Elemental magic
Elemental magic, much like Black and White, is tied to the god from which it is derived. How the magic is learned or acquired differs between elements. Usually it's directly tied to the fashion in which the church of that clan is run.
It is possible to be born with a talent for the Elements, but proper training is generally required for fine tuning. (If you wanna do more then light a campfire.)
Since each person is born with a base element, most wield a hidden talent for that one. In order to use more then that one element it is required to have that other in their recessive genes.
Elements and some of their properties.
Fire, the element of the Chini clan. The average citizen can do no more then light a torch. A trained priest however could send forth a blazing inferno to scourge the land. Most settle for fireballs and the like.
Though very rare, fire is also known to have healing potential.
Over all, the most destructive and least constructive of the elements.
Fire spells can range between small fire balls to huge flaming walls. Remember that the more powerful a fire spell is,
Water, the element of the Agua clan.A suprising percentage of Aguan citizens are capable of using magic effectively. The soothing properties of Water are taught in temples, medical classes, and the military. More powerful, forcefull skills can be done with vigilant practice and a lot of talent. Powerful water spells are often stressful for the caster.
Healing is the most common usage of Water magic. But water has been known to wipe out entire civilizations. A simple wave could disorganize an army. It can also be frozen and used as a projectile, or simply to make the terrain rough.
Wind, the element of the Gale clan.Likewise to above.
Wind can have healing properties. Normally it's used as a blade and a scouting tool. The people don't use the element so much as work with it.
The culture is evolved in such a way that they move in harmony with it.
Gliders, windmills, the like.
The few that can manipulate the element itself do so with much practice and meditation. Enter the ninja tricks.
Earth, the element of the Terre clan. You guessed it, half-assed.
Earth doesn't really heal, but it makes a wonderful shield. Most earth spells are defensive.
Obviously, the trained user of it can do some pretty devastating damage.
Anything from summoning rocks over your head to provoking a volcano to erupt.
The later normally can't be done by humans. It has to be done by something like a Gnome. Or maybe a lot of minors.
Now getting the magic working in the first place is the tricky part.
Earth normally can't be manipulated directly. All anyone can do is pray and hope that Geo drops a rock on your foes head.
Man, I'd hate to be a Terren mage.
So, most become swordsmen or something that implement the earth into their techniques.
