Strange.

It was strange to be near her father's homelands. Her mother, bless her soul, hadn't really stuck as close as a heavily pregnant female perhaps should have, but once Nakama was ready to begin her plan it hadn't been too hard to find this place. The land of the bones. The graveyard. Perhaps even a haunted place. Nakama couldn't imagine her father resting well, knowing that his murderer was still alive. She had claimed ownership of the pack, a place that she didn't belong in, and Nakama was intent on altering her position as alpha. She didn't have a plan, not yet, but the only way to understand where to strike would be to understand this pack.

So here she was, lingering within the shadows of the great elephant skulls that littered the landscape. Her dark eyes, almost unreadable, watched the going ons of hyenas, some pathetic ones too crippled to do much but lie around and whine. Others dropping off pitiful amounts of food. Discussing the need for another water supply. What a foolish group.

Ibada was still non-social at best but considering he was supposed to be a member of the pack, he made a point of hanging out near the busier areas every once in a while.. mostly to show that he was still here. And to keep an eye on the goings-on, see if there were any opportunities to steal something good. Not much was going on today but, surprisingly, he was able to pick out an unfamiliar face hiding in the shadows and everybody else seemed oblivious to it. Maybe it was her strange eyes or the strange, intense way she was observing the pack.. or maybe it was just that nobody else was ever in one of his hiding spots.

So he was hanging around nearby, watching the stranger and trying to decide what to do. He wasn't really the confrontational type and perhaps it out to be reported but he knew he might be wrong and he couldn't seem to let go of his self-centered focus.

While Nakama only watched the others, Ibada only watched her, waiting to see what she was going to do next.

Nakama's frowned as she stared at most of the other hyenas. She knew that some of her siblings were lingering around the pack, but she felt like she would blend in much better without her dusk-patterned legs. She rustled up some of the dirt, covering her legs as best she could. It was still apparent that her leg markings were different from the rest of her body, but it wasn't such a stark difference. More muted.

Feeling a little more satisfied with herself (if much dirtier), she relaxed her posture. Her eyes and mind were still busily at work, but it seemed that nothing very interesting was going on right now. So she turned her focus to this little pile of bones near where she was, poking through them with mild disgust. Why were some of these hyenas so interested in bones? There was nothing that they offered, not even a scrap of food. They wouldn't keep you warm on those cold, cold nights, and they certainly weren't comfortable to sleep on. They seemed useless, unless one wanted to snap them when angry.

Snap! Snap! Hmm, breaking them was a little entertaining...

Hmmm. Camouflage was very suspicious, he decided, as he watched her attempt to cover up her leg markings. Of course, that also made him realize those strange kind of starry markings were really out of place, too. With them nearly covered, she seemed much less suspicious- though it may have been mostly because she relaxed.

And then she started breaking random bones. He flinched through the first but the second was all it took for him to come scrambling forward to stop her. Breaking the bones without even checking them first.. that was ridiculous.

"Hey!"

She was about to snap a third bone when there was an outburst. She didn't want to bother to look up, but it was hard to ignore the sounds of someone, or something, approaching her.

Very dark eyes narrowed, then widened. Who the hell was this? She hadn't seen him at all during her observations, and he looked a little....strange to her. Nakama wasn't the most...fair female, so nearly anyone else turned her off instantly.

"What?" she sneered, shifting her weight enough for that third bone to snap! under her paws. What was she doing wrong?

If he wasn't so used to strange looks or could handle the careless snapping of bones, he might have been slowed down by the look the young hyena gave him- but her tone was irritating and the next snap was too much. With no sense or care for personal space, he didn't stop until he was close enough to swat her paw away and put his own down protectively by the pile of bones. He was very close to her but she would have to back up if she didn't like it.

"What are you doing?" he demanded.

She snarled at him, surprised that he would dare to invade her space. This piece of s**t had no idea what he was dealing with! Nakama held herself in high regard, and always felt like the rules didn't apply to her unless she felt like it. Being startled by this rangy old male pissed her off, but it also threw her off as well.

"Entertaining myself," she growled, stubbornly not giving up any ground. "Why, did you decide that these bones are yoooours?" She tried to taunt him, but it sounded more like an adolescent whiny rant than what she meant.

"Maybe," he said sharply, managing not to growl back at her but pulling what he could of the bones closer to him- not that it put much distance between the stranger and the bones, of course.

"Is that why you're spying on the pack?" he asked, deciding to make it clear he knew she didn't really belong her, "Entertainment?"

He wouldn't believe her if she said yes, he'd seen the way she watching them and this was far too close to just be simple curiosity. He didn't have to understand much about social interactions to see that.

"Hmmmm." Nakama decided that she would never understand the bone obsession. It was stupid, juvenile, and useless. Her eyes narrowed, but a touch of an impish smile cross her jaws. She was going to want to either gag or laugh herself silly later, but he was odd enough that she might just 'play' with him a bit.

"Yes, entertainment," she echoed, shifting her shoulders just a bit. "It gets awfully lonely out there in the empty rogue lands, and I was merely studying what sorts of fun could be found here." Forget the fact that she was young and he certainly wasn't, she figured this would be the best way to get him to either believe her, or leave her alone.

"I'm certain you could help me with that, hm?" And she severely invaded his personal space, brushing up against him while kicking some of the bones that were between them away.

Her sudden shift in demeanor confused him more than anything. He didn't seem to react at all at first as he tried to process what she was going on about, her words getting to him more than her actions-- until he realized now he wasn't invading her space, she was invading his. And that never happened. Ever.

So he was caught trying to decide if he would back up or stand his ground to protect the bones. Her pushing them aside made it easier, ducking down a bit to pull back as many of them as he could save while getting away from her.

"Right," he muttered, backing up steadily with a portion of the pile of bones, "Good thing you covered those hideous leg markings."

That didn't work. At all. Her lower jaw stuck out a bit as she was quite disappointed that he didn't even acknowledge her at all. Clearly he wasn't used to being hit on. She wasn't even going to put out for him. If the mangy old male had agreed, she merely would have laughed at him, but it was a little disappointing (if amusing) that he didn't even answer her impish request.

Her disappointment even overshadowed his attempt to piss her off. She was proud of her leg markings, of how they resembled her beautiful mother. It was a pity they didn't quite fit within the spectrum of graveyard hyenas, but she would change that. She would change everything.

"Well, you can play with your bones like a pup, then," she sighed dramatically. "I'm going to go find some real fun elsewhere."

Ibada straightened himself up once she backed down from whatever strange little game she was trying to play. He watched her with suspicious, narrowed eyes, uncertain how to finish this particular conversation. He felt she had earned herself a threat but he wasn't very good at that so he decided it was best for him to just stare her down, waiting for her to go, just like she said she would.

What a loser. Whatever. She shook her head as she finally did turn to leave, unsure as to where she was going to go. Probably back out to the roguelands for a bit to sit and process what just happened.

Oddly enough, it wasn't going to be as easy as she thought to fit into the pack. If an idiot like that picked her out so quickly, what were the higher ups going to notice? She needed to rethink her plan, and fast.
