Akira is a rather distant person, not cold-hearted or mean, but quiet. He doesn't talk much to people besides Hikari. When he is around Hikari, he tends to open up a little more and converse with others, but generally says significantly less than her. He talks most when he's alone with Hikari, because that is when he feels most open and comfortable. Since she is his only friend, he completely trusts her, and therefore knows that she won't judge him or ridicule what he says.
Most of the other people Akira interacts with, like his fellow peers, pass him over for his quietness, or remark about his unusual appearance. With his white hair and incredibly pale skin, it's hard not to think something's wrong with him. He is mostly used to these comments and the teasing he receives from others, but it's obviously not something he enjoys.
Since Hikari is his only friend, he will do anything for her, no matter what time or what place. He's even braved eating her food, which could probably kill lesser beings. He has endured quite a few trips to the hospital to get his stomach pumped out after eating her food, since she's constantly trying to improve and make it edible for people. He will never understand how she is able to tolerate the food she eats.
Toward his family, he acts polite, but is still fairly quit and distant unless they talk to him directly. Akira was born in Karakura town Eighteen years ago, his family was fairly rich, living much more wealthy and 'better' lives than most of those who lived in Karakura town. When Akira was born though, his appearance, and how he acted was very unusual.. His hair was silver, his kin was pure white, his eyes were golden with slit pupils, and he did not cry, he just had a neutral expression on his face, but he was alive.. This already had his parents concerned about his future, so until he was at the age of six, they kept him secluded to a small group of selected people, who took very good care of him.. They gave him everything he wanted, at first it was great, he was a playful, curious child that had fun with just about everything.. He felt as if he was the center of the world, but at the age of six he started to attend school.. That's when him being the center of the world suddenly stopped, while he was away for school anyways..
When he started attending school, he already began to realize why he only saw those few peple all of his life.. Because he was a freak, he was different or frightening to look at for most children because of his appearance, when he was just an innocent child behind his unusual appearance, his fellow classmates ignored him since the first day of school.. And if you think that students would have become more accepting of him later on, you would have been wrong.. All through elementary school and middle school, and even part of high school he remained ignored by students, which caused him to think more negetively of them and himself. At home to, life grew boring, which changed his personality somewhat much like the students treating him their way did.. He began to grow bored with everything involving his life..
Well, at least until his Sophomore year, he was transferred to Karakura High, and on his first day, he bumped into a girl who didn't actually take off after they got up.. She had an unusual hair color, pink. Her name was Hikari Osahime, and she brought interest into his life from that first meet. After a few weeks of getting to know each other, they became friends.. His first friend, and weeks later, maybe months they became close, best friends you could say, maybe a bit closer.. Over that time, Hikari shared with him a special secret that was only known by her family, she and her family all had the ability to see Spirits, the dead, could you believe it? The news was hard to believe at first, but Akira accepted it anyways because after all, she was his first, best and only friend..
Hikari coming into his life actually made him start to enjoy some things again.
