Me’urra was feeling a bit put out. The lovely dark angel of his memories wasn’t the same as when he met her again. Now she seemed to be so dim and dare he say it, dull? She still had a bit of fight left in her but not the same kind of fire that she had once possessed. On his way back to his mother and her ‘friends’ Me’urra felt a bit sulky. Of course he would always be civil after all her father was the one who was going to be training him to fight but still Me’urra missed that cold spark that Talu used to have that just dissipated as she had aged, unless something else had facilitated that change. Perhaps he should investigate to find out more. Yes that might be worth looking into. Smirking he let a silent laugh echo in his mind. If something had changed Talu then all he had to do was to change her back by breaking what changed her. Simple right?

Having only recently shed her blanket Nocturne was still getting used to walking. She was steady enough but had to stop every so often to make sure she wouldn’t fall. The world around her was bright and full of new things. She personally didn’t give a damn. Blanket or no blanket it made no difference. Sun or no sun it really didn’t matter. All she wanted was, well she wasn’t sure what she wanted. All she knew is seeing others wasn’t something that interested her too much. Still the inevitable always happened she saw a male walking toward her. He was smiling but he didn’t even seem to see her. Staying where she was she figured he would pass right by her and that would be the end of that. Closing her eyes she stood perfectly still. It had worked when she was a blanket to get ignored so why not now even though her blanket was lost in the winds?

Keeping a brisk happy pace he noticed a filly standing off to the side of the path he was taking. It was hard to miss her after all her hair sparkled in the dappled light of the path. Still it was strange she was just standing there with her eyes shut. He wondered what was wrong. It really wasn’t his business but he felt like being a bit destructive at the moment and anything that he could make worse he most certainly would. So he took his time strolling up to her keeping his steps as quite as he possibly could he even stepped off the path and onto the softer soil to help achieve this end. Moving forward he stop just before the female and kept his face level with hers. He blinked slowly and kept the smirk on his face. This would be something fun, no doubt about that. It was just like that he waited as the seconds stretched on into minutes.

Listening she heard the steps of the other Azrein come closer. They were so quite now. It was odd, weren’t steps supposed to get louder? At least in her experience they did. What this Azrein something else that wasn’t normal like the others? She waited until the silence around her stretched on for so very many heartbeats. Finally deciding that the other had gone past she opened her eyes. She found herself staring into the eyes of the other Azrein. Internally she groaned. Why did he have to be here like that, why not just pass by like she wanted him too? She just kept staring at him and didn’t bother to say a word. This had been another tactic she found that managed to scare others away from her. She found that if she stared long enough at another Azrein they would get uncomfortable and then eventually leave when she didn’t bother to say anything to them. It would take a while but then she would be left alone with her sweet silence once again.

She was just staring at him. There had been no sign of shock in her expression. If anything there had been a hint of dismay in her eyes like being close to him brought her irritation. It was definitely not what Me’urra had expected. He wanted to see her jump or make a noise. This silence was something new to him. As she stared he couldn’t help but want to talk. Still to talk before she did might give away more than he was willing to. He was still annoyed with Talu’s change after all and he didn’t want to convey annoyance to the new Azrein before him. It would be bad form to start off on the wrong hoof with someone that he didn’t even know yet. In this land this little filly might well be the daughter of an important member of the Six like Talu was, and Me’urra didn’t want to get on their bad side just yet.

Maybe he couldn’t talk, still even if he couldn’t he must have started to get annoyed at the silent stare by now. No one else had lasted this long and Nocturne had some practice at this from mare that asked where her mother was to other youngsters who had wanted to play with her. Narrowing her eyes she glared at him. He showed no sign of going away. Sighing she supposed it was time to talk. Maybe if she started to talk he would go away? Oh that might work. She had seen a female Azrein chatting before and following a male that looked like he wanted nothing more than to get away from her. Surely over talking was as bad as not talking. She could try that. “Hello.” There it was a great start in her mind. Her voice was a bit rusted from disuse but she knew a lot of words just by laying in a field and listening to those who passed all around her.

Ha! He had finally gotten her to talk. If Me’urra hadn’t already had a smirk on his maw then one would have surely formed. Leaning forward he did something that he had only done to one other. He kissed the girl. Surely this would get a reaction out of her. He was ready for a scream or a shout or something. He knew his silver tongue would help him out of many situations so he wasn’t too worried. Still nothing happened. He waited patiently wondering if perhaps this one wasn’t a bit slow.. She gave no sign of even having been kissed at all. Well this was odd. He decided to investigate a bit more than just exposing her to new kinds of stimulus that would have made others jump and run. “Well hello yourself. Might I be graced with the chance to learn the name of one as lovely as you my dear? “ It was a trite line but it was so often effective that Me’urra didn’t have a shadow of a doubt in his mind that it wouldn’t work on this girl as well.

What was he asking her? Her name? Well they why not just ask for her name and be done with it. There was no point to all that other flowery speech. Somehow it was not going to be easy to over talk this one. Still if she wanted to be left alone the best way to do that was to be as uninteresting as possible. “Shadowspirit.” She didn’t bother giving her real name which was nocturne. The less the male knew the better. Maybe he would just go away after this? Doubtful. No no no she had decided she was going to over talk him so just hoping that would leave wasn’t going to work. She had to put in some effort. “Your name dear?” There it wasn’t as long as the male’s pretty speech but it was more then she really wanted to say. She watched as the male blinked at her phrasing. She kept her eyes on his and her ears swiveled back a bit as she listened to the sound of a bird call somewhere behind her. It was too loud for her likely but most things were. This one in front of her certainly was far far to loud.

Dear? Was she mocking him? Judging from the flat expression on her face he would have guessed no, but he wasn’t so certain. “Me’urra my darling Shadowspirit. I like your name it sounds so very dark. Care to tell me how you got your name?” He slowly let his smirk melt into a gentle smile. If he pretended to be nice to her he was sure she would talk more. It worked so often then he could find out what had been wrong with her and decide to break her or just let her suffer. In a way he was like his mother in this aspect still he was always a gentleman which in some way made him like the father he had never known. Rakai. The name came unbidden into his thoughts and he wasn’t certain how he felt about the stallion. This turmoil was Talu’s he thought. had she not changed then all these thoughts wouldn’t be happening. It might be a good thing or a bad thing he would think on it latter, for now he really wanted to just pick this little filly apart and then have some time to think it over.

“I made it up just now.” It was the truth in a way. Nocturne had named herself and never known the direct love of a parent. She was lucky she survived the harsh weather of the isle enough to grow to this stage of her life. Still it was everyday life for Nocturne so she didn’t know that. She was surprised when the male started to laugh at her. He backed up a few steps which made her feel better but he kept laughing. She had no idea what could possibly be so funny. This Me’urra was very strange in that he couldn’t seem to take the hint that she wanted him gone. So finally she gave up on talking him away and just flat out as plain as day said what she wanted. “I don’t like others go away.” She watched Me’urra stop laughing and jerk straight up. Ah that had gotten through. She would just have to state upfront that she didn’t want others around and they would leave. Nocturne was thrilled at the idea of being able to make others leave her alone then she could enjoy the silence in peace.

It was just too funny. She had made up her own name just like that? It was so ridiculous that Me’urra had to laugh. He couldn’t help himself. He backed up so that he wouldn’t crack her in the head as he lowered his own to breathe. He had never heard of an Azrein just making up their own names. Still it figured that it would happen from time to time, but still to just admit it like that. This girl was nothing like Me’urra had ever known. He was even more shocked by her next comment. Being sobered up from his jolly mood a flash of anger went through him. She wanted him gone, well then he would just stick around to annoy her. As soon as the flash came thought it was gone. She wasn’t just trying to get rid of him he didn’t think. She was serious like when she admitted she made up her own name. She was just being completely honest. This was new to Me’urra a nonviolent filly that was honest. What was the isle coming to? Still he couldn’t’ just leave her alone not when he wanted to ruin her day and find out more about her. “Well I don’t like many other Azrein either but I’ll be honest with you. If I’m talking to you than no other Azrein this way would come up and talk to me, besides you’re not much of a talker my lady Shadowspirit. So it’s much easier to deal with you than many other who would be more grating to my ears. Your voice is as sweet as the softest bird song. Still I must ask is that what you were doing when you shut your eyes and just stood here?“

2. What did he just say? If she were with another Azrein the others wouldn’t come up and bother her? It made sense the more she thought about it. She never approached large groups since there was one always talking and that was annoying, but if one was talking then any others who came up were barraged by the talking one. The system was beautiful now that Nocturne understood it. All she had to do was join a group and she wouldn’t have to speak and could let others. She liked it. Now all she had to do was fine someone who was chatty. This male might do after all they had been talking and he did know her name. “Then stay with me.” She didn’t bother to explain her sudden change of heart or the fact that she was just using him for her own gain. If he did get to annoying then she would just leave and find someone else to stand by. Would she have to have him nearby all the time? She really hoped not. Maybe in time she would be able turn out the talking of the one next to her, then her life would be blessedly quite once more. Now she just had to figure out a way to shut him up for now when he was near to her. “Just talk less.” That was fairly clear right?
