The Investigator for the case of Sarah Jewell, “Sorrowful Sarah”, walked outside to check his mail. He wanted to know if anyone sent a reply to the evidence he sent to them. He was shocked however, when the only thing in the mailbox was a bulky envelope. The envelope had no return address and the only words on the front were the words, “For the Investigator of Sarah Jewell. I hope you find this useful.” The investigator shrugged and opened the envelope. In the envelope was a voice recorder and a newspaper clipping. He looked over them both and shrugged again, thinking that it was no big deal that there wasn’t a return address. He turned the voice recorder on and listened to it while he walked inside his house to his bedroom.
{Start of Voice Recorder} “Hello there. My name is Irina. As you might know, I am in jail for the murder of Mary Kliner. What you might not know is the torture I have gone through since then. Before you go on I must warn you: Turn off this recorder. Run away so you don’t suffer the same fate I did. But if you insist, then I cannot stop you, for I am probably already dead.”
“It all started in High School. You see, I knew this girl. Sarah. Me and Sarah didn’t get along. I guess you could say we were rivals. Anyway, we both fell in love with the same guy. Jack Parker was his name, if I remember right. Jack and Sarah slowly progressed from not knowing each other to friends, and then proceeded on to love each other. Naturally, I got jealous. When I got jealous, I felt the need for revenge. And when I wanted revenge I pushed Sarah out of a window. She died on impact. Thankfully, the Police didn’t catch me and ruled it as an ‘accident’. I thought then that nothing could get in the way of my love! Jack Parker was MINE. But it didn’t happen that way. You see, Mary Kliner had seen me push Sarah out the window and threatened to tell the Police and Jack. I didn’t like that. So I ended up poisoning her with Cyanide. Sadly, I got caught by the Police because in my rage I had made a mess of putting the Cyanide in her drink. I never saw Jack after that. I was ruled as ‘mentally unstable’ and ‘criminally insane’ and was sentenced to a life in prison.”
“And then the torture started. I guess you could say that Sarah wanted revenge, even in death.”
“Right before the torture started, I saw her in the mirror. It was horrifying, seeing her there, all dressed up in a gown with lace on the bottom and pearls running through her hair. But what was most discerning is that she was crying tears of blood. Then she choked down a sob, brought a finger to her lips and said “Shhh~” and giggled weakly.”
“”After that, she progressively got angrier and angrier until the day that instead of her crying she was glaring at me and mockingly said “I’m sorry.” and disappeared.”
“This is the day after that. I’m afraid i’m’m not going to have much more time in this universe. Sarah is coming to get me. I’m sorry…”
{End of recording. “I’m sorry… keeps on replaying.}
The Investigator gasped and jumped away from the Recorder, shakily grabbing the News clipping, the words “I’m sorry…” resonating in his head.
{News Clipping start.}
