Jett considered himself a vastly savvy sort of guy. He might not have been well versed in every aspect the world had to offer, but damn it all if he didn't try to be. He knew all the important things—money, cars, business? Oh, don't get him started on business.
He could talk your ear off about stocks, teach you about antiques, educate you in economics—
But he couldn't, for the life of him, pick out a gift.
There was this new thing he was trying—surprising Raven with gifts instead of waiting for her to ask for him. The whole thing with Ophelia living with him had left him—him—a little more sensitive to Raven's emotions. It was a hard change, considering her and how she felt about everything.
He was still working on the emotional exchange, so instead of emptying his heart to her, he emptied his wallet.
…Except shopping for a girl was hard.
He probably should have tried to convince Ophelia to come with him, though figured that taking her shopping with him might have ruined the gesture he was trying to offer Raven. Which left him on his own.
Which, in hindsight, was a bad idea.
What did Raven need? She always liked to look good. New clothes? A new bag? Shoes, you couldn't go wrong with shoes. Even if Raven did not need new shoes. Or a new bag. Or a new anything.
He rolled his eyes, sighing for the umpteenth time as he debated on the proper gift. It didn't help that he knew he looked out of place; he had wanted to get in and get out before someone thought he was picking up drag as a hobby.

The first few weeks back in Destiny City meant shopping. Serenity Kinderman considered herself one of the Queens of Shopping. Her cards practically had no limits and there were hundreds of good outfits screaming her name from the moment school let out. However, she did make a quick stop to change out of her uniform this time and into some casual clothes. A long, flowy skirt with patterns in browns, oranges and greens, along with a dark green top that hooked around her neck. Heeled wedges encased her small feet while thin bangles by the dozens surrounded thin wrists and went up thin arms. A pair of sunglasses rested on a bed of wavy, shiny pale hair that was loose and came to the middle of her shoulder blades. Armed with a short strapped purse, Serenity felt good enough to take on the world. Her routine was window shopping first. This would help her narrow down the drab from the fab shops! Followed by a latte and then some actual shopping. That could last anywhere from one to three hours before an espresso was needed for the final hour of shopping. Alas, after that it was back to studies and being alone. At least she would have the company of some new pretties. So, Serenity was in the process of stage one. She was walking up and down the street, looking in the windows at what they had on display. So far, nothing called out to her in the window, but there would be one shop she'd stop at. Sanctuary seemed like her kind of shop. From what she could tell it was a little hole in the wall, but the merchandise had seemed like it was quality. Still, on to the next shop. That is, until she noticed a man looking like he was ready to either faint or bolt. Frowning at that, she watched him, not realizing she had completely stopped. He was cute, to say the least. However, a reality check came in the form of some man bumping into her, which, naturally, sent the small teenager to the ground with a startled yelping half scream. She landed on her backside and cringed. "Ow..."

The noise was enough to catch Jett's attention and he glanced over, quite pleased to find that he had a distraction on his hands. He was not a gentleman—unless he thought there was something he could get out of it—but right now, he'd have taken any escape from his current task.
Drawing himself away from the selection the store provided, he went to tend to the girl he'd heard yelp. Either the man who brushed into her hadn't noticed—impossible, Jett figured, given the noise the girl had let out—or had been in a rush to get away so he wouldn't take the blame for knocking her over.
…Either that or the girl was just so ghost-like, he'd been frightened away.
It wasn't often that Jett laid eyes on a girl so pale—and her eyes and hair certainly didn't help her case. If he'd run into her late at night, he might have suspected she was some restless spirit. Thankfully, however, Jett knew that no ghost would wander around in the middle of the day in any shopping plaza, so he really didn't have anything to concern himself with.
Besides—she looked fashionable enough. And was a girl. Maybe he could find some use for her.
Moving to stand next to her, Jett extending a hand to help her up. As he reached down, he flashed one of his more charming smiles and tried to keep up a friendly front. "That didn't look too pleasant--you all right?"

Being ghost like often unnerved a lot of people from talking to her. But, Serenity had dealt with it her whole life, so she wasn't about to pout about it. She'd gotten used to it. Sighing, she stayed down for just a bit before someone stepped in front of her and extended their hand. Taking it without really looking up, Serenity got up and then dusted herself off. "No harm done," she said, checking to make sure that was actually true. No, she wasn't bruised or scratched, so shew as fine. "I'm more resilient than I look." Finally, those pale eyes landed on... a boy. A very cute boy. Ah, how embarrassing! Falling on her butt and making so much of a ruckus it summoned this boy to help her. Clearing her throat, the teenager patted her hair in place. "Thank you for your help! I'm more than alright. Ah... That happens more often than you'd think," she said, voice getting quieter. She didn't mean to say that. Boys just made her slightly nervous, like with most girls. Luckily she didn't have any bags to dump out and embarrass her further! Shopping had royally sucked so far today. At least she might have some company if she played her cards right. It finally dawned on her this was the same boy she thought was cute that had been window shopping as well! Well, then. "Oh! I noticed you earlier. You were window shopping! Not that I'm a stalker or anything. I just happened to notice." Her cheeks turned a brighter shade of pink as she spoke.

It was not in Jett's nature to miss such a thing as blushing—nor was it easy to with how pale the girl in front of him was. In times of late, Jett had become conflicted—in the loosest term of the word—about how to perceive people. On one hand, he looked down on people who couldn't control their emotions enough and allowed themselves to be embarrassed in front of others. On the other hand, people like that were typically easy to read and not very good at secrets—which Jett rather liked, as long as they weren't giving away his.
He might not know this girl, but if she couldn't keep her mouth closed and recognized him, he certainly didn't want to hear any weird rumors floating around about how he was shopping in decisively feminine merchandise.
Serenity had it working for her that she was a pretty—albeit haunting—little thing, and for all the reasons Jett could look down on women, his mother had done a good job of teaching her son to respect a lady. That didn't translate so well when Jett had Dark Mirror business to attend to (or, hell, even when he met a particularly annoying female) but dating one hell of a princess and living with two women left him little more considerate to the female race—however complicated and confusing they might be. "Noticed?" he prompted, flashing what he considered to be a rather handsome half-smile. Glancing over his shoulder at where he had been, he returned his eyes to hers swiftly. "I was. Trying to pick out a gift is a little harder than I first assumed. I think I was beginning to understand why girls can take so long to shop, I never realized you had so many things to consider." He offered a light laugh, despite the fact that he found the whole situation of shopping to be tedious.
Figuring it uncouth to attempt to continue a conversation without exchanging names, he extended his hand to the girl once more, introducing, "Ah, don't let me be rude. Jett Draven, pleasure to meet you."

Who wouldn't blush when a hot guy helped them up and looked interested in talking to them? Not any normal girl! That was Serenity's opinion on the matter. Those pale eyes watched the boy as he talked and then nodded a little, a grin playing on her lips as she tapped them. He wasn't getting the half of why girls took so long in shopping. See, girls didn't like returning things. It was embarrassing, really! Go through all the time and have to return it? Serenity didn't return anything. If she didn't like something she bought, she simply wrapped it up and gave it to a friend. It happened more often than you would think. It wasn't her fault she was attracted to colors that didn't look good with her skin and hair. Or made her legs look bigger than they were. She already had a problem with the appendages. "Yes, there's a lot to chose from! And it varies on what time of year it is, the mood of the group you're shopping with, who you're shopping with, who you're shopping for and so many other things," she said with a soft laugh. She was trying to be flirty still. She put her hands behind her back, lacing the petite fingers together as she watched him. Then his hand was extended and she did the same. "Serenity Kinderman. I'm very embarrassed we had to meet because I was knocked over," she said honestly, the flush coming back to her face, reaching all the way up to the tips of her ears. "I might could help you with your shopping, if you need it? I tend to be an expert shopper when it comes to anyone but myself." It was true. She gave the best gifts, is what her friends told her. So she prided herself in those compliments and always tried to uphold it. She hated disappointing her friends when it came to something as important as a gift.

Perfect. Jett took her hand and gave her a warm shake and a warmer smile. "If you wouldn't mind, I would be terribly grateful. See, when a guy goes shopping," he said, returning his hand to his side, "he knows just what he wants. Something that fits."
He knew that about Raven; he'd been in her room enough while she had clothes discarded around the place to have noticed. He knew her shoe size, her dress size, her bra size.
What he didn't know was what the hell all that meant, in the grand scheme of things. He'd seen her dressed up enough to know that she liked looking flashing, that she liked being the center of attention.
If this other girl—Serenity—could keep up with all those lady-related shopping things, he could use her advice. It wasn't much of a surprise if Jett was calling Raven to ask what sort of thing she might like while he was in the process of picking it out for her. Note to self, however…perhaps in the future, just shell out the extra cash to pick her out some jewelry. Raven seemed to like that enough, and even if it was painful on his wallet, picking out some shiny gem on a string was something that strangely appealed to all women.
"So this whole thing is…much more complicated than I'd assumed," he concluded with a light laugh. He didn't mind playing out the ignorant, well-intending boyfriend with no taste in fashion if it meant Serenity could help jump start this afternoon. "I'd intended to surprise her with some nice outfit, then give her an excuse to wear it by taking her out for a nice evening. Only. I'm not quite sure what constitutes in the men's handbook as 'nice' is the same thing as in the women's. You girls seem to have a lot more to consider in terms of fashion. Any tips?"

When he mentioned how complicated shopping was, the girl nodded a very somber nod. It was very complicated. A lot of thought went into shopping if one was a serious shopper and not a spur of the moment shopper like some. Serenity took it very seriously. It was one of her favorite sports. Yes, in her mind, shopping is a sport. You had to prepare just like if you were playing soccer or something. Wake up early, stretch, make sure you're wearing the proper attire; flats, not heals, something comfortable. Make sure you had money to eat and what not. On sales, like on Black Friday, you had to learn how to sprint, grab what you had been wanting, but waiting for the sale. You were pushing people, other girls were pulling hair and snatching things out of your hand. So needless to say shopping was brutal. "Yes... A lot more goes into it than people think," she said with a soft smile on her lips. Her hands moved to her pale hair to toy with it in an absent minded fashion. When he explained further, she masked the disappointment on her face. Taken. Ah, well. Shopping was still fun. "Well, you certainly have come to the right girl!" She said, grinning since he didn't really come to her, he assisted her in getting to her feet after being bowled over. "I assume you know her measurements if you're buying her clothes?" She wasn't trying to be personal or make assumptions, but she did need to know if he knew her sizes. "Also, I'll need you to tell me about her. I am sure you would like to get something that would fit her personality. You should also tell me what she usually wears! It needs to flow well with what else she owns."

Jett couldn't help but grin; he was rather pleased with Serenity's enthusiasm, and figured that a girl would be the perfect companion on this tragic quest of his. "I'd like to think I know her proportions," he said, figuring that was the nice way to say 'Yes, I've seen her clothes lying around enough to know what she fits into'. He tried to keep his smile rather friendly and continued, "She's very high end. Expensive tastes. Wouldn't caught dead in something that didn't flatter her. She likes pretty little things—you know. She loves people looking at her. I'd say she has no modesty—you know. Cheerleader," he said, as though that were ample explanation.
"She's a pretty girl—fairly tall. Top heavy, if you'll forgive me for saying. Thin, slightly tanned. Pretty blue eyes, gorgeous blonde hair." Raven was downright beautiful, and even if he hadn't been talking about her rack, it was obvious that Jett was particularly fond of her. "Ideally, I'd like to get her something nice—take her out to a nice dinner or something afterwards."

"I don't mind. At least you aren't crude about explaining her body type," she said, nodding and taking in all the information. It sounded like a girl after her own heart, really. Someone she could easily be friends with. They has very similar tastes. "Well, you are in luck, sir," she said with a mischievous grin on her face. "I happen to know nearly every high end fashion store around. You're looking in the wrong place." With that, she took him by the wrist and tugged him further down the shopping street. "Do you have a picture of her? I need to get her colors so I know what to avoid." Certain colors didn't go with other colors. It made sense, yes? Plus, even a top would help her a bit more. She could see what the other girl was wearing for a top in the picture. He mentioned dinner again and she nodded. "I know just the place. So some sort of fancy dress, but not too fancy. Something a little sparkly but simple?" She looked back at her captive as they walked, weaving in and out of the crowds. It was easy for her, because she was slim and short. Hopefully Jett wasn't having that hard of a time with keeping up with her questions or her business pace.

If Jett was having an issue, it didn't show; he weaved through the crowds after her, admittedly a bit surprised at the enthusiasm at which Serenity was helping him along this task. Certainly he wasn't one used to being dragged around like this with strangers, though in the past year he had collected a rather abrasive, pushy group of women he found himself often surrounded by.
High end fashion sounded like the sort of thing to damage his wallet, but he'd already gotten himself looped into this; he wasn't going to back out and look like a cheapskate.
Between being pulled by Serenity and weaving through the crowds with her, with his free hand he had pulled out his phone and was already flicking through to look for a picture of Raven at her request. Most of the picture of her on his phone were, admittedly, not very flattering. He rather enjoyed taking photographs of Raven when she was not at her best—when she was sleeping in a ridiculous pose, or mid sneeze, or yelling at him. Of course, he had a few genial, lovely pictures of her. Some where she seemed to be contemplating the world, some where she had a gentle smile. It was of these that he selected one to share with Serenity. "Here," he said, and while he wasn't one to share his phone, this seemed like a reasonable occasion. Besides—it's not like she was going to steal it and run. He might be good at weaving through people, but he was even better with tackling them to the ground.
"If you need something else, I can get it. Do you do this professionally or something?" he asked, sounding rather amused; if she wasn't considering working as some shopping consultant, she really ought to.

Stopping in front of one of her favorite stores when he pulled out the phone, she waited excitedly. Taking the phone gently, she maneuvered it so she could see his girlfriend and looked at the top. Ah! Okay, she had one of those. So their tastes were sort of similar. Humming a little bit, Serenity took a moment to consider his question and something that his girlfriend would like to wear. "Ah, no. I just do it for fun. I shop a lot." She considered for a moment and then shrugged. No one needed to know she came from a wealthy family. That's where trouble started, usually, with fake friends and getting her feelings hurt. Pushing a hand through her bangs, she handed him the phone back and wandered into the store with a spring in her step. She was greeted by the staff and she just waved and shooed them away when they offered help or just wanted to fawn on her. She came here a lot, okay? "I... am pretty well known in this store," she said, coloring darkly. She never did like the attention, but that's what came with spending a chunk of cash in one place a few times. "Why don't.. you pick out something from this rack and let me see your tastes in what she likes. Then I'll put them together and get you something you will both like." Reasonable enough, right?

Any girl who had the staff greeting her upon her arrival was one whose closet he did not want to see. Nothing against girls—Jett preferred being a snappy dresser, but his mind could only imagine what she'd had to do to for such treatment. The color on her face made him hesitant to ask.
He glanced at the rack of clothes even as he tucked his phone away; to him, they all looked like different colors of the same shirt, but—hey. It wasn't like his clothes came in eight thousand different styles. It was with great effort that he refrained from letting out the most exasperated of sighs and approached the clothes on display.
Perhaps it was laziness or just luck that had his hand resting on a hanger holding something that matched near to the same color as her eyes. Jett wasn't sure how relevant eye color was to clothes, and dressing himself came second nature. Dressing a girl?
…Not so good. "Maybe something like this?" he offered, pulling it out so she could examine and critique the article.

When he picked out a shirt that matched her eyes, or what she'd seen of them in pictures, Serenity shrugged and then nodded. "You're on the right track, but would she wear it?" She inquired, arching a brow. The clothing article looked kind of conservative. "See the high buttons? It looks like it might be too stiff. But you like this color on her?" Serenity didn't want to completely tear the shirt down. It was a nice shirt but for the evening he had planned, Serenity figured his girlfriend wouldn't be too comfortable at all in it. It was a nice day shirt. Looking through a rack of nice dresses, she pulled one out in a similar color and offered to show him. It was a one strap dress with a belt around the waist. It was a light material that would look good on her body type, if she was built like Jett said she was. "Would she wear this, or is it too... Revealing?" Some girls hated their shoulders. Serenity didn't like her legs being shown, so she didn't wear too many short things without some high boots or some stockings or something over them.

Serenity had a good point, so he gave the shirt he held one last look and then put it back on the rack. Immediately his eyes drifted to the article she had picked out and he nodded approvingly. He didn't have the greatest imagination, but he could definitely see Raven in that. "Revealing isn't really an issue," he mused; she'd been in public wearing much less, but such was the life of a cheerleader.
In his mind, Raven had no imperfections. Every aspect of her was aesthetically pleasing—and that dress would look fantastic on her. "I like that," he concluded, leaning back a bit to get a fuller view of the dress. "And I think she'd look good in it. You know, I've got to give you credit, you've helped me out more than any salesperson ever has. I'm impressed."
It was a pity she didn't work here; he'd have tipped her for help like that. And he would have definitely come back for help picking out clothes if only he knew where to find her.
