Mid afternoon on the savannah and already the land was becoming dark. Buluu was making his way through a dried up marsh that he rarely ever crossed but there had been little rain in the last moon and he believed it would be ok to cross now. Little did Buluu realize that the darkness that was taking over what had been a bright afternoon was a strong thunder storm that would soon be dropping just what the marsh was needing and what Buluu feared.
As the clouds darkened the land more and more Buluu was beginning to get nervous. He gazed up at the sky and the dark clouds that were occupying it and he could tell he was not going to like what was going to happen. He was a little under half way through what was considered the marsh land and he knew even if he turned back that the rain would fall long before he could make it out. He knew it would be best to keep on moving and just hope the rain in the clouds took it's time coming down instead of coming down in a rush. If the rain came down too fast the land he was standing on could easily turn into a rushing river due to overflow and he would be swept away with the water.
Buluu decided to pick up his pace to a trot and get out of the marsh land a little faster. He didn’t want to run as that would wear him out to fast so he stuck to his trot hoping that the quickened pace would help him get his behind out of the marsh and onto land that would not threaten a flash flood. With a bright flash lightning struck the land and a loud boom followed that signaled the rain to fall. As Buluu had feared it came down hard and within moments he was soaked and trotting through mud. His feet were covered with mud and the quickly sogged down earth was proving harder to move through.
He knew he needed to get his tail moving and quickly. He had nothing left to lose now in the strong down pour. He took off running.

The rain was coming down extremely hard. The down pour almost reminded Buluu of a waterfall he had seen as an adolescent. The water was beginning to pool all around Buluu now making running very difficult for him. He splashed through the water raising his paws as high as he could to make moving a little less difficult.
The farther he managed to get the deeper the water got. He knew he wasn’t going down hill but that the water was getting deeper and it was getting deeper very quickly. He wasn’t a very good swimmer and his fear of water was beginning to creep up on him.

With his fear of water creeping up on him Buluu was beginning to get frantic to find a way to get out of the rising water before he was no longer able to walk through it at all. He was still a long way from getting out of the marsh though and he was going to have to change his tactics. He needed to find a way to get out of the water. He needed to think and think quick, where could he find a place that was off the ground and out of the water. He looked around searching for just the spot when lightning lit up the area and he spotted just the place to get out of the water.
A decently sized tree was not far away and had a few low limbs he could possibly manage to climb into. Buluu started making his way towards the tree now struggling to walk through the quickly rising water. He was starting to regret making the decision to cross the marsh lands. His mind was running over all the other directions he could have gone. He could have headed toward the ocean and played on the beach or he could have headed for the mountains and tried to take on a mountain goat. He was certainly wishing now he had not made this decision but it was far too late now and he needed to focus on staying alive.

By the time Buluu reached the tree he could feel the water lapping at his belly. This was certainly going to turn into a flood. Buluu placed his front paws on the tree and jumped while digging his claws into the bark as high up as he could reach. He was not a great climber at all and he groaned as he slid down slightly and scrambled with his back feet to get a better grip on the bark. It took him several tries to manage to make it up to the first branch. Once he was out of the water and on the branch he sighed and checked himself over. He was soaked and bone tired but no real worse for wear. Now he just had to wait out the storm and just hope the water went down quickly once the storm was over.
Lightning flashed and thunder boomed above as Buluu settled himself onto the branch. He tried to lick his paws clean of the mud on them and after a few tries he realized there was no point in trying to get them clean when he was going to have to walk through the mud to get out of the marsh.

He sighed as he gazed down at the water below him, only the tallest pieces of grass could still be seen and there was no sign of an end in sight for the rain. The initial down pour had subsided but the rain was still coming down steadily and the clouds were as dark as they were at the beginning. It looked like he might just be stuck in the tree for a good little while longer. He had no choice in this matter now he was stuck right where he was unless he wanted to try and take a swim and that was not even going to be an option for him until the water stopped coming out of the sky at least.
