The day was blessedly cool for a change. Sometimes the humidity from the savanna would roll into the jungle and stick there for a few days, trapped by the thick vegetation. The ocean breeze would offer relief, but only if one sought it out on the sandy beaches that brought the Kizi borders to the waters. Finally, though, the humidity had moved on and left the lions feeling free to move about without the sensation of swimming through the air.

Fireheart decided to enjoy the day the best way she knew how: by training. Lions really weren't often seen in trees, but the Lady used the tactic of climbing to strengthen her grip and her muscles. Of course, there were only a few trees thick enough to support her weight, so the few that she had deemed worthy were covered in claw marks.

She was on one such tree, digging her way up through the bark to the first limb. She panted heavily as she arrived and paused for just a few moments, before dropping to the ground gracefully to go again. She had been at it for about a half hour already, as was evident from her labored breathing. Just a few more times up and down and she could call it a day well spent. The past few days she hadn't gotten her exercise in because it had been too humid to barely breathe and the lack of movement had made her restless.

Furiko had never been happier in his life than when the humidity left the jungle. Having been born high in the mountains his fur was thick with several layers to it to keep him warm against the cold. It had proved extremely useful to him several times during a very long winter but now it was proving to make his life very miserable. He did his best when the humidity was strong to keep his fur groomed and clean of any shedding fur that could just make his day more miserable. He'd spent the last several days laying in the shade at the edge of the beach just hoping for a breeze to blow over him.

Now that the humidity had finally moved on he was moving through the jungle more and exploring more parts of the pride. He was still finding new stuff he had yet to see and today was no different. He came up on some really large tree's with some very large limbs in them. He'd never seen tree's that had such large limbs before and he'd also never seen a tree with so many claw marks in them. He was suprised by the amount of bark stripped from several of the tree's around him. It looked to him like someone had purposefully come in and clawed all the bark off the tree for fun or something.

Fireheart took a breather in the trees as she found a sturdy branch to rest on. She had seen leopards lounge around in them and had to admit she was a bit jealous of their climbing capabilities. While she certainly get as high as the smaller felines, she felt she was one of the better lion tree-climbers out there. Certainly in the pride.

Her ears pricked up as she heard footsteps below her. Leaning over the limb, she caught sight of a large blue lion making his way into the clearing. She tilted her head a bit, catching sight of his rather thick mane and coat. Huh...perhaps he wasn't originally from here. She had seen him around the pride, so there was no worry that he was intruding, but she had never met him before.

"Good afternoon," she called down to him so as not to alarm him. "Finally, a dry day," she added as she gently jumped down to the ground. She landed gracefully (thankfully...there had been a few landings she had botched horribly and had stumbled quite a bit) and shook herself a bit before standing up a bit straighter.

Furiko hadn't even known there was another lion nearby until he heard a female voice coming from above him. He looked up at her and watched as she landed softly on the ground not far from him. "Um yes. I'm rather glad it's been dry today. I don't like feeling like the air is closing in on me." He replied as he looked her over.

She was a lion just like him but she'd been up in the tree like a leopard. He'd never seen a lion climb a tree so he was still trying to wrap his mind around how she had managed to get up there.

"Mm. You look like your suited for cooler climates as opposed to this tropical one," Fireheart said, nodding at the lush vegetation around them. As the blue lion continued to stare at her, she glanced away and brushed her paw over the ground. Oh boy...this was awkward.

"Sorry if I startled you," she said after a moment. "I use the trees and climbing to strengthen my back and shoulders, as well as my grip. Thus the rather unsightly trees." Indeed, it looked like someone had gone mad and tried to murder every thick-trunked tree in the little opening. She batted her tail against the ground in embarrassment before lifting her head up and clearing her throat. As a Lady, she really wasn't supposed to let things like that get to her. Her mother would just laugh and say that it was fine, but in her mind royalty should appear poised and in control at all times.

"My name is Fireheart," she offered by way of greeting. "I'm not sure I've met you before, although I have seen you from time to time." He was hard to miss, his blue coat standing out quite like her mate's did against the green surroundings.

Furiko grinned at Fireheart and her comment of his fur. "You'd be right. I was born in a mountain pride. It was a climate I was more adapted to." He explained.

Furiko's gaze went to the tree's and their stripped bark as she spoke of her practice climbing. "I have to say I'm impressed by your ability. I've never seen a lion that could climb a tree at all." He replied as he looked up into the tree to the limbs she was climbing to. He wondered what everything must look like from up there.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Fireheart. My name is Furiko or eh Blue Mountain." He said with a chuckle. "I'm still getting used to having two different names."

"Ah...that must have been a big change to come down here to the sea, then," Fireheart said with a nod, finally catching her breath completely from her work-out. She couldn't imagine how cold the mountains could be at times. There was snow on occasion on the ones that surrounded the area, but only in the cooler months. She knew there were some mountains that had snow on them all the time, though. She couldn't imagine living there!

As Blue Mountain mentioned climbing trees, she glanced over at the few trunks that were pretty scratched up from her claws. "It's certainly not easy...we're really not meant to climb like leopards are. But it gives a good workout and makes me use muscles I don't normally use," she said with a little nod as she glanced back at the blue lion. "It's not something I do for fun." Just in case that sealed the deal that what she was doing wasn't weird.

The slight slip-up made her smile a bit, and she shook her head to let him know it was okay. "The naming rules really aren't too strict if your an incoming member. It's really just for those that are born here," she explained kindly. "But your Gypsy name does suit you." He was quite large, after all, and blue. "It's nice to finally meet you, Blue Mountain. How long have you been here, exactly? In this pride, I mean."

Furiko nodded to her first statement and sighed. "Yes it has been. My fur is really more built for the cold so the humidity and heat has affected me during my first days." He replied explaining a bit why the heat was so hard on him.

Furiko grinned at her when she said she didn't do it for fun. If he thought he could get up there he would be doing it for fun. "Well it looks exciting, challenging and fun to me. Who wouldn't want to see the world from above?"

At her compliment he smiled. "Thank you." He replied. "I think I've been here for a couple of weeks now. The humid days run together in a search for a way to cool down."

Fireheart nodded a bit as she sat down, not minding being a bit informal with the lion. Her legs were tired after all, and she didn't want to force him to stay on his feet if he didn't want to. Outsider lions that came in had very different ideas of royalty sometimes, and she found that it was easier to act relaxed in front of them so they could be calm as well. The royalty here was looked up to, but there were no real rules, much like the rest of the pride. The king's head didn't have to be higher than everyone else's, standing wasn't required in the presence of the children of the kind and queen, things like that. But still, it was nice to be considerate.

"I suppose, although there's not much to see other than the trees," she pointed out. "Perhaps if I tried a tree closer to the edge of the beach, or the rouge lands. Then there might be something to see." Hm...perhaps that could be a new position for the patrons to take. It certainly would offer a higher vantage point to look out for potential threats.

"So what is it you do here, Blue Mountain? What position have you taken up?"

Furiko looked up into the tree's as he thought about what she said. It would be a bit difficult to see anything but leaves and limbs of other trees but the thought that if you were on the edge near the beach or rogue lands interested him. "That could be interesting to climb a tree near the rogue lands. It could give the lions out there a better form of surprise on intruders. They should be taught this climbing trick." He said now really interested in learning himself so he could ambush an unsuspecting intruder.

"Well they told me my position was gypsy but most of what I do daily is hunt. I used to be a mwindaji at my old pride. The mwindaji's specialized in hunting. It was all we did everyday." He explained to her while memories of his life in his birth pride came to his mind. "So I pretty much do the same thing I did there though the heat makes it a bit harder sometimes."

Fireheart nodded in agreement. Perhaps if she ever rose to the highest power in this line of work she'd make it a requirement for the lions that fought to at least try to climb the trees to get better vantage points. It certainly was unexpected of lions to drop from the heights, after all...it could be a very interesting strategy to apply during war times. Not that they HAD war time...

"I see. Well, if there are any large hunts that are planned, you now know who to see if you're interested in helping," she said as she flicked her tail. "I'm the Hunt Leader as of a few weeks ago. There haven't been any recently, so hopefully soon I'll round everyone up and go bring down some large prey for a festival or something. Mother's usually planning some kind of party for everyone."

Her ear cocked to the side just then and she glanced off into the forest. A very familiar voice was calling for her. "Ah...I'm sorry," she said as she looked back at the large lion. "I've got to go. But it was very nice meeting you! And I look forward to hunting with you."

With that, she trotted off into the woods, making her way through the undergrowth to get to the beach.

Furiko's ears perked at her statement of being the hunt leader. "Wonderful! I'll be sure to get with you when the next big hunt is planned." He told her with a grin. He always enjoyed big hunts. They made for much bigger challenges.

Furiko's ears flicked toward the voice who was calling and then he smiled. "It was nice meeting you too." He told her as she trotted off. Once she was gone he took a look at the tree's with claw marks and shrugged. He try it later. He thought as he began to meander off into the woods just checking out more of the area now that he had nothing to do.
