Sun Hunter SHADOW RUN General Information The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.
If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.
Mechanics You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel. Simply roll for attack as you would in battle. If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings. After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.
Bonus Mechanics This bonus is consumable. The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.
Trainees: 0 recovery Sun Trainees: 1 recovery Hunters: 1 recovery Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries

Dakota stretched as he got orders from the higher ups. Well not really orders, more like very insightful advice to do some training. With a newbie.
Dakota groaned as he got up and dressed and stared at the text. he didn't know newbies. He knew oldbies...or older oldbies. Did that mean he'd have to search randomly?
Fuuuuuck, why did Dues have to be so odd with their little request? Out of his dorm with his coat still being pulled on, the hunter went to the life labs to ask a few of the techs if they knew a newbie he could snag into a training session.
Hopefully at least one of the lab techs knew something...usually they just turned s**t bad. yeah...Bad. Except Clerise, she was cool.
His thoughts jumbled as he yawned, entering the life labs and looking around, orange eyes landing on a hunter with goggles and wearing a turtleneck. Briefly the moon hunter wondered just how the dude could wear the thing. It wasn't cold and it wasn't hot but those types of clothes always made the moonie feel like he was getting strangled. He continued to stare awkwardly before speaking up.
"Yo dude, you a life Tech?" he asked the hunter, arms crossed.

Melvin was in the life labs, there to be of any assistance and hoping he could maybe learn more about what they were fighting. When he heard there was Life Labs, he already had ideas of learning under a group about the genetic makeup of the shadows that haunted him all his life. To pour himself on studying reference materials and hardcore theory.
Instead, he was filling a printer with more paper and pushing a button to watch it feed properly and make sure it did it's test paper properly.
This was work for a guy who worked at Staples. Not someone who spent 2 years in college to, if he was recruited after, graduate in BioChemistry.
Sighing, he heard someone mention that their coffee was cold and he already felt himself be demoted from Staples Worker to Secretary.
That was until someone walked in and pointed him out. As awkward as it was, whatever this guy wanted, he wasn't considered a real Life Tech by any of the workers here. He would be a good choice in the real world, but his studies didn't matter for s**t here.
"Me? I'm..." He sighed. "I'm just new to the Life division. If you want someone to do the actual work, you have to ask them." Someone was still taking about coffee, their voice rising up in volume. "If you want me to fill a printer, then I'm your man." He said, his voice a dry monotone as he only wanted to stand on a table and everyone that he actually KNEW things.

Dakota stared at the hunter as he stuffed paper in the printer.
What a sad...sad existence for a lab tech. Wasn't this place about exploding s**t and minipets or something? And Dr. H and Clarice and Clerise and Reine. Or well...what use to be of Reine, he hadn't seen the life to death trainee in forever.
"Oh...your new?" Dakota latched on to that and then went over to the hunter, wrapping his arm around his neck. "Good, I need you. I'm a Moon intermediate trainee and we have a training course that needs to be run. No choices, its a order."
And then he carried the shorter life hunter out of the lab, laughing as someone mention something about Coffee and something about ******** you, order a starbucks and stuff like that.
"Okay so training...." The moon hunter said as he carried, "Is actually the sun course but they like it better when hunters do it in pairs. Friendly competition." Dakota began, "And your going to be my pair...or whatever. Because your new. Fresh meat. We get stuck with ya'll every now and again. Wow your kinda of light for a dude, you a guy right? Right?"

Melvin instantly tensed when the stranger threw his arm around his shoulder, and made a motion to read and pluck the arm off him, but he was already being ushered out of the room, causing him to fluster and then quickly set the ream of paper he had on a table before leaving the labs. "..But I gotta..I'm supposed to..." Then he realized he was only doing slave work there and let it drop. They could get their own damn coffee.
Still, this guy was too close, but when he tried to wiggle free, he was just shoved with more vigor to wherever the hell he was going. It seemed be was dealing with a superior in some sense, not from his division but higher ranking, and was being ordered. Oh right, he could be ordered to do things around here. He had to wonder if this would be any better than fixing a printer.
Training. Okay, he had done training. Well, he had failed miserably at training. Great. Things were not looking good so far. Then he was insulted on various levels. Reaching back, he started to take the man's arm and try to remove it from his shoulders. "Of course I'm a guy. Do I even sound like a girl? Being skinny doesn't mean I'm a chick." What did he have to do to prove that to people. Take a snapshot of his d**k?! Saliva was snickering in the back of his mind.
He patted his chest to show he had to tits. "See?" He hoped he didn't need to prove the point past this.
"You're a Moon hunter, doing a Sun course. Could I at least have your name?" He asked, wanting to know who this maniac was.

"The name's Dakota. Dakota rainstar. Flirt extraordinaire and one of the three members of the popular and gaining popularity Moonsync band." Dakota puffed his chest out proudly, "Not so bad right? could be worst me thinks. The life labs are always a mystery to me." He laughed obviously not caring about Melvin's insultation because...life was too short to get insulted?
Unless it was him getting insulted and then he threw fits. Or responded well enough back. Usually the latter. Anyways...
"Yep, Moon hunter doing the Suns course. On orders. Its good for the soul anyways. Keeps you strong and alert since we are on attack always." Dakota nodded and then blinked, "being skinny and a hunter means that your going to have to deal with a lot of questions. Your a lot smaller then me dude, plus you got pretty locks...PLUS you work in the life labs. I've never seen so many dudes under Dr. H...ever. Automatic reaction is that he and lance have a harem of female hunters in their divisions. Oh Lance is the mist assistant. Molly talks about him...who is the irish mist hunter too. She's a killer in more ways then one if you know what I mean..." He elbowed Melvin with a playful wink and then...
"So what's your name skinny?" Dakota said as they made it to the training ground, looking Melvin over one more time.

"Dakota...Rainstar?" This guy's last name was Rainstar??!! A man who was in a band called Moonsync. It was too ridiculous to think of someone who probably had some hippie parents to grow up being in some band. What a name!! Then again, Melvin had a last name that had caused him plenty of trouble in school. He really had no room to laugh, and he swallowed it down.
It was easy to get serious when Dakota went on a rant of people he had never met, meaning he could make no mental connection to them, but pieced together what the man was saying. "You really have no place talking about my hair. I've seen plenty of men around here with hair longer than the women, your's included." Sure, his hair might have been a little longer than the short buzz-cut that some guys preferred, and he took extensive time in the shower to make sure it was clean, rinsing and repeating per instruction, meaning that it was very clean and well taken care for, but that didn't mean he was a girl!
"I didn't know the Life division had that many women. I would think a science-based division would have more men." It was statistically proven that more men went into science and math majors than women.
The elbowing caused his to rub his side, but he didn't say anything about it. It just seemed Dakota had a large personality, and was more touchy than some guys. "Melvin Wood." He managed.

"Yep, Dakota Rainstar. Dakota you know...Please don't call me by my full name, its kinda of weird." Dakota of course didn't have hippie parents. He had native american ones who believed that their lineage came from raining stars...aka meteor showers. Big believers in the earth and such. And the band was the moonsync made of hunters...such as Marcus, Harrison and Dakota.
"No more like your hair...kinda of curls up like a girls. But I will agree...I think Rep is giving us a race for the longest hair right now...and then Caelius use to have some fantastic locks before they got burned off...." He looked down in contemplation before shrugging. "I like my hair long though, gives the ladies something to pull on in bed besides my big john..." No shame, Dakota. No shame.
"It seems that as far as hunters...we have more men in the sun and moon divisions. Again, Life and Mist seem to have all the females. Mist use to be the best division. Cass, Candace, Molly, Aria, Emma...ladies. Beautiful ladies. A harem of ladies...and then they got Lance and a couple of other males. It was a sad day indeed." Dakota ranted.
"Well Mr. Wood...heh..." he laughed, holding up a finger. "Let me just get that out Cowboy Woody, Let me know if someone has poisoned the water hole kay?" Dakota snickered as they entered the arena for the sun training and nodded to the older hunters who were on standby. "So let me lead by example...this is how we start the training!" Dakota grinned as he pulled Chama out and rushed into the shadows, swirling around in a flurry of flames as the shadows disappeared with his attacks.

Melvin frowned at the discussion. "If you want your hair for that, why isn't it in ponytails?" He asked, looking at Dakota with as unemotional of a expression as he could pull off. Honestly. Most of these men had hair longer than the women, and they were giving HIM a hard time about his hair? Sure, it was well taken care for, but at least it was short like most men wore it. Short of being bald or a military buzz-cut, it was much more masculine than some of the other men he saw, and cleaner too.
As for Woody, he had to roll his eyes, and crossed his arms to let Dakota get it all out of his system. He hated Toy Story. Ruined his name forever. If Wood wasn't hard enough to have growing up, the second that movie got popular, people were trying to put cowboy hats on him and leaving rubber snakes on his desk. All in good humor they said, but it was just downright annoying.
Following the hunter, he looked up as Dakota gestured to another man in a observation room. Unlike the Life course where there seemed to be no one - aside from those who shot darts at him, there was someone observing. He soon found out why.
The room was FILLED with shadow creatures, enough to make the Life trainee step slowly back and looked wide-eyed at the room. Oh no. No-No-No-No-No. He didn't want to be here. Bad room. Very bad room.
But Dakota didn't seem to even notice, instead "demonstrating" by jumping in and starting to just bash the creatures back. It was only good that they were small, but there were MANY of them, and Melvin knew number was a bad thing. His mind traveled back to a entire room covered in centipedes and he shivered.
Dakota was waiting, and Melvin wondered how much trouble he'd get into if he just turned around and ran.
This was his life now. It was literally "do or die" here.
Breathing deep, he summoned his gun, looking down at Saliva.
Its okay, buddy. There is a lot of them. There is no way you can really miss with how many there are. Just shoot anywhere!
Melvin wasn't convinced, but he held the gun close by before he stepped into the training area. The small shadowlings were quick to respond, and jumping in place, he held out the gun and shot, taking out a small area as the egg shot out, splattered, and started to sizzle it's acid on a few of the creatures. "How would a girl pulling on my ponytail be better then her doing it without the ponytail?" Was there a trick that Melvin knew that Dakota didn't know?!?!
"Nice job for a trainee! And a life one at that! usually I don't jump headfirst in because I'm a moon but since we are doing the Sun hunters training, I really got no choice. I've been watching Rep and Jordan and Bix and Kat long enough to know though that they don't even back down." The moon hunter sighed and continued on. "How you doing back there Melvin? Feeling alright?"
Dakota said this all while slashing at the shadows that swarmed around. Finally, some good damage as well. He mentally counted out 20 so far. Hope he did his sun brothers and sisters well.Status Wave: 2 Attack Dmg: 8 Total Shadowlings taken out: 20 Recoveries left: 1

"Handlebars." He called back, trying to talk over the sounds the shadows were making, but just trying to drive the joke home. He guessed the guy never heard the term before, or only applied to women, but it sorta defeated the point of making a joke if you had to explain it. "Nevermind."
"Yeah, but I think big a** weapons sorta help with jumping in." He called back, jumping when a few shadows grouped to go for his back, where he shot them in the middle.
"Where are they all coming from?!" Is this how the Sun grouped trained? "This makes the Life course look tame!" Status Wave: 2Attack Dmg: 4 Total Shadowlings taken out: 10 Recoveries left: 0 Cause Trainees get screwed

"Are you speaking another language to me brother?" Dakota stared at Melvin as if he was speaking LIFE code or something. Which he probably was. Man Life techs...bunch of nerds.
"I think Rep and Jordan are the only one...oh and Tedan..." Who else was in sun, "Maybe Madeline....Kat has guns so she shoots things instead, same with Simon. Jerry has a bazooka...actually now that you say it..sun hunters do tend to have some powerful weapons." The moon hunter just shrugged and looked at Chama.
While she was small, she was lethal and one of the few weapons he had seen that encased herself in fire. And that was awesome. Like no really, it was.
"Of course the Life course is tame Melvin," Dakota lashed out at the shadows again, "Didn't they brief you on your duties? You guys are techs, meant to research. Suns are the first offense while Moon are the first defense. Death is gathering information, and Mist fills in where they will be."
"This is what suns face every time they go on to a mission." And he always wondered how they walked away from it. Status Wave: 3 Attack Dmg: 11 Total Shadowlings taken out: 31 Recoveries left: 1

"Yeah, I know!" He knew that Life was research, which was pretty crazy he was even in this course to begin with. He wasn't a Sun, which mean he wasn't going to deal with this much chaos, right? He wouldn't be put in this situation - yet when he was in that first mission, there were swarms of them, and they had weapons. They were even bigger, and smarter.
"But Sun can't always be there to save you, right?" He was fishing for answers. "Doesn't Life always go on the field? I haven't ever been told that I get to just stay in the labs all day." If so, he would have been more relieved.
He jumped back when another wave crawled his way, and despite the massive damage the other hunter was doing, Melvin was barely keeping them off him. Status Wave: 3Attack Dmg: 3 Total Shadowlings taken out: 13 Recoveries left: 0 Cause Trainees get screwed

"To be honest Melvin..." He swung at more shadows, "I've only seen Life camp it out. Some of the trainee's were with us, and H led us into the eye of the beast once but...You guys are more tech and lab stuff. Your guys jobs...." Dakota thought of the students they had brought back, of the minipets that are constantly experimented on...
"Suns aren't always there for us. And sometimes its hard not to have them. We're trained to be the defend for them so they don't take damage but..." He shrugged as they were swarmed again. While he was the older in the "Trainee" status...he was holding his own while Melvin was just barely cutting the line. This was obviously good for the life hunter though.
"Don't worry. This will really help your strength and well...when you complete these trainings...you can go in for Runic weapons." Dakota nodded before he was swarmed and engrossed in shadows. s**t s**t s**t.
He side stepped most of the mob but not without taking a lot of damage.

Dakota wasn't the only one getting swarmed, and if he noticed, the swarm that was attacking Dakota with renewed gusto was now swarming and covering Melvin who had tried firing but to no avail. "Oh s**t. OH s**t!" He swore, before the shadowlings pounced.
The hunter on watch was already leaving his station to come sweeping in with a massive sword to start hacking away to reach the trainee, having been waiting for just this to happen. Status Wave: 4Attack Dmg: 0 Total Shadowlings taken out: 13 Recoveries left: 0 - Swarmed!!
