It had been one of those days. The kind of day that had seemed to be going so well. At least until she'd left the sanctuary of her room. She was used to scorn and nonsense from her classmates, but what they thought hardly mattered. No, it was the looks and muttered asides from her teachers that had set off her internal warning systems.
And it was her own unintentional eavesdropping that had sent those little warning pings screaming. Chariklo clenched her fists together hard enough for her fingernails to break the skin of her palms. It wasn't fair or right. Why did her step-mother have to come here? Why had she been forced to endure a face to face meeting with that b***h and sit quietly as she was belittled, and berated for not being a perfect student? And why, she thought darkly as she sent her precious mirror wraith out to harvest a bit of energy from some random stranger, was she being made to endure the lies that Bitchtits had clearly told her teachers about her? To hear one of those teachers actually calling her step-mother a "poor thing"!
For the first time that since she'd been taken into the Dark Mirror Court, Chariklo's face was dark with anger and her usual wide, teasing grin was nowhere in sight.

With her own mirror wraiths gorged on the energy of some lowlifes, Super Sailor Navi had little to do with the rest of her night save wander. Well, there was the option of returning home and enjoying a full night's sleep, but the girl wasn't all that tired at the moment, so why not make the rounds around the city to see what she could find? No reason, that's why. You could never be sure what you'd find within the streets of Destiny city at night. She wasn't looking for teammates, but that was who she ran into first. One of their newer awakened members, Sailor Chariklo, whom Navi had only had minimal contact with up to this point. "Not that I would really know," Navi drawled out as she came walking towards the other girl. "But you're looking unusually grouchy this evening." Based on their previous, and very short meeting, the Senshi of Tumbleweeds had gathered that the girl before her was generally a cheery sort, and comments from Quinn/Leto backed that assumption up. Tonight Chariklo looked like she was ready to strangle somebody. Magical war for power aside, that is. "Something nagging at you?" The click of short heels quieted as the ginger haired girl came to a stop just past the shadows of a nearby building, head tilted gently to one side in consideration. She was curious to see how the Senshi of Seagulls was doing, but first it seemed important to see how the girl behind the fuku was fairing.

Jumping slightly at the sound of another voice, Chariklo waited a breath before turning her head and glancing to see who had spoken to her so casually. Upon seeing a familiair gloss of red hair, she relaxed and managed a friendly enough headnod. Then, she recalled her wraith, making its shard was safe before she turned around fully.
"Evening, Red," she replied. She thought breifly about making a crack about Navi's powers of observation then dismissed the notion. In her current mood it would only come out sounding mean. So instead, she thought a moment about the question, fingers clenching into a fist and then unclenching in an odd sort of rhythm.
"Did you get along with your parents, Navi?" she asked finally. "I mean, like, did they ever lie about you to people or treat you like a freak?"
Chariklo badly needed opinions and advice. She knew how her step-mother worked, after all. And now that she was a piece of something much larger than herself, she couldn't afford to give That b***h any grounds to try transferring her again.

Navi had a smile waiting for Chariklo when she turned to face her, tucking away her mirror wraith as she went. "Evening," was the easy response to the tanned girl's greeting, and she couldn't help but chuckle at the nickname. Despite her ginger curls no one ever called her 'Red'. It was probably for the best Chariklo kept her comments on Navi's observational skills to herself. The Senshi of Tumbleweeds was generally understanding, but she didn't really take kindly to being talked down to. Though she was a fair bit more patient where the members of her court were concerned. The question about her parents caught Navi completely off guard, and whatever lasting grin the girl had had on her face faded away all too quickly. "I, um.." She didn't talk about her parents much these days, but she had a very good reason for it. "I Did, but I don't see them anymore." There was no way Chariklo would have known about Navi having had to have given up her former life after she was awakened into the Dark mirror court. Not just her identity, but her friends, her old life, and most importantly, her family. "I was an only child, and my parents were very kind." She frowned, considering what the other girl was saying. "You're parents tell lies about you?"

Oh. OH. Well s**t. Chariklo the hint of an embarrassed flush creep over her cheeks as she stood and felt horribly awkward for a moment. Shame was enough of an alien concept to the brash girl that for a few terrible seconds, all she could do was stare.
"Well, ******** me, I'm sorry, Red," she finally spoke in a soft, almost gentle voice. Chariklo was quick enough to pick up on the way Navi used past tenses, but clearly meant that, as far as she could be sure, her parents were still alive out there. And it was clear that she loved them and they had been good to her.
Reaching out, she brushed her fingertips against Navi's arm in a concilatory gesture.
"Well, my dad just kind of ignores me until his inner guilt builds up and then he tries to have these horribly stilted father-daughter talks with me. My step-mother, on the other hand, is the spiritual b*****d child of a shrew and a harpy. She's the reason I'm out here instead of in California, y'know. She does that y'see. I keep getting transferred to different schools. And she was at school today to have a meeting with me."
Bleak rage flickered deep within Chariklo's sunset eyes. It had never bothered her before. But Destiny City was quickly beginning to feel just as much like home as California. She had friends out here. She had the Dark Mirror Court and her new responsibilities. Hell, the Dark Mirrors were the closest she had to a family since her mother had died.
"I don't know what to do," she continued in that soft, alien voice. "I know she was lying to some of my teachers before I saw her. If she tries pulling me from St. Mags and throwing me somewhere else, I really don't know what I'll do. I hate her."
As she said the words, she felt a pull in her gut. And the tiniest seed of an idea take root in her mind. When she had more time to think, she'd examine it. In the meantime, she had a teamate to hopefully help her figure out some stop gap measures.
"She's probably already hopped her jet back to sunny so-Cal. And maybe she won't try to royally ******** over my life this time, but I don't know. But I'm still stuck trying to figure out what to do."

"It's alright," she answered quickly, eager to get past the moment of awkwardness that had sprung up between them. Chariklo hadn't known, so there was no reason to dwell. Navi smiled, and while it took a little more effort then it should have, it grew brighter as the other girl brushed her hand along a freckle kissed arm. They barely knew each other, but it meant something to Navi that Chariklo cared. She was happy when the focus turned from her own parents and onto Chariklo's, and she leaned to rest her shoulder against the wall beside them as she listened. The blonde's family life was far different then anything Navi had had to deal with. It was hard to imagine living with a father that did his best to ignore you, or worst yet, a step mother that did everything she could to actively sabotage you. "I would go and talk to my teachers to find out what was said," she offered, lips twitching thoughtfully. It was a tricky situation, and Navi didn't have any experience in that sort of thing so she honestly didn't know what advice was best. Except.. When it had happened to Navi it had been heartbreaking, but she'd also had a lot to give up. If Someone was truly miserable in the life they had, then starting over fresh might seem very appealing. "I had to give up my identity and family when I was awakened because members of the White Moon watched it happen. Leto was the same, and another guy that was awakened when I was." She pursed her lips, then frowned, wondering why she was bringing this up. Even if Chariklo wanted to give up her civilian identity, and that was a big if, she wasn't sure Ares could do that just on a whim.

Chariklo gave a small, non-commital grunt as far as talking to her teachers went. It might be worthwhile in a few days once gossip had a chance to spread. Easier too. But she had a feeling that she already knew the gist of those conversations.
And when Navi revealed that she'd had to give up everything, Chariklo felt her eyes go wide. It seemed like such an extreme course to take. But then again, if Navi's awakening took place in front of a bunch of White Mooners.... No, it was logical, but it still felt extreme.
"It is something to consider," she said quickly, wanting nothing more than to ease Navi's frown. No wonder she hadn't wanted to talk about her parents! That she had immediately elevated her in Chariklo's already somewhat biased view of her teammates. With characteristic impulsiveness, Chariklo moved to throw her arms around the other girl in a bone cracking hug. And to move the conversation topic to one less emotionally painful than family.
"So you've been a Dark Mirror from the beginning then? How in hell do you keep all us newbs straight in your mind?" Chariklo couldn't help but laugh at her question. And while she knew that there were varying levels of newb-ness within the ranks, she couldn't help but try to tease a little. She certainly didn't know who everyone else was yet. It would be funny if an older, more established member were the same.

It was extreme. Navi believed it then, and it was still true now. She'd adapted, gotten used to her new life and even embraced it, but that didn't make the lose any easier to deal with. Cooping had come in the form of her roommate and best friend, along with giving her grief and lose a target. It was actually rather petty, but none one yet had pointed that out, and Navi didn't care to examine it that closely. A blink of hazel eyes followed the sudden weight of an arm going around her shoulders in a bone crushing hug, but a soft smile was quick to follow, and she lifted a hand of her own to rest it on the other girl's wrist. She appreciated Chariklo's understanding, and it made her like the girl all the more. She chuckled as she was asked about keeping all the newbies in order. "There aren't that many, really." At least not that she knew about. There could be more out there that she hadn't met yet, freshly awakened. "But I've always had a head for that sort of thing." She shrugged, grinning. Lydia was a bit of a bookworm, or a nerd, or a geek. A fashionable one, but still. It wasn't as though the Dark Mirror Court had all that many members as of yet, so they weren't too hard to keep track of. "Who all have you met yet?"

Who all had she met now? Chariklo's sunset eyes narrowed in thought as she considered the faces and names she'd gotten thus far. As she thought, she ticked names off on her fingers.
"Umm... Ares, Leto, yourself, Virtus... those're the names I know from actual meetings. During the ambush, I saw a chick in purple glued to the side of a dude with long-ish blonde hair and a creepy chick with coffins. Never caught the names of them as i was sort of busy at the time," she replied drily with a mischevious grin.
"And of course, I know Ares tossed one or two through her mirror during the fight. We all saw that. But I have no idea who came through the other side."
Even as she spoke, she made a mental note to meet the faces that she couldn't place a name with. Particularly those who'd been saved during the fight. They'd probably need a friend or two to help them through any rough patches.

The delicate point of Navi's chin dipped in time to Chariklo's labeling off the names of their teammates. Though she stilled at the description of someone she hadn't met yet. She would have to ask around the blondes for more details, and perhaps seek out this new chick in purple herself. As for the two she didn't have names for, Navi could help out with that. "If the blonde was a girl, it was Lesath, if it was a boy, then Remarque." She grinned, remembering the way Requiem had referred to the two when she and Leto had been choosing teams among the original newbies. "Coffins is Requiem." The news that Ares had awakened another couple new scouts during the ambush awakened mixed feelings within the Senshi of Tumbleweeds. She was of course thrilled that their numbers were growing, but if their baptism by mirror was anything like her own during a battle then they would have to adopt a new identity just like she'd had to. It made her very eager to find these new rookies. If she was right, then they were going to need all the support they could get. Getting back to the topic at hand though, Navi offered a smile up to the other girl. "Virtus is mine," she stated simply, brows dipping minutely for a split second. "Side from who I've already named for you there's also Deneb Kaitos, Al-Janah, Orpheus, Thule, Danae, and Gaia." She too had been using her fingers to tick off names. "That I know of, in any case." IF Ares had been actively seeking out new soldiers then there had to be a few she didn't yet know.

"Remarque then," Chariklo nodded as she made a mental note. And hey, as long as no more blonde girls got recruited, she'd be able to identify Lesath if she ever saw her. So bonus!
"Requiem, huh," she murmured with a barely perceptible flinch. "Appropriate! And not to worry," she replied with an easy grin to the other girl's simple declaration. "He strikes too many little brother vibes for me to get any ideas. And I know better than to horn in on another's territory."
Indeed, the idea of doing something like that to anyone else, much less a teammate made Chariklo feel squeamish. It was underhanded and sneaky. Two traits that she despised in other girls. No, if Virtus was Navi's, Chariklo was happy to leave it at that and simply indulge in sisterly activities.
As for the other names, all Chariklo could do was file them away for later identification. It was a start.

Navi was grinning as she listened to the other girl talk. Amused, and pleased. "Good to know," she answered after a moment, chuckling faintly at Grant being referred to as a little brother when he was a good few years older then the both of them. "Anyways," she added, tucking a curl behind her ear. "If you'd like me to go into more detail about the others I named, I'm glad to, but not standing out here in the street." The both of them just sitting around idly was sure to attract the wrong kind of attention. "Why don't you come by the apartment sometime, and I can give you the scoop on the team as I know them?" Including any and all gossip she had on the various members of the Dark Mirror Court that she was familiar with. A glance up at the moon showed it hadn't moved much, but the approaching turn of seasons had the Senshi of Tumbleweeds curling her arms around herself to fend off the soft chill that claimed the evenings every night. "If don't keep moving I'm going to freeze my a** off, and it looks like you've also filled your energy quota for the night." Curiously she wondered if Quinn would mind the other gril stopping by so late. Then she remembered that Quinn hardly ever went to bed before dawn and shrugged. "You could stop by now?" Even if the other girl couldn't, Navi wasn't keen on standing around in the chill any longer. Fairymount Shall we call this one finished after your post, then make a new one maybe if Chariklo decided to come with?

With a small start, Chariklo brought herself out of her musings and noticed that her own skin was showing goosepimples a=plenty. With a lop-sided grin she shrugged at Navi as if to apologize for keeping them both standing out in the cold.
"Details would be amazing," she replied gratefully. And then added with a tinge of regret, "But not tonight, I think. I didn't realize it was so late. I'm gonna need my sleep if I want to keep a step ahead of any step-motherly plots."
Though she spoke lightly, her thoughts were anything but. And she doubted she'd actually sleep. What she wanted, at least for the moment, was time alone to think and figure things out. She could always visit and have girl chats later.
"Go home and get warm, Red," she spoke in a gentle, affectionate voice. "And thanks for the advice and the offer. I'll see you around."
Before she turned to leave, she gave the other girl's shoulder a soft squeeze, waved and began jogging towards home. There was a great deal to think about. Beejoux Yeah, I think this can be wrapped <3 But I'll have Chariklo head home for now.
