He ran in tears, little hooves thumping on the ground with every step that carried him away from the Vitterfolk territory and the horrible elders who thought he was bad. It wasn't his fault that two of them now walked with a limp, he did not even remember what happened that night, just that someone large had come to take him to a new place with his siblings and then made sure that no one else let them go back home. Saryen did not know why he was no longer allowed to see his parents, instead only to stay within the confines of one of the many glades in the area. His sisters were looked upon more favorably but he was sure he could see the look of distrust every time they looked at him.

And then today...

Of of the older stallions had returned back with long gashes in his hide, blood drying thick on his coat. His mate, a winged mare with horns, hovered close by worrying before turning her gaze towards him, her look turning to hate. It scared him, more than anything in the world. He wanted his parents back, his mother especially, but she had not come with them to this leafy prison. Saryen heard them talking about another who was also attacking now, one who resembled Malis. They were worried it might be her sister, or someone close by and the winged mare stared at him again as if he was the one responsible. He worried that maybe it was, maybe he was the cause of it all and felt the tears start rolling down his cheeks. He couldn't stay here, the foal couldn't stick around, he was better of elsewhere but didn't know where to go. Malis came into view, the largest of all of them in this close knit herd. She looked towards him and frowned, coming up to him and kneeling down. "What be t' matter little one?" He could tell there was concern in her eyes but that made it worse. If it really was her sister who had attacked them... and it really was his fault...

Saryen couldn't take it any more and bolted. he did not know where he was going and didn't care for the moment.

For as many times as her mother had lectured her about staying in sight, about not wandering off, about how her propensity for unluckiness would get her into real trouble one of these days, it seemed Lyssia was blind or deaf to most lessons from her mother. Or her brother. Or... well, anyone, really. In one ear and out the other. Well, that wasn't it, exactly- she listened, but it never quite seemed relevant.

Until now.

Oh, dear.

Which way was home again? The filly stumbled to a halt as she looked up to take in her surroundings with a twist to her mouth, shifting back and forth a bit in restless confusion. Those trees looked familiar, but Lyssia was sure she hadn't been this way before... aha! There was a path, through those bushes and deep into the brush. She grinned to herself with a pleased flutter of her wings and started down the path, paying no heed to the dark shadows that engulfed the path she traveled. Clearly, if there was a path here, it was meant to be followed, right? Right.

Humming pleasantly to herself and placing a skip into her walk- which made her trip over her own feet, twice, but she paid it no mind- Lyssia was so raptly focused on the path before her that she didn't hear or see the blur of cerulean until it barreled into her at full speed, knocking the wind out of both of them.

"Oof!"

Spindly little legs got tangled around one another as two little bodies struggled to right themselves, letting out exclamations of pain and surprise as one or the other attempted to use leverage to straighten themselves out, until Lyssia managed to pull herself away from the mess. Huffing agitatedly as she smoothed her ruffled feathers and mane and caught her breath, she turned to face the little bundle of blue fur that had knocked them both silly, and immediately stilled. There were tears on that face, an expression of fear etched into it, as if the devil himself were on his heels, and immediately Lyssia softened, the rebuke dying on her tongue.

"What is it? What's wrong? Are you running from someone?"

He had not been looking where he was going, more worried about what was behind him. It was not until he crashed into the filly that he realized how far his little hooves had taken him. His head hurt and he felt dizzy, which did nothing to stop the tears running down his face. Saryen looked up from the ground, his blue, spotted hide streaked with mud to see the concerned look of a fluttercorn. Or at least she looked like one at first glance, it wasn't until his head stopped swimming that he realized she had feathers, not the thin membranes that Irlina used to take off from the ground. In fact, she looked nothing like anyone he had met in both the Vitterfolk and WillowGlen herds. He sniffed a few times, letting his heart stop beating so fast and shook his head to get the rest of the daze out. "Hi umm..." He suddenly did not want to tell her about the others for fear that she would turn away from him like they did. "I... I got lost... and there was an eagle... I mean a bear..." Saryen was bumbling and didn't really know which way to turn. "I... I was... I don't know. Ummm... I'm Saryen." His name seemed to be the safest option right now. At least she wouldn't be able to tell him who he was by that. She wouldn't know about the trolls and the attacks right?

Concerned as she was about the blue foal and his mysterious origins, the somber atmosphere about the winged filly seemed to abruptly evaporate at the mention of an eagle (and the a bear), and she grinned at the prospect of seeing one. She wasn't blind to his tears, but her brother had always dried her tears from a scraped knee or a game gone awry by making her smile, couldn't she do the same? What better to do so than the prospect of an adventure? It certainly didn't occur to her that his tears might have been caused by something other than their collision.

She wasn't intentionally inconsiderate, but her oblivious nature did little to help her in terms of... well, lots.

"Oh, a bear?! Neat! Is it still around?" Beaming brightly, and completely oblivious to his discomfort- and the obvious lie- Lyssia peered behind him, hoping to catch a glimpse of said bear. "Mommy told me about them- do they really stand on two legs?" The small filly was practically vibrating with excitement at the idea, undaunted by the fact that she had also been told that bears were dangerous; and for that matter, talking to strangers wasn't much better. There were exceptions to every rule, right? This colt was nice enough- he'd said 'Hi', bad strangers wouldn't be polite enough to say 'hi'! ...Would they?

"Oh, manners!" she giggled sheepishly at her own blunder, dipping her head the way she had seen her mother greet strangers, and only barely missed scoring his forehead with the sharp tip of her horn. She didn't notice, of course, and fought to keep her balance at the gesture. "I'm Lyssia! Nice to meet you, Saryen!" She paused to tilt her head a bit at the funny-sounding name, but even Lyssia drew the line of rudeness at saying that out loud. Mommy had taught her manners, after all.

Why she had taken those lessons to heart and not the ones about what could potentially be dangerous was anyone's guess.
