PRINCESS ISLAND

General Information
Maintaining a superior defense is the pride of the Moon Division, defending even at the expense of attacking. However, this can be hard, especially for trainees who just got new magic weapons full of glowing and powers. Thus the Princess Island. At the center of the island sits a princess who will do absolutely nothing to protect herself, and it's up to you to build defenses that will withstand shadowling attacks so she she doesn't die in a horribly realistic manner.

There's four main paths for shadowling's to travel through, and you have 3 types of building materials to create your defenses from: straw bales, wood, and bricks. The sturdier the material, the sturdier the barrier, but the fewer you can build in the allotted time. After a set amount of time, the princess will crush a pumpkin pill, attracting varying amounts of lurking shadowlings. You get to watch helplessly from the observation station, without getting to attack yourself.

These creature are extremely weak and ill formed, coming up against a solid defense they will disperse, but in turn they also weaken said defense. When a defense goes down, they go right to the princess and attack her. Should she survive the wave, you get to go back down, rebuild, and do it again.

If you fail: the princess has died, horribly, and you've wasted a lot of time on this only to look fairly incapable. All things considered? Most pleasant course to fail.

If you win: peen points and bragging rights go to those with the healthiest princess and lasted through the most attack waves.
If you choose to go beyond 5 rounds, switch the enemy dice roll to 4 d20s.

    Mechanics
  • Your princess has 20 hp
  • First, roll the strength of you defense, using the dice for whichever building type you choose.

    Brick: 4 d12
    Wood: 8 d6
    Hay bales: 12 d4

The order of the die determine the HP for each barrier location. For example, with bricks, rolling 5/6/8/1, would mean that path 1 has 5 HP, path 2 has 6 HP and so on. With a wood roll of 3/3/3/1/2/5/5/2, the first 2 dice would equal the amount of the first path. Brick would be the least math-y of the building materials (you lazy asses.)
  • Roll 4 d12 for the attacking forces. Once again the order of the dice correspond with the path being affected. Then do the math to determine the status of your defenses and princess.
    Example:
    My defenses are 5/6/8/10
    The attackers are 3/7/3/8

    The result defenses are 2/-1/5/2
Negative numbers are taken off the princesses HP, leaving her at 19 HP.
  • Go back and rebuild your defenses in the same manner as before, you'll be building on top of old defenses so you add the new defense HP to the remaining defense HP. Negative numbers = 0 HP for the defense, not negative HP.
  • Minimum rounds to complete the course is 3

    Bonus Mechanics
  • Their defense expertise allows them to build slightly sturdier barriers. This applies to all paths that start at 0 hp. They do not stack. So if you are re-building on a barrier that lasted from an existing round, this bonus does not apply, as it is already still in effect.

  • Trainees: 0 hp bonus
  • Moon Trainees: +1 hp bonus to each path
  • Hunters: +1 hp to each path
  • Moon Hunters: + 2 hp to each path

Ofelia needed to do a bit more training, she needed to get stronger and prove more of her worth to the Deus. It wasn't like she thought she was doing bad, she had been promoted after all and had gone with Deryk on a mission, but there was a need to show them all that she had a way to use all runic weapons without having any trouble.

As a Sun Hunter this had to be expected of her, right? Wasn't she supposed to be able to use everything as the first line of attack? There was no need for her to learn anything that involved defense, she was supposed to die out there (or something) and so she moved through and started looking at the different testing she could do.

The Sun course, she'd done. The Death course, she'd done. The Life one as well was completely, leaving her with Mist and Moon - for the time being she selected Moon. Build a wall, keep a "princess" alive? Seemed easy enough.

And then she saw the golem she had drawn, created, and she chuckled, thinking to take a picture of it later. For now she just started with brick on the walls, setting up four paths of protection.

Surprisingly she did pretty well, seeing only two of her four look less than good. They were still above the halfway point and Ofelia blew a kiss to the Princess, waiting for the pill to be popped. There was nothing she could do now, just wait and see, and she held her breath as she waited to see what would happen.

Of course she knew the weak spot would be taken down and Ofelia bit at her lower lip as she watched a few of the creatures get pass the first stop path and get to the princess. It wasn't bad, only two from that round managed to get to it, and the Sun trainee scrambled down from her booth and hurried back over to try and see if everything would be okay.

The princess was still standing, that was awesome. How many more rounds? Didn't matter, she needed to rebuild.

Ofelia gathered some bricks together and started stacking again, prepping everything for another round. She had to last five of them, right? So far she'd made it through one with barely any scratches on her Princess and if she kept everything working well then she wouldn't need to worry anymore, right?

Of course the first path wasn't done as well as she wanted it to but as soon as she was done stacking the others, on her way back to path one, she noticed the princess move and crush the pill in its hand. The shadowlings were coming, Ofelia just threw some rocks together, and she ran towards her platform to wait and see what happened next.

That failure on the first path was coming back to bite Ofelia hard in the a**, and as she watched her Princess get swarmed from that side she cursed herself in as many languages she knew (which was only one) and she waited to see what would happen when it was all over.

The end result still had her Princess standing, thankfully not quite at half health, and the teen hissed between her teeth as the all clear to set back up sounded. Dammit, dammit.

Ofelia had a bit more time the third round to get things done, seeing as she skipped the ones that looked okay and headed straight for the first one that had been so weak. She quickly stacked onto it, pleased as a peach to see it was looking much better, and then she ran off and went after the rest with the same zeal and enthusiasm as before.

Maybe she'd pass this on her first try after all!

Everything was fine, her Princess survived the flood without so much as a flinch. Ofelia let out a loud whoop from her platform, ignoring any stares she might have gotten from anyone nearby, and she waited for the all clear the be sounded.

She could do this, Ofelia could do this.

Yeah, Ofelia had this except for one small part but as long as it was only one side, not all sides, she didn't care. The bricks were set, she took a deep breath, and ran back to her platform. Only one more round after this, she was not going to give up.

She needed bragging rights and this was actually turning out to be way more fun than she actually thought it could be. This was a ton of fun, her Princess looked so adorable.

Crap, she'd been overly confident. Her princess had taken some damage, nothing that would totally kill her, but unless Ofelia could seriously buff up for the next round she was going to watch her golem die.

She did make it pass three rounds though, which was all was needed to win, but five was such a nice number she wanted to go with that for now. As soon as the sound was given as the all clear the teen sighed and moved down for the last time.

Ofelia just.....didn't even try. She tossed a few bricks, sighed a little, and went back to her platform. The last wall was strong enough to hold a little, right?

She'd have to wait and see.

And her Princess was fine. Ofelia waited for the end result to be called, and when it was she moved from her booth to go and see it one last time.

It was so awesome, she managed to pass on her first try, and Ofelia skipped down to her Princess and walked over. The golem looked at her with its single eye and grinned, still hanging in there.

Awkwardly giving herself - yes, she'd managed to draw her own golem, a hug, Ofelia felt proud. Proud enough that it was time to go file the report that she was done, way to go Ofelia.

PASSED
