HP: 4

This time when he stepped into the ring, Elis didn’t even bother trying to converse. He’d even completely forgot that he’d have to go another round, what with the bronze medal up for grabs. Somehow that had managed to slip his mind, though he didn’t think anyone could blame him. Or maybe they could, he didn’t really know. The fact that he’d even gotten this far… he supposed it was something to be proud of, even if he hadn’t come out of his prior two matches feeling all that good about himself.

He tried to smile at his opponent, but it ended up looking like a nervous grimace. He tried to gulp down some of the tension and circled his shoulders around to loosen the stiff muscles. Just one more match… just one more and it’d be over.

What should he do first? Flailing around had worked before, but it’d also looked pretty ridiculous and he really wanted to make his princess proud. Somehow…

In the end, he lunged forward and just… tried to knock his opponent off her feet.

HP: 2

“Sorry, sorry!” Elis exclaimed.

Should he be apologizing? Wasn’t the point of this for them to knock one another out of the match? He wasn’t really a violent person, so to say he had some reservations about this would be an understatement. That and his lack of skill. He didn’t know what he’d been thinking when he’d entered. Admittedly, he probably hadn’t been thinking very much at all.

He stumbled back when he was pushed in return and nearly fell over, instinctively flailing his arms around as he tried to stay on his feet. They probably looked something like propellers flying around through the air like that, but he was a bit too focused on not being hurt and not hurting his opponent too badly in return to worry too much about what he must have looked like.

No, that could come later.

“I just… um… that is… well… er…”

He didn’t know why he was even bothering to try to explain himself. He’d already figured talking wasn’t going to get either of them anywhere. It would be for the best if they could just get this over with quickly.

Right?

Finally regaining his balance, Elis stepped forward to try and grab her around the shoulders in a move Valhalla might have used on him earlier.

HP: 2

“Maybe you didn’t notice, but I don’t really know what I’m doing!” Elis announced, trying to do so good-naturedly, but it probably came out sounding a bit panicked.

Honestly, he didn’t know what he was doing. Well… sorta. Only a little. Not really. Only about as much as he needed to know to get this far, he supposed. He actually felt a bit bad that he was so terrible. There were plenty of others out there who probably deserved to be here more than he did.

But he was doing this for his princess! He had to keep reminding himself of that! For Jupiter and for his princess! He was doing his best to win, even if his best wasn’t particularly skilled or graceful or talented in any way. It was the effort that mattered most, wasn’t it?

With a determination that was more nerves than anything, and an anxiousness to get this over with as soon as possible, Elis bore all of his weight against his opponent and tried to take her to the ground, where he then intended to hold her for the allotted time until the match was called.
