Cami had never been far from the crech, being somewhat of a child herself. Even after her impression she often snuck there on her days off, or volunteered to help as part of her chores. But in recent turns, a smothering regime of extra lessons had kept her from coming back. Since she had barely spent a single candlemark in Ista before being thrown into a Candidate's robe and pushed onto the Sands, and since she was brand new to the Weyr before she Impressed, Cami had a lot to learn to catch up to her fellow weyrlings. Add to that the extra duties of a junior weyrwoman, of which she knew nothing, and you could maybe forgive her long absence.

See, Cami had never lived in a Hold or a Weyr or a Crafthall. She lived in a small settlement of no more than a few dozen people. They didn't even have a harper- part of the cause for Cami's extensive extra lessons- so she never knew anything about dragons, except that they could fly and breath fire. She'd found out later that golds were apparantly rather important (or at least Leith certainly thought she was) and that the Weyrwoman was the most important of them all and that Cami had the sole task of helping her. Ticene, she'd come to realize, did pretty much everything that had to do with the Weyr (that wasn't done by the Headwoman) and Cami did, well, whatever was left!

Even so, there was nothing she would rather do with her time off than spend it in the creche with some old friends and indulge in that childishness she so often had to put aside. The problem was finding the time. So, when several of the childminders came down with a cold, Cami jumped on the opportunity to 'help out'. Now she even had a legitimate excuse. 'It's a little understaffed right now', is what she'd heard, 'you won't have to do much, just play with them to keep them busy'. Sounded easy enough to her, though they seemed a little reluctant to leave Cami alone with them.

As she approached the creche, her mind delighted with the thoughts of how they must of grown, and whether they would remember her, and if they were as astounded by Leith as they used to be, when she let them ride on her back and slide down her tail until they all got yelled at (though mostly her) for doing something so supposedly dangerous (though Leith assured them that they were all perfectly safe).

Ionan, who was quite fond of Ticene--and of Jennes and many other volunteers--was in a particularly bad mood that day. It was post-touching, generally a happy time, full of hope. Not for Ionan. The six turn old had wandered onto the sands--and yes, he understood that he shouldn't have. Still, Calith had been scary. He'd never seen her like that! It'd frightened him.

He'd converted that fear into anger. Calith had no right to act like that! She was being naughty! He wasn't sure he recognized Cami, either. She seemed familar--like someone he'd heard about or seen in a sketch. Her voice was familar, certainly. Almost as if he'd played with her before--a long time ago. "Hi, I'm Ionan!" he introduced himself, forcing a smile for the goldrider's benefit.
