Personality: Growing up, Alexander spent more time among the bears than among his fellow Herla, leading to an attitude that is, well... more aggressive and bearlike than deerlike. He isn't mean and he doesn't pick fights needlessly, he just has the forwardness and confidence of a predator rather than the flightiness of prey. In short, his personality is bigger than his body. It is very difficult to frighten or threaten Alexander... He seems to have no comprehension of the fact that with his delicate Forest Herla build and his fragile butterfly wings, some of the larger weirder mutants really could take a chunk out of his hide with no trouble. Maybe it's that rack of antlers he has. You know what they say about the size of a buck's rack.
Alexander speaks very formally, with an elegance and old-fashioned manner to his diction. He believes in many old-fashioned values, including justice, chivalry, and romance. He is quick to leap into a fray if he believes that one side is being picked on unfairly, even if it's not really his business. And around the does, he is a true gentleman and a hopeless romantic.
He is mostly crippled in his romantic endeavors, however, by his guardian. Alexander had the misfortune of picking up a human shade who was on the sociopathic side in life. So rather than having a source of wisdom, support, and guidance, he has a disembodied voice that whispers horrible things in his ear at the most inopportune moments and in general tries to make him think that he's crazy. As Alexander did not grow up with stories about Guardians, he has no idea what this voice is, and he's secretly worried that he really
is going mad.

History: Alexander was born right on the edge of Bear Territory, not precisely in it but also not precisely within the Herla Court. As a result, he never had a Guardian growing up, at least not that he was ever aware of. He learned a great deal about hunting, wild herbs, and how to survive in the wilderness from his mother and from her bear friends. As Alexander never met his father, and his mother never spoke of the buck, for a good period of his fawnhood he was fond of imagining that he was in fact half-bear. (It is his shameful secret that he held onto this belief well into his teenage years, long past the time when he should have learned that it was biologically impossible. Being half-bear is
cool.)
When at last he grew up, Alexander's restlessness kept him from sticking in one place for too long. He'd heard from a traveling group of Herla traders of a mysterious place far from his home, called the Dead City, full of adventure and danger. Eager to see it with his own eyes, Alexander bid farewell to his homeland and set off for the Dead City.
While he was there, he found a Guardian - or rather, a Guardian found him. Alexander didn't much like the sudden addition of a terrible voice in his head telling him awful things about himself, and it spooked him enough that he has no desire to return home. What if all his old friends think that he's gone mad? What if he really
has gone mad? Rather than returning to his old territory on the edge of the Bear lands, Alexander moved on to the Court of the Herla Queen. Supposedly she knows more about the Dead City than anyone, and might know how to break Alexander's curse.
