Rome and Prague play a major part in the four volumes which comprise John Crowley's Aegypt Cycle.

there is creepiness and nastiness, even or especially on the part of the hero, but it is still mystically hypnotic.

i believe the whole thing is an experiment, to construct an epic in which nothing happens, in other words there is no plot, and yet without a clear cause and effect the characters still change. the whole world is inconstant and mutable, time is an illusion, hearts and dreams are eternal.

say, Shells, where's Prague?

i must rectify this.

i've never been there, and i'll bet you have been to all these other wondrous places.

Unfortunately I haven't been to Prague! This was my first big Europe trip, and there's only so much you can really cram into 5 weeks (without going on a Contiki tour and only staying in each place for a day), so we had to prioritise! Rome was actually my least favourite - too hot, crowded, dirty and confusing. Not that you can really tell from my photos. xd

yes, how can a photo convey heat?

what would a hot photo look like?

well, the hot-guys-and-baby-animals calendar never disappoints!

I've always had a bit of a reserved interest in Rome because my mom said that it was a nasty place. You're right that the photos don't suggest that at all though.

It's not that I had a bad time there - it just wasn't as good as all the other places. Maybe I'm too reserved to fall in love with the Italians. rofl (j/k, I know you're half Italian, right?!)

The Colosseum and Vatican are impressive, I'll grant you that, but you also know what you're getting before you even arrive. I think the sites in some of the other cities were more impressive, both historically and visually, because they were a surprise. And with some of the famous attractions in Rome - the Trevi Fountain being a prime example - I was left wondering why they were so famous. It just felt like I was ticking off the boxes.
