Remarque had met many Negaversers in his time, though had yet to properly formulate an opinion about them. Most of them annoyed him. But—then again, most of them attacked him, too. Of late, he could name only three—four if you counted the brief moment he'd spoken with Zinkenite—that he didn't find annoying. Howlite was tolerable—she had been the one to deal with Magnetite. Benitoite, he liked. Painite, while the newest of all of them, he still found to be After his meeting with the man proclaiming to be a prince—Endymion, Remarque had been somewhat wary of Chaos oriented signatures. This did not, however, stop him from approaching them. The Negaverse were supposed to be allies to the Dark Mirror Court, though his experiences had taught him that the term 'ally' could mean a lot of things.

Like 'a*****e'.

And yet, Remarque was still striving to dispel the thoughts he had of the Negaverse. Leto had put her faith in them—and Ares had thought it proper to work alongside them. How could he question their decision? Ares must see something in them, and he couldn't imagine it was simply self preservation of her Court.

When he had sensed the aura of another agent of Chaos, he had debated whether or not he should seek it out. They were near enough that they probably would have crossed paths eventually even if he hadn't started wandering in the other's direction.

If he was expected to be the Vice Captain of the Dark Mirror Court, he figured he should at least try to get to know who they were working with and—with preconceived notions set aside—went to go find the chaos signature he sensed so close.

Like many of the other officers, Captain Labyrinthite wasn't overly fond of their new (well not so new anymore but he had been MIA for months) allies but he knew that he could not continue to avoid them. At some point he, like the rest of them, would be forced to work with them. It was the will of Metallia and he would do as she wished. He was no fool, he would not risk the anger of his sovereign. It would likely mean death if he did.

He didn't seem to react much when he felt the energy signal of a dark mirror senshi, he had no intention of seeking them out but he had no intention of avoiding them either. So he did nothing, instead he stood poised on the roof of a tall building, teetering on the edge waiting.

He had a plethora of options at hand; he could have moved from his perch to continue patrolling and seek out a member of the opposite faction, he could have teleported to another location, could have called it a night and gone home but instead chose to wait for the dark mirror senshi to find him. A few minutes passed before he lowered the scythe he was holding and sunk down to sit on the edge of the roof, eyes scanning the ground below for the person he assumed was coming.

Remarque was not one to disappoint. Within a few short seconds, he had made himself visible to the Captain. It wasn't immediately obvious the to Eternal senshi where the aura was coming from, but when he was practically right on top of it, there was really only one place left to look—up.

He did so casually, as though it were boring to put the effort into such an action. There weren't any trees to scour (though he knew how much everyone around these parts seemed to enjoy such a perch) so he focused on the next best, most obvious thing. It didn't take him long to spot the Negaverser sitting on the edge of the roof.

While Remarque had good enough eyesight, it being night made it a little more difficult to identify who he was dealing with. Given that he knew very few Negaversers, it was probably best to assume that it was a stranger—particularly because what he could make out didn't look particularly familiar. That wasn't going to prevent him from making conversation, however.

"Nice perch you've got. Any interesting going on up there or are you just taking a break?" he called up. He had mastered the slightly inquisitive, mostly indifferent tone a while back, and regardless of the fact that he was dealing with a—presumed—ally, he still held little faith in the Negaverse.

Labyrinthite spotted Remarque before he looked up. He sat, nearly motionless, observing the blonde curiously as he moved nonchalantly trying to spot the source of the energy signal he so obviously felt. Amber eyes were trained upon the senshi as he moved, fingers idly playing with the pink hilt of his weapon. He remained silent at first, debating his response before he shrugged slightly. "Roofs make great vantage points when scouting an enemy," he replied leaning forward, slinging an arm over the dangling leg. His other arm shifted his hand rested loosely in the air, blade pointing down at the ground.

"It's a quiet night," he commented coolly, mildly disappointed in the lack of senshi activity. He had too much on his mind as of late, he could have used a distraction. He could have used a fight. "Not much going thump this night," he lamented, shaking his head and offering a slight smirk to his "ally" (not keeping in mind that it was unlikely that the blonde could really see his expression from the ground). "Even the youma seem keeping to the Rift, not much sign of them either." He clucked his tongue against the roof of his mouth in disappointment.

"So," he began opting to vanish his weapon so his other arm could rest against the leg propped up by the roof's edge, "I guess you could say I'm taking a break, waiting for something more..." he waved his hand around as he tried to decided what word to use, "interesting to either come along or happen. I suppose you're my prize," he joked.

The phrasing was a bit odd to Remarque, who wasn't entirely sure how he felt about being labeled a prize. If Labyrinthite had been a girl, he might have flashed a smile, offered her some flirtatious line, and hoped she never ran into Lesath, though his options for response were significantly more limited when dealing with men.

"If that's what you'd like to call it," he replied. He hadn't noticed the youma tending to themselves any more than usual; he typically avoided them. "I'd think you'd find the more interesting happenings on foot. Going out to look for them rather than just sitting around and waiting for them to find you, but to each his own. Remarque," he introduced, figuring if he was going to put the effort into a conversation, he at least wanted to drop his name and know who he was talking to. "Dark Mirror Senshi of Puppetry. You?"

"What's to say I haven't been traveling until now, when I decided to take roost?" He questioned coolly. "Of course I've sought enough trouble recently, thought it was time to give the opportunity to chase me," he stated, waving a hand about nonchalantly. He had certainly caused his own fair share of trouble recently and he was still coping with the consequences of his actions.

It explained his flighty tendencies and his deepened distrust of any sort or senshi. White moon or otherwise aligned.

"Sometimes playing the waiting game is the perfect way to lure prey to you," he offered as yet another explanation for his roosting. "I caught something after all," he laughed lightly. He shook his head, tugging on his hood to pull it farther forward on his head.

"Labyrinthite," he said, offering his name when he suddenly pushed off the side of the building and dropped to street-level landing with grace that could only come with practice. "Captain Labyrinthite, at your service."

Take roost? Didn't chickens roost?

Remarque had been pondering that, racking his brain for all bird terms he could recall—and then huffed when the term 'prey' was mentioned. It was enough to make him assume that he had been referred to as prey—of which he was absolutely not and absolutely never would be. His eyes followed the Captain as he located himself on the ground, and it was only when he offered his name that Remarque really took interest in him.

Labyrinthite was a name he had heard before, from a senshi he had found himself rather attached to. "At my service, indeed. You are Eos'…keeper, are you not? I have spoken with her recently. She seemed happy—far more so than when she was with the White Moon. Are you taking care of her?" he prompted, voice just a bit clipped; there wasn't quite a threat there, though Remarque wanted to ensure that all was going well for the senshi was being taken care of. The Dark Mirror Court would have welcomed her readily, though the Negaverse was the second best option. He wanted to hear that all was going well.

The captain was watching, studying the senshi to gauge his reaction. He meant little offense in his words, or choice of words, but how the blond chose to react would determine how well the two would get along. His posture was stiff and he stood tall, relaxing only slightly at the mention of Eos.

A mixture of emotions danced across his features; first fondness, then sadness to conflict, and finally no emotion at all. "I am," he answered after a beat. His relationship with the corrupted senshi was a complicated one and the death of his father had only further complicated it. He kept wanting to pull her close and keep her an arms length away at the same time.

He hadn't seen her in a few day, she'd been avoiding him since the picnic.

"I am to the best of my abilities," he told him truthfully. His neglect and recent poor treatment reflected his emotionally stressful time. "She appears to be in a better state than when I found her. She is settling into her new life comfortably," he shrugged.

"Oh." Remarque seemed to be sizing Labyrinthite up—and then relaxed. His posture wasn't so rigid, and while he never truly let his guard down, he seemed a little more at ease. "Well then, good. Glad to hear it. You know, the concept of corrupted senshi and Negaverse agents working together as a team is a bit curious. Does it ever feel strange?"

There was no hesitance in his voice, only pure curiosity. Labyrinthite had given him nothing to warrant concern, and that Eos had vouched for him was reason enough for Remarque to at least give him a chance. "Working so closely with someone who was your enemy a month, two months ago…"

It didn't matter how must question Eos had, or how passive and easy going she had always seemed to be; it had been on Remarque's mind ever since he'd first met her. The readjusting, the repurposing that came with her corruption—it was morbidly fascinating.

It was difficult to shrug the topic off and pretend like it wasn't something he was interested in. "So where is she? Aren't you two supposed to patrol together or is she just too hard to keep up with?"

"No," he responded immediately. Working with a corrupted senshi had never felt foreign to the captain who had been dealing, or partnered, with one for a majority of his "military" career. While he often worked solo, there had been only a brief period of time (six months at the most really) where he had not interacted with some sort of corrupted senshi.

Of course he was going to omit that he was familiar with the because he had dated one. (And he certainly wasn't going to share that he had been deeply in love with one before things went sour.)

"I have worked with the corrupt since I joined the Negaverse." Almost since. "In fact, the first one I ever partnered with is considered to be a General in her own right, she is able to travel through the Rift without an escort," he informed him, thinking fondly of the senshi of guidance. A flicker of sadness danced across his features at the memory before it quickly faded. "It depends on the individual, there are many who despise senshi regardless of whether or not they fight by our side. I myself have no qualms against those who have seen the light and rejected the white moon in favor of Metallia." He shrugged.

Labyrinthite was a tad bit weird in his views regarding senshi. He despised the white moon senshi, disliked but tolerated the Dark Mirror Court and had an...unexplainable fascination with the corrupt. "Eos was one who needed help, desperately so, and I am not one to turn my back upon an ally." Regardless of previous feelings, he added silently. "I came upon her by chance and she reached out to me for aid, I could not turn her away," he told him truthfully.

When he asked of her whereabouts the soldier hesitated, uncertain of how to answer. "She requested some time alone," he answered carefully. He would not divulge her reasoning for wanting space. He was certain it would upset the Dark Mirror Senshi.

Remarque was quiet for a brief second as he processed the information, and then replied with a simple, drawn out, "Interesting." Another few seconds of processing and then he nodded. "Well, I'm glad you were there with her in her time of need. Of course, I admit—I would have preferred she come over to the Dark Mirror Court, but." He shrugged. "The Negaverse will take better care of her than the White Moon Court."

He didn't want to pry into Eos' private life any more than he already had, and Remarque found himself with another source of interest—the mysterious first partner of the Captain in front of him. "So tell me, how can a corrupt be considered a General? And travel the Rift unescorted?"

Admittedly, Remarque knew very little of the Rift or its functioning; he knew what Benitoite had told him, and he himself had only been there once after the Ambush—and even then he'd been too tired to take too much notice to the place.

"I believe the development of the Dark Mirror Court was still fairly new at the time of her corruption."

He could not be certain of that however, because he had been late to the welcoming the dark mirror court as allies party. He also omitted the assumption that her corruption had been forced. He didn't know it for certain and did not wish to divulge false notes.

"Regardless, she is in better hands."

It was unfortunate that, as of late, being in his hands made things worse so he was relieved (and distressed for entirely different reasons) when the topic switched subjects. "Ah." More hesitation. He did not wish to speak of Alkaid, because even the mention of her name made his heart ache, but he had brought her up and the questions had been asked so he would answer.

"When they give everything they have, everything they are to Metallia," he began. Instantly the image of her pale skin, cracked like a broken china doll with energy pulsing through the cracks, flashed across his mind. "Somehow Alkaid," saying her name made his voice crack. "Traveled to her star. Then...she gave it over to Metallia."

He did not understand much more than that except that on the day she went to the star it had died. Or began to die. Slowly but surely the energy would seep from it into chaos's clutches and stop glowing forever. It would be the same day the cracks in Ascendent General's skin would stop glowing and the light would fade from her bright orange eyes. "I know no more than that," he admitted. "Senshi cannot travel through the rift unescorted, because youma are drawn to their starseeds. I believe that the chaotic energy that seeps from the ascendent general's skin is laced with enough chaos to keep them at bay. I cannot say for certain though."

Remarque made a mental timeline in his head; the Dark Mirror Court wasn't so new that Eos hadn't at least heard of them, though the Negaverse was arguably a much more founded establishment. They had more numbers—they were safer.

She was safer.

That was all that mattered.

The Captain flung around a few more names that were fairly unknown to Remarque, though he nodded as though he were on the same page. The idea of giving a star over in the name of the caused seemed painless enough, though Remarque had a nagging in the back of his head that said it wasn't as simple as just handing over a deed to some property. Labyrinthite did not seem to be delighted with the prospect; he had seemed upset about something.

Remarque pretended not to have heard Labyrinthite's cracking voice and instead focused on collecting more information. "That is rather interesting. Your Rift is an odd place. I have never understood why anyone would want to go there. The youma," he waved his hand dismissively, "Seem like such a nuisance." Perhaps it was because of his senshi starseed. "Either way, I am sure I've picked your brain more than necessary. I should probably be on my way. You know. Senshi to save, energy to gather." Another dismissive gesture; he then extended his hand as if to shake. "It's been a pleasure. Unless you have anything further on your mind, I think I might take my leave and leave you to roost until the next interesting thing comes along."

"It is not for everyone," he stated with a shrug. He himself found comfort in the rift and the youma village that had accepted him as one of their own. Before his father's death he had spent much of his time there. "It depends on what you are," was his response when it came to youma. They did not bother him, most tolerated his presence and some even enjoyed it. "Naturally, they are not kind to senshi of any sort."

The starseed of a senshi was too tempting.

He recalled the day he tossed that retched senshi's starseed into the rift and how the youma tore at each other while trying to claim it's energy. Nearly unsettling, but few things unnerved him as of late.

Remarque extended his hand and Labyrinthite looked at it blankly uncertain if shaking said hand would be in his best interest. He was still wary of the dark mirror court and his meeting with Remarque and Virtus did little to settle the uneasy feeling in his stomach. Still, perhaps this was an example of the old, cliched saying 'keep your friends close and your enemies closer," it was often that alliances fell through.

He accepted the handshake and stepped backward, a lopsided grin on his face. He jumped into the air and back on to the roof he had perched on. "Until next time."

Remarque supplied a firm handshake before he withdrew his hand back to his side. His eyes followed the Captain for a moment before he turned. It wasn't necessarily that he didn't trust the man to attack while his back was turned—after all, Labyrinthite had given him no indication that he desired battle. It was a paranoia he had failed to shake. He wanted to trust him—if only because he had ties to Eos.

"Take care," he said in response, absentmindedly wiping his hand off on the fabric of his pants as he departed.
