The night was unseasonably cold. Wrapping his arms around himself as he broke into a light jog and ignoring the slight throbbing in his knee, he felt his heart speed up in time with his plodding feet. He told herself that he didn't want to disturb anyone. The idea had come to him as he lay on his pallet, unable to sleep. He had a hunch that his real reason for not telling anyone was because he didn't want to get anyone's hopes raised only to be dashed, and, in worst-case, he didn't want a certain irritable Father nixing his plan before he even had a chance to try.

Luck was with him. The chilly night air was welcome against his lightly perspiring skin as he broke into a faster run when he reached the meadow. Warmed from inside by the exercise, D'narew slowed to a purposeful stride as she closed in on the river nearby. Reaching up to unhook the clasp chain, he held the large bag in his hands and stared at it. "Even now he hadn't come for me. Guess I should get used to the fact he may never."

Clearing his mind of everything, intent on the warmth that emanated from the nearby tree, D'narew closed his missmatched eyes. There was freedome near the water and away from the tribe. Dispite that he had only recently found the location it seemed to have a great way to release his anger about the days worth of mocking.

Though only a few of the wounds from her journey to Zena remained, the dry scabs itched painfully. Not wanting to let them scar more of her skin than was already going to happen, Maya rose from her bed trying not to disturb the egg or her sleeping Radaku the Alkidike wandered to the door of her room. Water hadn't been recollected earlier that day so soaking the wounds with rags and water wasn't going to help ease the itching. She would have to find another way to soak, thankfully she loved swimming and a large flowing body of water wasn't far away from the large tree she and her sisters lived.

A questioning whine from behind the Alkidike brought her attention to Pacju as the beast rose from her slumber. Tail wiggling a little playfully as Maya turned to approach her companion. Falling to her knees Maya reached out to pet her Radaku. "Going for a swim I can't sleep. Would you like to come with me?" The nuzzle she received in response said to Maya it was a yes. Pushing herself back up onto her feet with a grin Maya and her Radaku set out the the tree careful not to wake her sisters from their sleep. She didn't want them to follow her or be worried about her condition.

Once she had reached the water Maya was relieved to feel the cool liquid rush over her skin as she dove below the surface. Kicking and pulling her way through the water back towards the surface, gasping lightly as her head broke the surface of the water. Flipping her hair back over her head onto her back she found a rock close by to pull herself out of the water her antenna sticking smoothly to her hair when her hand moved to smooth the water from her dreads.

Pacju had been patrolling the edge of the water paused not far from D'narew with a glare. Her claws poising in the dirt below in case she would be forced to strike.

The night threatened to blind the half breed, golden eyes glinted as the shine of fungus on a stone near the water gave a shadow to the movements in the water. A splash had caught his attention, D'narew watched in stunned silence as Maya pulled the upper half of her body out of the water. With the shadow hidding the details of her face and hair he could only assume she was another Shifter with suprisingly wonderful curves. Blushing as he found his eyes wandering on her shockingly lithe body he couldn't help but wonder where she was from. He hadn't seen her figure around the tribe before. Gripping the stick he often used to pummel tree's with the half breed kept his eyes intent on the feminine figure in the waters. She was compelling to him, he wanted to reach out to her in the shadows of the night and speak with her.

His skin wasn't normal for a shifter durring the moonlight, normaly shifters would be irridecently pale. For him he was the blue skin of his fathers demonic side. A visual of the monster burried deep within. Shaking his head in silent confusion, D'narew sank down in the soft warm mulched mixed sand and hugged the mock stick-sword as his father's words came back to him. 'Because hes a half breed! We will never expect much from him. I doubt he will even find love . . .'

He wasn't aware of the Radaku watching him as he continued to watch the female form in the water. He wasn't planning on making a move to introduce himself. He was obvious as a half breed durring the night anyway. His mind continued to whirl about memories of the hurtfull things that his family had said. 'Keh! Stop thinking about it!' he told himself sternly. Shaking his head once again. Trying to bring his eyes from the female figure.

Maya sighed and narrowed her sore eyes as she lowered her body back into the water, resting her chin on the smooth cool surface of the rock she hung onto. The water didn't flow all that strong here allowing her mind to wander and her senses to work at detecting movement in the forest around her. Ever since becoming a blade Maya had learned she needed to focus better on listening to the earth. Neibet was constantly trying to push her to be stronger and more graceful with her movements. However Dyakida was still trying to get her to focus more on the world around her and the vibrations through her antenna.

Blowing air at the stone as a small luminous pollen landed around her Maya couldn't help but smile. Though she was completely unable to sense any movement's with her antenna except the fish in the water. The beauty of the falling pollen over the water was the most miraculous thing she had seen since returning home. Giggling and pulling herself to sit on the stone Maya held out a hand to catch a few of the glowing objects. Her eyes dancing from one to another as she slowly lifted her head to stare at the beauty above her. It wasn't pollen she was seeing but the dust of mating Nondwa. Not just a single mating pair but several.

Guilt coursed through her as she allowed her shoulders to roll forward and she found her eyes watching the reflection of the dancing Nondwa in the now still water. After seeing her best friend in so much pain, after watching and being unable to do a thing as Dyakida lost her eyesight, Maya could only imagine the horrible ache inside the blind Alkidike, the overwhelming sense of grief, the pain of feeling somehow lacking because she couldn't do this one simple enough thing or fight. Sometimes she wished she could give her sight to Dya, even for a night to enjoy such a marvelous experience.

D'narew heaved as sigh with Maya's movements, though he could still see very little besides the shadow outlining the female figure he couldn't help but ponder that she must know he was there watching her. Watching like a creep, a freak. . . the monster that he was. His arms still folded across the mock sword against his chest. If she wanted to kill him for watching through the night, it would only stop the pain he carried in the end. He would be gratefull for the release of life if nothing else. But he was used to silently following his sister to protect her. Gaurd her. If she hadn't known of his continued protection, how likely was it for this girl to know he was there?

The sight of the Nondwa slowly gathering above her wasn't helping his attention any. If nothing it drew him more to her, like a strange Nymph that played in the night. Only now was he becoming aware of what she really was. An Alkidike! An underlying hint of something primitive wrapped around his body, drew him closer. He'd only meant to make sure she was safe not that the irridecent moths were dangerious but he wanted to see if there was a chance she too was a half breed.

In the faint light siphoning from the soft fluttering insects aboce, he could see every curve, every line, every hollow of her body. Wearing one of those tiny shirts and a loincloth, the sight of her was enough to draw a soft whine from him as he stared, transfixed, as she rose from the water, as she glanced upward in the dark.

The Alkidike winced and hesitated when an unfamiliar sound reached her ears. Her dark bug like eyes narrowing as they focused in the direction it had come from. When the noise didn't continue Maya stifled a frustrated growl as she launched herself off the stone she had been perched upon moving fluidly towards the edge of the water. Opposite the side she had entered. A figure stood there, watching her. Why hadn't it attacked her at this point, it was obviously an earthling, yet it couldn't be a shifter the skin was dark and well hidden in shadow unlike the bright skin she knew they had at night.

"Who are you." Her eyes were almost slits as she clenched her hands tightly. She had left her weapons at home thinking it safe to travel and soak her wounds under the shadow of the moonless night. She listened for Pacju only to find the beast circling about behind the earthling prepared to strike at any command.

His mind, however, was vicious, reminding him with a ruthless abandon that he wasn't pondering something as simple as living normaly he was partly a monster. Finding he stood near the waters edge the sudden movement of the Alkidike in his direction he started looking around. He must have stepped on something and allerted the warrior woman to his precense or could it have been the sword like stick he had dropped. Taking a few steps back he glanced from side to side but trees without foot holds blocked his path. Raising his hands in a pleading fashion of surrender to the height of his shoulder D'narew's eyes fell on the wounds Maya supported. "I'm not going to hurt you."

He had heard of the ruthless women that were often found in this part of the forest, until now he had never met one of them. Searching again from side to side he found himself standing close to the funus covered tree. "I'm D'narew." The half breed shook as she approached, his body tensing and preparing for a beating that he was sure would follow. That always followed behaviour when he was caught doing anything at home. His mismatched eyes searched the Alkidike for any weapons. No that it would do him much good, they were skilled with their hands as much as weapons. So he had overheard anyway.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to stare."

Maya growled, unsure if she was more irritated that she'd been interrupted and her wounds still itched or that she had caught someone spying and silently observing her. Or if she was supposed to be flattered by the earthlings lack of desire to attack. She did however relax when he came into better light near a well glowing tree. He wasn't like any earthling she had seen before, then again he had familiar traits of shifter in him. Could he be another mixed earthling? Seeing shifter mixes seemed to be growing increasingly common to her over the past few weeks, difference was, he was mixed with the new tribe she had only recently discovered with a large group of people.

"What are you doing here? how often do you come?" Turning so she wasn't facing him directly Maya glanced over at Pacju who let out a soft whine before dropping her head and taking a few steps forward. For the past few nights Maya had been doing the same thing in order to find relief from the painful itch of healing. Had he been spying on her all this time? Blushing at his apology Maya turned back confused.

D'narew once again found himself stunned, unlike everyone else he knew she wasn't attacking him. But seemed intent on knowing things, he found the interaction pleasurable but didn't put to much hope on it staying that way. Keeping his body tensed as a Radaku joined the warrior Alkidike near him he swallowed hard. "I. . ." He found himself trailing off as he tried to remember exactly why he had traveled to the water in the first place. It was hard, thoughts of the previous moment still consumed his mind. Staring at the water it took some time before he remembered why he had come. His precious sister was an avid collecter of creatures. He was traveling down here in hopes of finding one he could take home to her.

"I was looking for eggs. Our tribe isn't far from here so I guess it would be often but this is the furthest this way I have ever been." Letting his hands fall to his sides D'narew shrugged. He would have to come up with a logical reason but lying could turn the fragile peace they currently had. "I appologize but I was distracted by your beauty."

"Figures" Maya's shoulders slumped at the news of a tribe near by, why else would there be so many shifters visiting her favorite spots at the river all the time. Her antenna's smashed sadly against her head as her gaze lowered sadly to her feet. Frowning in concentration as she struggled to remember every time she had come across one of the shifters she glanced back towards the water. "Eggs near the water?" She had seen brilliant yellow birds that fluttered just below the canopy of the forest, the tips of their feathers glowing when the sun set. As if they were echoing the forest's version of stars for the Alkidikes to see. Maya couldn't help but secretly wonder of the birds were another creation of Aisha at one point.

When her beauty had been mentioned Maya found her face heating with the comment. No one had complimented her in such a way before, something about the way it had been said held her attention. Raising her head to D'narew with eyes have covered in lashes she smiled faintly. "Why don't I help you find some eggs. What are they for anyway?"

Her comment confused him but he brushed it off with little care, that wasn't the part that seemed to intrigue him. It was the lack of discust in the Alkidikes face. A sudden pain of guilt raced through him when she appeared saddened by the presence of his tribe. "They wont harm you, if anything they would fear you." Taking a step forward D'narew tried his best to show her he meant no harm and to lift her mood a little. He hated to see women sad, hurt, or pained in any way. Least of all when it was all his fault it had been put on a girl to start with. "I'm sorry I didn't mean. . . well I heard they could be found near the water."

He was starting to wonder if the lowered gaze was because she couldn't stand the site of him. Though he felt a little relief when her head came up even if slight. It wasn't him that seemed to be causing her pain? Somehow it felt strange. She wasn't emediatly treating him like his tribe did. Had she not even wondered that he was a half breed.

"Sure, I'm not used to having help. Do your kind help each other?" Her lack of obvious distaste for him made him want to know more about her. She didn't seem to be the monster his shifter half seemed to scream she was. Internally he was wondering if she was not the monster people thought she was that maybe he wasn't as much of a monster.

Happy that he had accepted her offer to help him she smiled at him before pointing off towards the water's edge again. "Well why don't we start over there?" She offered again before walking towards the place she had mentioned. Collapsing excitedly to her knees Maya started sifting through the sand. After a little while Maya turned to look at D'narew a little embarrassed pushing a loose dread back behind her pointed ears. "Is this even the right place to look for them?"

It had to be right? This was the only way there could be eggs near the water. She had heard of strange creatures that warmed their eggs in the sands near water so they could escape into the depths of the water when they hatched. She had naturally assumed they were the one and the same he was looking for.

Pacju gave a soft yelp as she too seemed to jump in the search for the strange eggs, sniffing at the sand along the line against the water. Pausing at intervals of scent to dig finding nothing but strange shells.

"Oh, Right." He had been so consumed in thought that he hadn't been the one to guide her to were he had been told the eggs were, though she had gone to the right place. The sand. Gathering up his courage he strode towards Maya and kneeling down beside her began sifting through the sand himsef. This was the only way he knew to find eggs. He had found some not long ago after some of the shifters had complained he handn't found the right eggs and the ones in the sand by the river were the ones they wanted.

Doing his best to remain stoic making his hands work despite the trembling in his fingers, they brushed against something familiar to fingers before He shied away from her, unable to bear having her touch him. If she did, she would only find out the monster he was trying to hide from her. The monster she hadn't seemed to have seen yet, he didn't want her to see it and treat him diffrently than she was now. Despite the few moments he knew here she seemed kind and open. He didn't want to shatter that fragile peace. Turning his head so she couldn't look into his eyes he continued searching through the sand.

Maya felt his gentle, soft fingers brush against hers before quickly withdrawing and watched as he turned away from her. She wasn't really surprised, Alkidikes were fearsome to most of the shifters as they seemed to be to the lone Alkidike. Somehow she wanted him to know she wasn't going to hurt him, why did all the mixed earthlings seemed to be so terrified of human contact. There had to be at least some way she could reach out to them show them she didn't mean any harm. To her earthlings were all the same no matter if they were mixed or pure, there had to be a way to change even earthlings minds about it. Right?

"Hey," her voice was soft as she spoke. Her body moving so she could place a hand on his. "I'm not going to hurt you, I promise." Maya's eyes searched his face to show how sincere she was about the words she had spoken. Ignoring Pacju who was furiously digging in the sand searching for something. Unaware of the ebbing rush of the water. Pacju eventually brought a mouthful of something smooth and slobbery dropping it in front of D'narew before heading back towards the spot in the sand. Her dark bug like eyes drifted from his face to the object and Maya found herself giggling suddenly.

There in the sand before them was a single egg. "Guess you're right. There are eggs in the sand." She waved her hand as she tried to stop laughing. After regaining a semblance of her control, she cleared her throat. "Sorry D'narew, I guess I just wasn't expecting Pacju to do that."

Light and Golden gaze darting around almost nervously, D'narew's cheeks pinked slightly. Watching as her hand came down on his. He wanted to much to shy away, to cringe, run, to flee the sudden tightening knot that grew in his stomach. He wasn't able to do anything but trust the Alkidike to her words, come to think of it. He didn't even know her name, she hadn't introduced herself to him as he had done to her. The approach of Pacju didn't make him cringe as much. If the formidable animal was going to attack, it would have by now, the only reason it hadn't must mean it was connected with the Alkidike.

The object was one of the eggs he had been looking for and the giggle that resulted eased the strange fleating tension that had built between them. Turning to face Maya his eyes settled on her wounds, for the first time he felt akin to someone who wasn't his beloved mother or sister. She had been hurt and pretty badly from what he could tell, he half wondered if it was caused from members of her own tribe. Or something else entirely. Reaching out to touch them with a compasionate stroke his face drew into a sad frown. "Do they hurt? Forgive me, but I don't know your name."
