Zeke was nervous. This was going to be his first battle, well first real battle that was, in an official stadium sort of match, and he really didn't know how this was going to turn out. He was going to do his best though.
"Go, Thmei!" He sent out the pokemon he was going to be using, the one he had hatched from the egg from the daycare. She was a little more temperamental than his Golbat, but he had promised a break from battling from his first friend, after the whole temple incident.
The blue pokemon flew in a circle around Zeke. "Swablu." She was more ready than her trainer was.
Baird stepped into the stadium slowly, a hunted look in his eye and a small, sunken posture. This was his second battle, his second official one anyway. He'd sparred against his older brother a year back. It had been enough to strengthen Rylis and evolve him from a mareep to the flaffy he was now. He glanced, uncertainly, to his poke'mon partner before looking out across the stadium. Hopefully, the other trainer had no ghost-types. His first battle, a devastating loss, had haunted him. Perhaps it was an omen...
Swallowing, he threw his hand out towards the field. "Rylis, do your best."
The flaaffy departed from his trainer's side and stepped onto the field. Bleeting a greeting to the other Poke'mon, he steeled himself and filled his chest with a deep breath.
Baird could have melted in relief as a Swablu was sent out to battle. A swablu... peaceful, beautiful, and graceful. Thank heavens...
"H-hey-" Baird called out towards the other trainer. A shy smile touched his lips and he dipped his head in greeting. "Good luck."

A light on the screen announced the beginning of the match. Giving a short nod, Baird filled his own chest and issued his first command. "Rylis! Hit him with a thunderbolt!"
Rylis bleated out and threw his head upwards. The stripes along his tail and along his throat and ears ignited with a bright electric blue. The orb tipping his tail began to crackle and spark as the electricity flowed up through his body and gathered in-between his forelimbs. Throwing himself forward, a lightning bolt shot forth, splitting the air with a loud crack.
For my records
Thunderbolt[Electric] - OPTION 1: Roll one 6-sided dice. 1=miss, 2-5=100 damage, 6 = critical hit. OPTION 2: Roll two 4-sided dice in order to try to paralyze your opponent. First dice determines if it hits or not; 1-2 = miss, 3-4 = hit. Second dice determines how long the condition lasts, 1 = 1 turn, 2 = 2 turns, etc. (Count only your opponent's turn for the countdown)

His opponent seemed nice, and the purple haired boy smiled back at Baird. This might be fun.
Hopefully.
The other boy started things off with a Thunderbolt attack, a good choice for the Flaffy. Not very good for him, but that was alright. He had some tricks up his sleeve.
"Alright, Thmei. Use Dragon Rush!"
The Swablu flew towards the opponent, her body covered in a light blue glow, intent on slamming into the Flaffy.

Rylis was tossed back by the blow. A solid hit from his opponent. Shaking the blow off he launched yet another thunderbolt after the swablu. Behind him Baird bit his lip nervously.

The other boy seemed even more nervous than he was, if that was possible. It was kind of nice though, not to be the only one worried about how things were going to go.
A second Thunderbolt had followed the first, a smart move, since it had worked well the first time.
"You're doing great, Thmei. Now, follow that up with Mud-slap." The Swablu chirped, and then turned around, kicking up mud and flinging it towards Rylis.

Baird gasped as Rylis was struck with the mud and sent reeling. A ground-type attack... he hadn't expected that out of a flying-type. His poke'mon stood, grumbling and rubbing the mud from his eyes.
"Rylis, magnet rise!"
The electric poke'mon turned ahead and raised his forelimbs. With a loud bleat the rings around his tail glowed once more. Throwing his forelimbs downwards, he seemed to push up off the ground.

Magnet Rise[Electric] - Magnet Rise | Electric | The pokemon that uses this move becomes immune to ground moves for 5 turns.
Yes! That had worked. It was one of the better tricks he had, at least for battling electric types, though it seemed that his opponent had a plan to deal with that. Oh well. They had other attacks.
He grinned. "Nice choice dude." There were no hard feelings on his end, and he thought briefly before giving an order.
"Use Swift."
The Swablu flapped her wings, sending white stars flying at Rylis.

Baird smiled sheepishly. It wasn't an easy move for the flaaffy and it had required a good deal of training, but he'd been assured that it would serve him well enough in the future. He offered a meek dip of his head before returning his attention to the battlefield.
"Rylis, another thunderbolt!"
Rylis tossed his head from side to side, shaking off the swift blow from his opponent. Confirming the order with only a cry, he shot out another thunderbolt.

Another Thunderbolt. However, this time the Swablu was able to dodge out of the way. Yes! He pumped his fist, pleased with that turn of events.
"Use Dragon Rush again!" Maybe they had a chance after all.
The bird glowed and then rushed at the other pokemon again, intent on crashing into him.

A miss! Baird grunted and made another sharp motion towards the arena. "Rylis, focus!" The battle was getting close... too close. Unless the flaaffy focused and made every strike from here on out, they had a very good chance of losing this one.
"Another thunderbolt!"
The poke'mon reeled from the blow and put a paw to the side of his head. As his trainer called out he whirled on his opponent and shot out another arching bolt of lightning his way.

Alright. He needed to do something or else the battle could quickly go back to being in the other trainer's favor. Especially with all the electric attacks the Flaffy was using.
"Go ahead and use Toxic, Thmei." He had to admit, having non flying attacks with his Swablu was more useful than he had expected it to be.
As the Swablu shrieked, a cloud of purple gas came out of her mouth, moving towards the Flaffy.

Poison...
Baird bit his lip and took a slow, shaky step from the platform. Poor Rylis... he'd never suffered from a condition before. Toxic was one of the worst.
"H-hang in there, Ry. T-try another thunderbolt."
Rylis slumped over, his body trembling as the venom sank in, hitting his gut like a ton of hot rocks. Shaking his head and blinking the pain away, he shot another lightning bolt out towards his opponent.
