Race: Human Gender: Female Age: 26 Height: 5'6" Weight: 126 lbs. Alignment: Lawful Good
Appearance: Slim but firmly built, Alyssa is a figure of fitness. Her toned body is the result of constant rigorous physical training. Her taut muscles however do not distract from her long copper hair tied which is tied in a lengthy braid or her exotic violet eyes.
Background: Adopted as an orphan by the monastery of D'nah Ydeast, Alyssa was raised by the monastic order and found a happy existence living amongst the men and women of the small complex.
She was taught a fair and balanced view of life while following a strict code of discipline. As she grew older and stronger, her studies shifted to the advancement of her body. She was taught to pursue the perfection and unification of mind, body and soul.
After twenty five years, Alyssa's tutors, believing she would learn more out in the world than behind the sequestered walls of the monastery, sent her out on her own to find her own path.
It has been only a year since her departure but her thirst for knowledge and adventure remains unquenchable.
Appearance:Myst looks more male than female with a naturally straight body (and tight wrapping to hide what few curves exist), short hair, and a husky voice developed by tearing the vocal chords with constant screaming from a young age. She even had the good luck to be slightly taller than the average. Having lived without a mother and having little personal contact with anyone besides her father, even Myst's mannerisms are that of a male elf's. The few feminine features remaining--a delicate face and body, fair skin--can hardly be used to as proof that she's a girl as it's not uncommon for the equally delicate and fair male elves to have such features. All in all, she's seen as a stereotypical elf male: beautiful, elegant, and exotic. In more detail, Myst has somehow managed to retain elvish beauty and elegance despite her obvious negligence of anything beyond basic personal hygiene When asked how and willing to answer, she simply says she follows her father's example. In fact, she looks a lot like her father, sharing his leaf-green eyes, unbelievably fair skin, and soft silver hair. Although, Myst's appearance isn't nearly as neat as her father's. While he always seems to maintain an unruffled composure, his hair always sleek and smooth and his eyes always serenely calm, Myst appears almost rough. Actually, considering she's an elf, her appearance is quite rough. As much as the green eyes reflect the colors of a forest, their texture is closer to that of a stone pavement. The untidy hair, which remains smooth, often sweeps down to partially hide one side or another of Myst's face; in fact, it's a habit of hers to run her fingers through the short hair in order to get it out of her face. While not much care was put into styling the soft silver hair, it hangs up to a bit below eye level in the front and then gradually lengthens along the sides until it reaches the bottom of the neck in the back. Such a cut could been seen as elegant in its simplicity, if it wasn't so carelessly done. Then, there's the clothes: simple, mobile, unobtrusive, quiet, black, and with very little of the body exposed (Myst's fair skin just might miraculously give away her position in the dark). Pockets and pouches are also common on any outfit of Myst's choosing. If possible, she also likes to include a mask and/or hood of some sort to help cover her face. Black gloves are always present on Myst's hands. She's half-and-half when it comes to cloaks. While they do cover even more of her body, often come with a hood, and can be used as a blanket; she dislikes cloaks for their looseness and the noise they make when they move. Personality:A tough past has left Myst suspicious and independent. She depends on only one person, her father. Having learned from the streets that talking too much creates openings, she doesn't talk much at all. In fact, when she can help it, most of her responses are single syllable grunts and whatnot. When she does speak, her words are surprisingly formal for one who's lived such an uncultured life--a manner of speech that had rubbed off on Myst from her father. From the streets, Myst has also learned to show no remorse. She steals without remorse, will even kill, if that's what she needs to do to survive. Although, she takes no pleasure from such act, nor does she go wild and do whatever she wants. Rather, for the same reason she remains mostly silent, Myst keeps herself under strict control. Myst feels comfortable nowhere in civilization, half-orcs have an instinctive hate towards her, dwarves and elves never did agree on anything in the first place, she grew up in an unforgiving environment among humans and halflings where she was beaten into shape, and most of her experience with elves is the bitter knowledge that she was exiled from their society. However, she can relax out in the wilderness, a trait she apparently inherited from her father. There isn't a trace of feminineness in her, not even an instinctive one, as she has been raised as a guy all her life. Acting as a male elf would is so natural to Myst that she doesn't even act like a girl to her father. She's always been addressed as a boy: only masculine pronouns have been used to refer to her, her father considers her his son, and women are attracted to her exotic beauty while men consider her their equal and get jealous at the attention she receives from the females. This dual-gender has also left the girl without a single drop of interest in romance. Having always been considered a guy, she grew used to seeing them as a guy would. Having been born a girl, she also never could understand the attraction to other girls. Background:Myst lived the rough and tough life of a full-fledged citizen of Amn's underworld. Myst arrived in Amn as a newborn, when her father (Thiadon), exiled after his wife had been given the death penalty, settled in the slum's of Amn in order to both carry out the exile as it was meant to be and to ensure that his daughter would learn to survive a long life of exile (what better place to teach that than in the poorest portion of a city). In order to further protect her, Thiadon raised Myst as a boy, since a female elf would immediately be snatched away to be sold for pleasure to the highest bidder. In these slums, the girl quickly became entrenched in the crimes that abounded in such a place and just as quickly learned to become a skillful thief. For a more detailed account, look below.
Elves pride themselves in being the most refined and sophisticated of the races with their vast stores of knowledge and near-flawless beauty. However, as with all societies, not all elves lived in such light. Myst is one such elf through no fault of her own. Shielded from her past by her father, she doesn't know much of how she ended up in her situation. She just knows the bare bones: that her mother had committed some crime that led to her death and the exile of the rest of the direct family, which consisted only of Myst's father and Myst herself. Myst had actually yet to be born at the time the punishment was determined, so her father and his wife were spared long enough to give birth to their daughter. Then, as soon Myst entered the world, the woman who gave birth to her was taken to fulfill her death sentence while she was handed to her father and the two were forced from the elven lands with little more than the clothes on their back. Upon this departure, Myst was given her name by her father a misspelling of the elvish word for wandering, straying, and error: a reminder that while she was an elf she was separate because of her exile and a prediction for what her future would hold. Myst's father, Thiadon, left his beautiful forest home without complaint and took to the road. With the terms of the exile, he could have settled in any of the other forests, comfortably living the rest of his life in isolation while teaching his daughter what he could. As a ranger, he had the skills to do that much with ease. However, he did not for the sake of his punishment. Myst never understood this reason, having never been told exactly what had caused the punishment in the first place. Her father always seemed to grieve his wife's death, something she understood even though she never saw the woman as her mother, but he also never felt that the punishment was unjust and so never tried to lighten it in any way. Thiadon accepted his punishment as it was and lived as a true exile should, in an unfamiliar environment and without support or help. He even went so far as to refuse the comfortable jobs he could have taken with his skills as an elven ranger, and such offers and suggestions were not few as he had come to settle in the busy city of Amn. Refusing to use his skills for anything but teaching his daughter, Thiadon and Myst had no choice but to settle in the slums of the city. As selfish as it may have been for Thiadon to bring his infant daughter up in the dirty dregs of human society when she could have been raised much more comfortably, his daughter was actually one of the reasons for his decision to migrate to Amn. He cared greatly for Myst, but would not disillusion himself. As wrong as it was that his innocent daughter had to be punished, he moved on. He knew without fail that if he truly wished the best for his daughter, he could not go easy on her, not if he wished for her to survive. As an exile, Myst needed to live tough and without relying on others. Sheltering her would keep her from learning that. From the very start, Thiadon strove to teach his daughter that. He left out everything about the family's history so that she could not linger on anything but her future as an exile. He changed his last name to an elvish word (most elvish last names were a combination of two words in common) that reflected their status so that it could be a constant reminder to Myst that while elvish she could not rely on her kind. Needless to say, the two elves stood out like a sore thumb. Not only were they the only ones of their kind to live in such a dirty place, they couldn't even hide their ears and pretend to be strikingly beautiful humans. Only elves could have such fair skin, vivid green eyes, and moonlight-silver hair, traits that both father and daughter shared. For a short while, there was shock and awe, but that quickly developed into discrimination and sneering before Myst could fully understand the world around her. Thiadon, however, was capable of escaping most of these jeers and threats. Even while sticking out like a sore thumb among humans, he retained his talent of going about his business largely unnoticed. This protection, of course, extended to Myst for as long as she remained a small child. Foreseeing the danger Myst would be in as a female elf, the first thing Thiadon did was to raise her as a boy. Even going so far as to have her scream at the top of her lungs daily. He didn't force it, understanding that prohibiting something could actually make it look lucrative. To his relief, his daughter easily accepted being a son. In fact, once Myst was capable enough, she went out to make friends with the other slum boys. She lost them all within a few years, though, a short span of time for an elf. The first to go were those with parents who feared the strange creature that Myst was. Then, the others gradually left her as they aged far more quickly than Myst. Myst tried rotating, gaining younger friends as the older ones outgrew her, but she soon grew tired of it as it became apparent just how different she was from the rest. She withdrew from it all by the time she turned 18, retaining close ties with only her father. For a few years, Myst learned peacefully from her father. As she was still young, the most physically strenuous studies she did were simple walks through the areas outside of Amn. During these walks, the main focus was for Myst to scream herself hoarse and to learn about the plants and animals from Thiadon. Mental studies, however, had no limit. Although, having been a ranger, Thiadon didn't know everything an elf could learn. Still, Myst studied diligently, quietly, and innocently during these years. She almost forgot the harshness of the world outside of the room she lived in with her father. By the age of 24, she had the body of a young child, large enough that her father could no longer hide her with his presence as he had done before. Without her father's knack for going about unnoticed, Myst stood out wherever she went. She faced the full brunt of people's stares and suspicions. If she hadn't appeared to be a boy, she would have faced even worse, who knew how much a female elf would sell for. It was for this reason that Myst had been raised as a son. However, no one suspected her of being anything other than a boy. It should have been that she shouldn't have had to worry about anything but discrimination even if everyone noticed her. After all, she still had the body of the child and even the children of the slum's were allowed a degree of leeway to be innocent children. However, her friends from years ago had all aged into the usual crooks that the slums held, thugs and thieves and assassins and whatnot. They still remembered her and now that she was noticed even when she was with her dad, the fact she remained so young perked their interest in a bad way. Unlike others who simply gave her strange glances and stares, these old playmates approached Myst and treated her roughly. They pushed and shoved her, tormented her for her differences, asked jeeringly why she hadn't aged, and agreed among themselves that since she was their age, she shouldn't be treated as a kid. With that, Myst was inducted into the adult realm of life in the city's back alley's despite being only a child. First came the beatings, a rite of passage of sorts in this grimy neighborhood. During this first assault, Myst had been with her father. At that time, she never left home without Thiadon. However, Thiadon slipped away without anyone noticing and returned home without his daughter. When Myst finally crawled back home herself, badly injured and bruised, he took gentle care of his daughter while explaining to her his actions. Myst could only nod and agree. She knew this was coming, her father had told her in advance of the difficulties she would face. Day after day, week after week, the process repeated. Myst toughened up as a boy should and began to fight back as fiercely as her small body could. Her father continued to teach her, moving onto other skills he deemed useful for her. He could already see that his knowledge as a ranger would have its limits, that his daughter would not become a ranger like him. However, Thiadon did find other uses for his ranger experience. In the beginning, Myst would be entangled in fights far above her level every now and then. Most of these, she suffered from alone, even getting beaten until she was unconscious. Others, though, Thiadon deemed as too dangerous (after the first fight, he had begun keeping watch over his daughter's fights, which wasn't too difficult as news of an elf fighting in the slum's streets spread like wildfire) for his daughter to face alone. With his combat experience, the normally unseen elf would either strike down or drive off the threats. Then, he would melt back into obscurity. For an elf, Myst quickly adapted to this new life of violence and crime. Having lived among humans with such short life spans, it was only natural. Besides, it wasn't as if she was completely new to all this. She had already performed small crimes like stealing the occasional fruit as a child (a common thing for slum children to do). She had already seen plenty unconscious bodies and even a few corpses. Now, she was simply a part of it all. Within a year, Myst had completely assimilated into the underworld of the slums and all traces of innocence had been wiped from her mind. She was always involved in one fight or another, sometimes the fights even involved death. No longer did she need her father's protection: partially because she had improved from the constant combat, mostly because she was willing to do what used to be the unthinkable only a year ago, like mercilessly stabbing anyone that posed too much of a danger for her. She developed a cold and quiet demeanor to the world around her. Even her one weakness, her still-childish body, was turned into a perk. It quickly caught the eyes of thieves and she was taught the tricks of the trade. She wasn't allowed to refuse, not if she wanted to be accepted by her peers; acceptance was necessary to survive in this world. Then, she was expected to return the favor of being taught by putting the skills she had learned to use. Stealing quickly became a part of her everyday life as she stole to live, whether it was to get money for living expenses or to literally save her neck. Her father could only watch. He was relieved that his child had adapted as he had hoped, but there was no way (as an elf) he could be proud of her occupation. Myst understood this stance of her father's and continued to cherish and respect him. Even as she went about her criminal life, the daughter that was more like a son listened to her father's words with respect and followed them as best as she could. It wouldn't be a lie to say that her father was what kept Myst in balance and kept her from becoming evil as many of her peers had. She continued to learn from him such things as elvish and the history of the elves even as she learned from criminals. Then, there were also the lessons that coincided with what the crooks taught her, mainly the few ranger skills Thiadon deemed were of use to his child, such as the art of moving silently and always keeping her honed elven senses on alert. Years passed and Myst slowly grew into adulthood. Her gender firmly remained a secret, no one suspected she was anything but male. Despite not having been fed well at all during her entire life, Myst grew to a healthy height. Over the decades, she had become even more familiar with the streets of Amn's shadowy society. Where most elves put their mind to cultured studies, Myst used her elven intelligence on things such as the workings of the various shadowy groups of Amn, how to choose a suitable weapon, and the best way to get an illegal job done. Even though she remained physically inferior to most of the other residents of Amn's slums, the elf rivaled the best with her intelligence and dexterity. By the time she reached her 90s, it wasn't an exaggeration to say she had become a minor but well-known figure in Amn's underworld. Not only was she a hauntingly beautiful male elf, she acted solo. Myst related to no organization, guild, or anything of that sort. Offers were made directly to her and she accepted or denied them as she willed. Of course, she was only known in the underworld. The most that the folks living the peaceful, legal life in Amn knew about her was the outrageous rumor that an elf was living in the poorest part of the city. Even the cops were oblivious to her.
