to know. Thus were the thought processes behind the red-headed senshi jumping down from the half-wall she'd been perched on and making her way towards the old guy in the knight getup with a sunny smile on her face. "Hiya! You, um, wouldn't happen to be a k-knight or anything, would you?" She beamed at him, trying to appear entirely harmless and non-threatening. It wasn't exactly hard to manage. "Er, not one of those cosplaying ones, but like, a real knight, y'know?" The last bit was a bit hopeful - if he was a real knight, then surely he'd be in the know and she wouldn't have to elaborate any more. Which was good, because she wasn't entirely sure how to go about elaborating this, anyway.

Lacking any trace of ears and tail, it was a safe assumption that Camelot was not a cat. Also, he was very much a dog favoring person, with his corgi taking a lot of his love and attention with her cuteness. Not that he had her with him tonight, since it was unsafe to patrol with a tiny dog with stumpy legs and a history of running off and getting lost.
The Knight of Earth felt another power signature nearby. He felt his senses were keen, and it was because of his aspect and his nature as much as it was the general ability of all powered beings to feel auras.
Turning, he offered her a smile as she approached him. Then his eyebrows lifted a bit as she tried to ask him a question, amusement creeping over his expression though he was trying very desperately not to laugh at her.
It was endearing, and he couldn't blame her for being confused. When he first started out as a knight, no one had heard of them. So he was used to the questions by now.
"Yes, I am a knight. Ah. In rank and in title, actually, if you weren't already confused. My name is Camelot, of Earth." He bowed a little, always getting caught up in that feeling of chivalry that came with his armor. He really was a knight now, after all, so he felt right in acting like one. It was not really an act any more. Most of the time, he didn't even notice it.
"It's nice to meet you. Are you patrolling around here? I can answer any questions you have, and we can patrol together, if you want. Well." He frowned, wrinkling his nose a bit, "I can try to answer them, anyway."

"Oh good!" All the air left her in a 'whoosh' as her nerves deflated and she relaxed. This time her smile was a bit less sparkling, but no less friendly. And he seemed to be having fun, so that was a good start, right?
"Ohh, Camelot! You mean like, K-King Arthur and such?" She'd had the puppy-dog eyes perfected since she was six, and the adoring fangirl expression came pretty easily as well. Camelot! The place, not the guy, although she was sure that there were some people who wouldn't mind fangirling over him - he was more handsome up close than she'd immediately expected from an old guy, after all. "That's amazing! Have you been there? Is t-there a castle still? Oh, oh, or a village! Is there a village?! Or maybe it'd be a city, not a village, um, either or!"
She had had some knight related questions, but frankly they took precedence over this new, much more important matter.

Camelot laughed and nodded his head.
"There is a castle there, and the lands are beautiful. Everything seems younger, fresher, there. Nature has a beautiful presence. There are caves made of crystals, and a lake with a magical mist that separates Camelot from Avalon. And there is another land nearby, another knight's Wonder, Shalott. It seems we can travel between them, because we three are connected. I imagine there must be other knights of Earth with.. ah... Arthurian based wonders and perhaps I will meet them as well."
He smiled, tilting his head as he watched her. He always felt an affinity with newer or less experienced senshi, and he felt paternal over them as well. Like he was meant to guide and help them, as must as he was to serve and protect them.
"I can take you there some day, if you'd like. To my wonder and namesake, I mean. Camelot as I know it." He couldn't help but like the idea, as he had always loved the lore of King Arthur and his knights, and never thought he would actually be connected to it like he was now. He was as much a fan boy as anything else.

"Oh wow. Oh wow!" Vanadis looked really impressed, nodding along to his words with a slightly stupefied expression. "That sounds, um, really magical-like... Are there any p-people there or something?" Thinking about her own question, she unconsciously furrowed her brows. "Or is it like, abandoned? That'd be really sad I think. But, um, we'd probably have heard about it on the news by now if there were people still living there, wouldn't we?" She beamed at his suggestion to take her along on one of his trips. "Really? You would? That w-would be amazing! I, er, I can take you to Vanadis one day as well if you want to, in repayment - although I haven't really gone yet, so m-maybe I should check it out myself first before inviting people along. Just in case it's like, full of man-eating flowers or something." She looked dubious. "You don't it would be, do you? That'd be a bit of a bummer."

Camelot shook his head.
"No, no people. It is a shadow of what it once was, I imagine, but it is still grand and beautiful. And it does take a little magic to get back there. Just like going to space for senshi, like you." He knew senshi could do that, though he declined visiting planets. He felt he would get space sick or something.
"It works a little bit like that, we're connected to our pasts and to our Wonders, the places we're named after. But it would be nice to see them in all their glory, with people milling around and living those lives from long ago... real knights, I suppose, and not just to facsimile I fulfill."
Growing up, he'd always had a dream of being a knight, and even into his adulthood he held that fascination. He collected books on Arthurian lore and the culture of knights, before he had ever even known powered beings and all this magic existed.
He blinked at her question about her planet.
"Err... well. I'm not sure. I've never been to space, so I'm not sure what I would expect. The very idea... ah. Well, I'm sure it's safe? I've never heard of anyone... not coming back from their trips to space, at least." That was as close to comforting as he could get, and he knew it was a lame attempt.

"You can do a lot of things with magic, huh. It's pretty awesome." She beamed. "And yeah, I can kinda understand t-that. I mean, space probably doesn't have any people either. It's a bit weird, that, like - where did they all go? Are there bodies lying around or d-did they just vanish into thin air?" At least the senshi she'd talked to about space travel hadn't mentioned any people, even on the Moon, so she'd kinda guessed her way into there simply not being any. Maybe one day she'd get enough courage to go check out her asteroid and see for herself. "That's... not very comforting." She looked even more dubious now. "M-maybe people have gone missing, and no-one's just heard about it 'cause they didn't know anyone?" That could happen - and with how many people still went missing in Destiny City, it was very easy for a hapless senshi or knight to blend into the masses of others.

Camelot didn't want to think about where they all went. It was likely a sad story, in the end, as most ends to a civilization often were. He frowned thoughtfully.
"I hope there aren't bodies everywhere. That sounds unpleasant..."
He had never been to space, and never saw the dead that sometimes decorated the ancient homes and worlds the senshi visited. He had not seen any dead in Camelot, which was a relief, but he had barely begun to explore it.
He had not yet gone into the castle, either.
"Well, I suppose that's just one thing we need to learn when we visit our home planets and our wonders." He patted her on the shoulder reassuringly. "It's just something everyone must face, the unknown of their connection to the past. But it is very important to learn about who you are and what you represent, and will only make you stronger in the long run. I wouldn't fear it, whatever happened. If the people went missing, I imagine they are long gone by now regardless."
He shook his head, reminding himself and her that their worlds were ancient, and they were stepping into the ruins of an ancient past. Especially for the senshi, whose planets just sat there, undisturbed.

"I guess so." Her brow was furrowed as she contemplated this. "But... I think maybe I w-won't go see my planet until I know I'm strong enough without it, you know?" She accompanied her little speech with large hand gestures, looking a bit frustrated at her inability to put what she thought into words. "Because I'm just me, a-and I shouldn't need the past to be a good senshi. Because I'm not the past, whatever or whoever Sailor Vanadis used to be, I'll always be Aggie Thorsen and I don't want to lose that to some, um, ancient ideal. I want to be strong without it. Did that make any sense at all?"

Camelot nodded his head.
"I think that is a fair way to approach it. It's something that's supposed to be personal, I think, anyway. Going to your planet or your wonder, it is attached to who you were and who you will become, and if you don't think you're ready yet then you should wait until it feels right." For knights, it worked a little differently, remembering the phrase that brought them back, but he imagined the principle was about the same.
"But you're right, that's a good point. You are who you are, regardless of what the past says. Whatever you learn there, good or bad, you should take it as a way to grow. Nothing that happened should dictate how you act now."
He pretended not to notice her telling him her identity, though he hoped she was a bit more careful about it when she was in mixed company. He looked at her sympathetically and offered her a warm smile.
"You have to decide for yourself, but I think you're right. I don't think we should be ruled by the past, we should learn from it. But that's sort of why this whole war is happening, anyway. Ancient hurts and ideals that the awakened warriors of today just fight for, despite the fact that there are other ways." He sighed, but decided not to go off on one of his soapbox rants.

Camelot seemed to have wisdom down pat, if Vanadis was to be any judge. She gave him a smile, relieved that he seemed to understand what she was trying to say - and had managed to put it into even better words than she could. "Well, I don't know much about the past or such, b-but what I fight for is mainly people, not old ideals or the Moon Princess or anything. Most senshi I've met seem to fight to protect others, not for ancient history. And the baddies I've talked to," however briefly, "seem to think that they're fighting for good too."

"That is the issue, yes," he said, frowning, "everyone fighting in this war seems to think they've got the winning idea, but no one is fighting for the same thing. Peace can't be found that way, not without compromise, but it's impossible to find middle ground with a corrupting force like Chaos."
He had a big issue with the very idea of Chaos. That entity, that force, was his truest enemy. Moreso than anyone that was being controlled by it. Even their greatest enemies in the Negaverse were only made that way because of the chaos that had built inside them. He had seen it, the way it darkened them more and more, the stronger they got.
He wasn't ready to give up on most of them, though. Their hearts were not as far gone as it seemed, he knew it. He hoped it, maybe.
But hope was important.
"As long as you stay true to yourself, and believe in what you're doing, you'll find the path you're meant to follow. There will be plenty of obstacles, and temptations from Chaos, but you must always remember that you were awakened for a purpose, and it was no mistake."

She nodded earnestly, listening to his words. "I wish someone had told me that back when I was awakened, could've d-definitely used it back then." Even if he did seem to lean more towards the whole 'destiny'-angle than she did, it was still good advice. "I mean, I guess most people figure this stuff out for themselves eventually, b-but I remember back at the beginning I was so unsure and, um, flail-y I guess. It'd have been nice to have someone to give a bit more direction." Her brow furrowed, "or a bit clearer orders, in any case. 'Fight evil' isn't really all that specific when you're fresh and unsure in this whole Order business."

Camelot smiled and laughed, nodding his head.
"You'll figure it out, I'm sure of it. And I think most of us are flaily when we awaken. I nearly fell off a roof. It took me ages to get used to things, and I am still learning. But at least I don't feel like as much of an idiot anymore. Being a newbie and being old was certainly not fun."
He had gotten a lot of s**t as a Page, as far as his age was concerned. Now, as a Knight, he got less of it because it seemed fairly weighed. He was at the right rank to look sagely and experienced, even if he had not been fighting as long as his age might dictate he still had been at it for a long time.
He tilted his head, remembering it all. It had been a difficult, mostly embarrassing, start.
