Rhuin hung around in the thicket for another day after Chelsie had headed back to her Glory. Finally, the next morning he steeled his reserve and decided it was time to head home. His 'Brothers' might start looking for him. He shook his head to clear the thoughts of the band of Warriors he had unintentionally become a part of. It had been either join them or die. At that point he had chosen survival. They really were nothing more than a group bandits. At least they didn't mind him leaving for his sojourns as long as he had tales to tell upon his return. But he wasn't going to think of them now. With a final brush off of though he faced East into the rising sun and lets its first tenuous rays warm him. He burst into a run, took two strides, gathered himself and lunged into the air opening his wings.

Mollie flicked her ears back to listen to the sounds behind her. The only sounds coming from her Glory were those of tired Unis waking themselves for the day. She had a few hours before anyone would question her whereabouts. They shouldn't need her anyway. She had left them in the capable hooves of her second, Vida. Though the other Uni could at times come off seeming unfriendly, she really was a great problem solver. 'But this is my morning.' Mollie reminded herself. It wasn't very often that she had a chance to slip away and she was going to take full advantage.

Rhuin wasted no time in flying back toward the river that marked the border between his homeland and this, his haven. So focused was he on reaching his destination, and distracted by thoughts of the mare that he had let go, he didn't see the shadow split away from the side of the mountains. He did not notice it still as it rose in height and maneuvered into a position above and just behind him. So it took him by great surprise when he was struck solidly in the back by the force of another Uni's hooves.
Rhu strained his wings to try to regain the delicate balance that allowed him to fly as he looked around for who had attacked him. There. The shadow was lining up for another dive. He let himself flounder around, looking pathetic while he waited for the other to descend on him. There it came! He corrected himself and met the dropping shadow with the point of his horn. The other Uni tried to pull up and was almost successful. Rhu felt his horn catch in the flesh of the shadow.
With a scream the other Uni's shadow cloak dropped away and Rhu was faced with one of his brother's angry eyes. The other male screamed again as he flapped furiously to pull his shoulder off of Rhu's horn.
"Traitor!" the other bugled. "I can smell a female that is not of ours on you!" With blood running down his shoulder and dripping from his leg, the other attacked. Rhu defended valiantly and the two wing warriors tumbled across the sky. Finally, it was above the Shadowed drift itself that both Unis locked together and fell from the sky. In the river, so it was, that Rhu untangled himself from the lifeless form of the other and drug himself to the shore and lost consciousness.

Mollie heard the fighting before she saw it. She turned her head in the direction thinking to catch a glance of what was going on. There! She watched as the two forms danced through the air overhead, locked into what could end up being a deadly struggle for one or both. 'Stallions' she thought as their cries filled the air. "Well so much for my peaceful morning." she grumbled aloud. She watched their progress across the sky hoping her Glory realized that the ruckus had nothing to do with her and wouldn't go into a panic. Then silence. She searched the sky for them and nearly missed the fall of their two forms. Without thought she raced in the direction of the fall. She was too far to hear a splash but she hoped they had fallen into the water at least. She slid to a stop at the rivers edge and looked up and down the bank. At first she thought there was nothing. Then she barely caught the shape of a body lying half out of the water. She stepped carefully closer. It was no wonder she had almost missed him. His coat was nearly the same color as th moss covered stone upon which he lay. She could see no breath about him but there was still a chance he might live. Mollie knew she wasn't the best healer in the herd but she felt compelled to help this stranger. She knelt beside him and lay her horn across his shoulder.

As he lay drifting in and out of darkness Rhu felt nothing. 'So this is what it feels like for a being of magic to die.' He thought to himself. 'Pity I didn't do more with my life. I wish I had seen my foals.' As he lay he dreamt first of his own foal-hood. Of the hard times he had to endure. As he watched his own life play out he hoped that his children would have better. Then he began to dream of what his children's childhoods might be like. With their bright mother, in the mountains. It was with some shock, and a little irritation when he felt his dream interrupted by first a warmth on his shoulder, and then a wave of agony shooting through him. Then came blackness and he knew no more.

Mollies head drooped and she rolled onto her side to lean against the male. She had nearly drained herself with the effort of pulling him back from the edge he had been ready fall over. But he had a chance now. If he was willing to fight he could survive. Against her will Mollie's eyes began to droop. She couldn't fall asleep yet. She had to get hel....

She was awoken by a soft nose prodding at her hip. Mollie pulled herself away from sleep. It took he a moment to figure out why she was sleeping against some strange stallion. Then it all came back. Her ruined morning and then trying to help the stranger. Ugh, the poking really needed to stop. She turnedand snapped her teeth at the annoyance. The action was rewarded with a squeal of indignation tha could only belong to one Uni. Durga. "I'm awake!" Mollie grumped at the other mare.
Durga came around to Moll's front and dropped her head to stare into her leader's eyes.
"Yes. I'm alright." Moll answered the unspoken question. "But we need to get him out of the water and under some cover. He was in a bad fight and I don't know what happened to the other."
Durga snorted and trotted off into the woods. It was only a moment before she returned with some help. It took work but, with the help of the others, and Durga's inventiveness, they managed to get the strange stallion out of the water and away from the river.
The others weren't sure what to do with him since he couldn't exactly travel and they still had work to do. It took some talking, but Mollie convinced the others that they needed to carry on with their duties to help the forest and that she would be fine here caring for the male.

Rhuin awoke to the sound of voices bidding each other farewell. He lay very still while he listened to the sounds of a group departing. They were saying farewell and he knew it wasn't to him so he listened closely to see who might still be with him. There was movement near his head so he cracked his eyes open just enough to see. It was a mare. A very pretty mare.
"You probably should have just left me." he croaked.
Darn he sounded bad. He wondered how long he had been out as the mare came to worry over him.

Mollie knew exactly when the stallion woke. She, however, decided to allow him to take his own time in coming back to the land of the living. when he croaked his question at her she went to him and began to look over her work. His wounds seemed to be sealed and healthy. however she couldn't say about the parts that were deeper.
"Glad to see you awake." she soothed, touching his nose with hers. "Hold on. I'll get you some water so you can try to drink." she left him momentarily and brought back a hollowed out branch with water in it. She watched with a critical eye as he lifted his head and sipped at the water.
"Now, I am Mollie. Who are you? I assume you came from the other side of the river by the look of you."

Rhuin couldn't believe the mares hospitality. Especially when she knew that he had come from the other side. He took her water gratefully and when asked for his name he only hesitated for a moment before telling her.
"They call me Rhuin."
When he finished what she had brought him he decided he was well enough to stand. To the sound of her protests he heaved himself to his feet and stood on shaky legs.
"I can't lay in the presence of a lady." he deflected.

Mollie was vaguely impressed at his sense of respect but wasn't surprised when it wasn't long before he sank back down to the ground. "You really shouldn't overtire yourself." She chastised gently. "We have all the time in the world for you to make your recovery." She hoped it wouldn't be too short of a time because she was intrigued by this handsome stallion. She settled down to the ground next to him to forestall any more of his efforts at rising. "So, Rhuin, was it? I hope you don't mind spending a little time with me. I don't want to see you not be able to make it home."

Rhuin looked at her in surprise as she lay down next to him. He flicked his ears back in disapproval before listening to her speak. At her mention of home he scoffed and quickly tried to hide it with a cough. At her look of curiosity he felt the need to clarify despite himself. 'I have no home. Not anymore. My 'brother' is the one who left me as you have found me. Apparently I am no longer accepted. Once I am recovered I will probably try to make a place for myself on this side of the river. I have nothing to draw me back to that dark land." And everything to hold me here, he added silently with a thought for his unborn foals. He momentarily entertained the idea of being able to raise one of them. He shook his head bringing himself back to the present and the mare at his side.

Mollie sensed when he lost himself to his thoughts and waited patiently for him to return. " Well, Rhuin, if that's the case, if I haven't irritated you into oblivion by the time you are recovered I would be honored for you to come with me and meet my Glory. You wouldn't have to stay but if you find that you fit in, we would be glad to have you. Now, while you think that over, I'm going to go find you something to eat." She pushed herself to her feet and trotted off into the trees leaving him with his thoughts.

And that's how it was for the next several days while he regained his strength. While he rested, they spoke companionably and when he was string enough for short forays, she shared with him her knowledge of the forest and land. Eventually she declared him well enough to travel and they struck out for her Glory.
Along the way, they continued to get to know each other and it was with some surprise that Rhuin realized he was beginning to develop a bond with this mare. It was the night before she claimed they would rejoin her Glory when he spoke of his feelings to her. He was stunned when she informed him that she had also felt as though she were growing close to him. So it was, that they spent an extra couple days to themselves before rejoining her Glory.
