User ImageLife in the Glory was going well, but he was missing something in his life. There was a place within him that felt empty. He knew what it was he needed. What he wanted, but none of the mares in his Glory were what he was looking for. His heart was looking for more than just a fling. More than a chance encounter. His heart was looking for that special mare that would fulfill it. She that would finally make it whole, complete it. So he had left Lord Mwee in charge, and he had flown off in search of her. He flew first to the sands of the sea, but he found no unicorns there on his arrival. He continued North towards the Drift, that dark, unknown region of the Wood. Not many unicorns dared enter the area of the Drift, for fear of the dangers that might lie there. He reached the river, and flew inland from the coast. He noticed a few unicorns on the ground, but they were all stallions, and he was not interested in them. He decided to head South to the Meadow. Perhaps there were new arrivals, and she might be found among them. It had been a while since he had visited the Queen.

User ImageShe arrived in the grassy meadow, unsure of what to do next. She knew that her life here was supposed to be safer than the one she had left behind, but what was she to do with herself, now that she was here? There were other new arrivals in the meadow, but as she looked around at them, she realized that none of them were winged, like herself. Was she going to be unique among her kind in this new home? Just as that thought entered her mind, her eyes caught sight of a golden spot, flying high above them. As she strained against the sun to see what it could be, it began to descend toward the meadow. A winged unicorn! She watched in awe as he came closer, and gracefully landed in the meadow, closer to the Queens residence. He furled his wings against his back and started walking away from where she stood. She couldn't resist the urge to go after him. To find out who he was, and if there were others like them here in this new place.

He landed near the Queen's home and started off to find her. There was no guarantee that she would even be here. It was not uncommon for her to travel about the kingdom, visiting the various Glories, but she had yet to visit his in the Icefury. He wondered if it was because she didn't like the colder weather. It rarely snowed down here in the Meadow, so it was always warm and balmy for the most part. As he had landed, he noticed a number of new arrivals, but he had not paid any serious attention to any of them. He figured if she were there, his heart would have told him.

She trotted after him, trying to think of what she would say when she finally caught up to him. Would he be upset by her intrusion? Could it be that he was on some special mission, and she would be delaying him? She slowed her forward motion, tossing these things around in her head. He was getting farther away from her now, and she had to make up her mind what she was going to do.

She called out to him, "Excuse me! Can you help me please?" She continued to move toward him, hoping he would hear her and turn around.

He heard the voice, and his heart skipped a beat in his chest. He stopped in his tracks and turned to put a face to that voice. Coming toward him was a mare. Her body was as white as the snow on the topmost peaks of the Icefury, in the deepest part of winter. Her mane and tail reminded him of pale rays of sun, shining through the clouds. Could this be her? Was it possible his search could be over so quickly? Stranger things had happened. He had been the only winged unicorn in his Glory until the day another fell from the sky, landing in the Icefury. Now that she had decided to join them, and had mated with another Glory member, the winged contingent had been increased by two additional members. Did this beauty coming towards him have wings? He didn't see any as he stared at her. He realized suddenly that he had not answered her, but had simply been standing there staring at her.

"Were you addressing me my lady? If so, how may I help you?"

He had heard her. She was so relieved, yet anxious at the same time. It wasn't so much that she needed help, as information. He was staring at her though, which made her nervous. What could be going through his mind as he stood there looking at her. Time seemed to drag out before he finally addressed her. His voice was deep and low, and it reminded her of thunder during a storm. It even sent chills running along her back. She couldn't stop herself from shaking her wings as the feeling moved down her spine.

Movement along her back! Were those wings? He couldn't be sure from this distance, but if they were, they were as delicate as any he had ever seen. And so white, that they seemed to blend into her back. It was as though he were seeing a mirage in the desert. She was definitely heading straight for him, but she had yet to respond to his question. "Greetings mi lady. I am Lord Baldur, and I am at your disposal. How may I be of assistance to you?"

A lord? What luck! And she suddenly realized she had not answered him when he first greeted her. What an embarrassment that was. But he greeted her a second time, and this time she would respond. "I greet you in return Lord Baldur. I am Lady Antibellum, and I thank you for your kind offer of assistance." She closed the remaining distance between them. "I have only just arrived here, and I am at a loss as to what to do with myself. I have no idea how life is ordered here. Must I present myself to the Queen? Are there dangers I must be aware of? There are so many things I don't know about this new land."

"It is a pleasure to meet you Lady Antibellum," he said. "I can understand your confusion, but if you would permit me, I would more than happy to assist you in getting to know your new home. To answer your first question, no, it is not necessary to introduce yourself to the Queen, though I am sure she would be most delighted to make your acquaintance. As for dangers, they are few and far between in this new land of ours. You should be quite safe here. Safer than we were in our old lands. Those creatures here are all creatures of magic. None here fear us because of it." As he stood there speaking to her, he took in her whole appearance. She surely did have wings, but unlike any he had seen so far on one of their kind. They were transparent. How they kept her aloft he did not know, but he knew he wanted to see her in flight for himself. She would be a vision to behold, he was sure of it.

"I am happy to hear this news Lord Baldur. May I ask, are you a member of the Queen's court? I noticed you were headed in that direction, and I was worried I might be delaying you from some important business." She wondered if this stallion might not be the mate or consort of the Queen. He was certainly handsome enough. His strong, powerful wings looked like they could carry him for days without tiring. Her own wings were strong enough to lift her off the ground, but she could not fly for long periods of time without landing to rest.

"A member of her court? Why no my dear lady. I am nowhere near worthy to be counted among her courtiers. No, my duty lies to the South, in the Icefury Mountains. I am the leader of a glory of unicorns who defend the mountains in the South from any dangers that might lie on the other side. My purpose in being here today was simply to visit the Queen if she is here. She was not expecting me today. So my time is entirely at your disposal. Would you like a tour of the land?" He was hoping she would say yes, as he wanted very much to spend more time in her company, and learn more about her past. She was clearly not attached to another unicorn. or she would not be seeking him out for answers to her questions.

Leader of a Glory? She had really lucked out in meeting him. She had lived in a mountainous region before coming here, but the name of the mountains here gave her pause. Icefury? That was an imposing name, but he was willing to escort her around the kingdom, and that meant more time in his charming company. She wondered if he really was as charming as he seemed. She guessed only time would tell. "That must be a very rewarding, and sometimes challenging responsibility, being the leader of a group. How many members do you have? I came from a very small group before coming here, and the others thought I was wrong for choosing to leave. However, I no longer wished to be constantly on the move, running away from those who would see us dead. I wanted to live my life in peace, the way it had been. I still don't understand what changed the way humans viewed us. Why they suddenly had such a mistrust of all things magical. Our kind never did anything to harm them. But I digress. You have offered me your precious time, and here I stand, speaking of inconsequential things, when I could be having you show me around my new home."
