i dunno if this belongs in the masturbation sticky, or here, so if its missplaced, sorry about that.
if you (as a parent) found out you son/daughter masturbated? i would like to know, becuase i think im on the verge of being caught and/or found out. maybe if i can get some opinions, i can get some idea of what to expect from my parents, i realize every parent is different, some are ok with masturbation, some arent, (or so ive heard), so im hoping for some imput so i can get a general idea of what to expect. thank you for taking the time for reading this

I started talki ng to my kids about masterbation when they were pre puberty. WE talked about wet dreams first and then self pleasure. The message I wanted to get across is that it is normal, natural, and personal. We talked about acceptable places (bedroom, shower, and such).
I now respect my children's privacy and knock before entering their rooms. However if I ever did walk in in error I would simply appologise for forgetting to knock. Later I might ask if he wanted to talk about it, and see where we go from there.
I am one of those Masterbation is just fine parents. Mebby you should ask your parent how they feel about it?

I'm not a parent yet, but I plan to do the same as Krys. I would rather my child learn how to get pleasure from self-stimulation than go out and try to get it from other kids.

Yep, that is pretty much my thinking on it. I have never had any hang ups about self pleasure, it is normal natural and useful. I want my kids comfortable with their own bodies and sexuality. Honestly, most babies find out early that their privates parts are fun to playu with, the real challenge is teaching them to be private about it as they grow older without giving them the feeling that it is BAD!
Honestly, you parents probable have already seen you play with your self... just not with the umm seriousness that one does as a teen. Most have a pretty healthy view they just would feel a bit embarrased to invade a child's privacy that way and might get a bit edgy.
Remember these people used to bath you and change your diaper! You do not have anything thay have not seen before ( and even cleaned poopies off of!)

I was actually watching a video recently on teaching sex education to adults with mental disabilities. It's a very good video and can very much be applied to talking to children about the matter. It had an extensive section on teaching them appropriate times and places for that sort of thing. It's from the 70s so it's a bit dated, but it's still very relevant, I think. It's about 20 minutes long. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2987243478639579087
