Birds flew around happily around, and even swooped around Emille real quick. Although the filly knew that they were just birds, they made Emille jump. Nowadays, even butterflies and lady bugs made the filly uneasy.
She walked a little ways away from her parents, but since the attack, she didn't wander away very far. Emille made sure that she was in a quick sprinting distance away from her parents so if anything happened again, she could easily go back to them or her parents can quickly find her.
Emille was not going to make the same mistake again.
Once she felt she was far enough away, but still close enough, Emille sat down near the base of a tree under its shade. She laid her head down, sniffing at a nearby flower. Since the attack, Emille had started speaking a little bit more each day, but couldn't really find it in herself to be the energetic filly she once was. The day was beautiful, but all Emille could do was stare at the flower and sigh.

Scythe knew he had wandered too far. His parents would worry. They would probably even come out looking for him. It was recklessly dangerous to go wandering around without an adult around when a kalona could eat him in two bites, Scythe understood and had been told often, but still today he had left on his own. He was still a colt but had grown beyond the wobbling around of his early days. He still walked on spindly legs but had grace to his steps. He had even been learning to fly a little. He might not be an adult yet, but he wouldn't be a foal for much longer either.
He shifted his wings on his golden back. No flying today. Walking worked just as well, and had less potential for accidental tragedy. Besides, from up in the air he found that he missed things he could have noticed while on the ground, like the caterpillar making a meal out of a leaf... or like the filly lying beneath the tree sniffing the flower.
Scythe stopped abruptly. He wasn't alone! Chagrined at being surprised, he just looked blankly at the filly, mouth half open but saying nothing.

Emille had been relaxed before the sounds of something approaching, but when she heard the sounds and then something stopped, her ears perked up and she couldn't help but be alert. She was breathing a little harder, already afraid. Before she even saw what was coming, Emille stood up.
The gold and blue that came up near her caused Emille's nervousness to go even further. Sure, it looked like he was still a colt and he didn't look like the skinwalker that attacked her, but he was different. Bottom line, Emille was intimidated and scared.
She backed up against the tree, feeling the bark hit her rump. For a while, she would glance at the colt and then glance back at the direction her parents were in. Emille hoped he was friendly, but the fear in her caused her to stand in a direction that was ready to bolt.
Quiet, almost in audible, Emille asked the colt. "W-who... A-are you...?"
