Fruit!

What he wouldn't do for some fruit right about now!

His mouth watered with drool as he drug himself along, fully unaware of exactly where he was going. All he knew was there was no fruit here, nothing to sate his urge for sweetness. The very thought drove him mad, and he had nightmares about it often. How could there be no fruit? Fruit was a gift from the gods, he simply had to have it to survive!

Yet he had none. His stomach growled in protest, almost screaming the word as its carrier pushed on. Angry with himself and the location he was in, he carried a surly look on his face. He was in a foul mood, and only one thing could calm his temper.

User ImageHe had done it. After hemming and hawing over it for months now. Dief was now a part of the rogue, Peke'Na was no longer associated with him. Yes he felt sad after living there for so long, but he was looking forward to his new adventure in lands he had become closer and closer too. The rogue lands. It felt liberating and scary all at once. His mother had been sad of course, but from her recent litter she looked rather busy to worry fully.

He stretched a paw out and knocked down a rather juicy fruit. He did so again with another one and put it in his leather pouche he once found buried in dirt. Handy little thing it was at times. He moved onward munching away contently along a dirt path.

Things only seemed to get worse the more he walked. Walking was expending energy, and he needed fruit to restore his energy. His joints were aching for a break, but his belly had taken the reigns. They weren't stopping until he found some fruit.

Looking up as he walked, he took mental notes of the different trees he was encountering. All fruitless, all pointless. A growl began to build in his chest, and his anger was at its boiling point.

All he wanted was a piece of fruit! HOW HARD WAS THAT? Obviously harder than he had ever thought before. As he paced on, a scent caught his nose. It wasn't fruity, nor was it enticing. It was musty, in a weird disgusting sort of way. It wasn't feline, which meant it had to be canine. Distaste boiled through his anger, but he did nothing about it. He had no real feud with canines, it was more like an instinct. Canines just weren't supposed to like dogs. He'd never understood it, but whatever.

Shrugging, all thoughts of fruit forgotten he began to follow the dog's scent. Perhaps this dog would know where he could find some fruit?

It was worth a try at least.

Mmm, Dief hummed both mentally and verbally. This fruit was so delicious, not too watery. Flavourful. He liked his chops trying to collect every last drop humming the tune "Where I Belong" under his breath. Since his mouth was busy he breathed through his nose and what he smelled next made his fur tuff up a little bit. Danger. Dangerous. Feline. He had met many and most times it was hard to determine a mentally stable feline or one that wasn't. They were of course larger and could do more damage. A stupid wild dog was a dead wild dog. He had yet to see the feline, though from the muskier scent he assumed it was male. His bum ear made it more difficult to hear the enemy or passer-byer. He stood up with his pouch hanging from his mouth and moved back into the shadows to lay-in-wait. No sense staying out in the open being an easy target.

He was getting closer, he could smell it. The male's scent was strong, almost as if he were standing right on top of him. But he could see he wasn't. Stepping forward once more, his paw hit a small wet spot in the dirt. Looking down at the spot quizzically, he bent to inspect it. It was only a small spot, as though it had dripped from something. After one small sniff, he knew exactly what it had fallen from.

Fruit!

Immediately his mouth began to water, and his cravings were full on once more. This dog knew something, NO - the dog had something. Frantically he yanked his head from one direction to the next expecting the wild dog to simply appear.

"Give me a break man, I just want some fruit!" Kicking the dirt Jino sat back on his heels and silently fumed. He didn't know what his next step was going to be. He could simply follow the dog's scent some more, but did he really want to go on a wild goose chase? Truthfully he didn't, he just wanted to know where the fruit juice on the ground had come from.

Dief heard a faint curse-like set of words. Oh someone was angry indeed. He wiped the juice from his chin quickly and steathfully made his way closer. It seemed that he was right in the assumption that another was near his position. "Hmm. Jaguar." He mumbled to himself once he spotted the very bright feline and apparently the other male had found the juice from this supper. Sad really as such carelessness could endanger his life possibly. Dief would have to watch for it next time and cover his tracks better.

The sound of a growl jolted him from his thoughts. At first he thought it come from the leopards mouth, but then realized as it repeated it was from the stomach area. "Ah." Now he understand why the other was so upset; hunger. He carefully pulled the fruit from his bag and gave it a good nudge. He watched it roll out from his current hideout in the bush and bounce off the felines leg. Dief waited for a reaction.

His urge to nibble on the juicy goodness was beginning to drive Jino a little mad. Though he was by no means a vicious creature, he certainly would seem that way to everyone around him. Which at this current moment was ... no one. But then out of the corner of his eyes, he saw it. The fruit simply appeared out of nowhere. Quickly he pounced onto the fruit, his mouth watering as he took a large bite out of the center.

"Delicious!" Raising his head from the fruit, the male had the largest grin on his face, but he was still mildly confused. Now that he'd had a nibble of his fruit he was more concerned with where it had come from. There were no fruit trees nearby ... and the way it had simply rolled out of nowhere like that ... well fruit didn't do that.

Slowly the leopard made his way over to the bush, a little weary to peak into it. But still he stared it down, hoping whatever was inside would simply reveal itself.

Diefenbaker blinked at the abrupted manner of the fruit disappearing. "Oh, I am glad you enjoyed it." His golden-brown eyes narrowed in contemplation. Maybe this leopard wasn't such a bad sort after all. No other way to find out but to take a chance and make himself known. "Hello there." He spoke out politely and if he had had a hat or known what a hat was he would have removed it in greeting. Dief's posture was stiff as his emotions were at war between caution and trying to be polite. "Hard to find good fruit now-a-days is it not?"

Apparently his contemplative stares had done the trick, because no sooner had he walked over to the bush than a smaller dog pooped out. He was a strange little thing, but that was mostly because he hadn't really had much experience with wild dogs. Naturally anything that's different is strange right? Well .. no that would be rude, but surely someone out there understood his dilemma.

"Oh hi." His voice was cautious, because again, he wasn't accustomed to these animals. He had no idea what they were capable of, and while he was bigger, he was by no means a fighter.

"Not especially no. I think i'm just having a bit of bad luck ... or i'm lost ... Truth be told I really don't know." Tamu let out a nervous laugh and shrugged his shoulders at the male before him.

"You must be from around here right? You have fruit, and you don't seem very out of place."

Dief's ears perked up and silently cursed his sense of duty. It wouldn't do to just walk away and leave the other abandoned. "Yes you could say that I am from around here." A sound coming from the felines stomach caused him to pause and then move the fruit further away from himself. "You can have the rest if you wish as I am quite full at the moment. It should settle your stomach for now and then I can help you if I can and guide you in the right direction to where you want to go."

Dief handed over some of the fruit as he always had a need to help overs and watched the debate for a moment before picking up the fruit to eat. He enjoyed the companionable silence while the other chewed and settled in for the time being. It wasn't one to frighten easily, so he allowed the other male to stay with him for whatever time he needed. It quite possibly turned out to be a interesting day. Yawning he pawed the earth and settled firmly into place.

END.
