This is a PRP between Van (Kurama no Koishi) and Shi Xiu (Honeybii).

Setting:
Up in the Northern mountains, two Lunarians have a chance encounter during their search for the Goddess.

Van heaved a sigh as she adjusted the white fur cloak around her shoulders, breathing in the chill mountain air. She was admittedly unused to the frigid temperatures, having lived in a rainforest and then by the beach for most of her life. Still, the snow on the cloudy mountains that were her birthplace were also her namesake, and that if nothing else enabled her to tolerate it. This was no vacation, however.

The captain wasn’t the type of woman who liked to look back on what had once been, and her intentions with this trip were the same. Her training with the Shaolin masters inside the Imperial City was winding down, the old sifus running out of things to teach her. Indeed, her mastery of that particular martial arts style was nearly complete, but this certainly didn’t mean that she was finished training. There was always something to improve on, something to learn, and so long there were Lunarians above her in the Legion there was no reason to rest.

She didn’t know it yet, but she wasn’t searching for just another guy to teach her some fancy ways to hit things. At this particular moment she couldn’t say exactly what she was looking for, only that she’d know it when she felt it. Going with her gut wasn’t her preferred method of figuring things out, but the impossible frustration of trying to overcome her stagnating abilities had taken her to a desperate point. It was why she was trying to come full circle at her birthplace, starting from the beginning.

Her “instinct” had taken her to what appeared to be a monastery, though the place seemed quite forsaken at first glance. A bit of color amidst the black and white of snow and trees just ahead caught her attention, and upon closer inspection Van could see that a purple-robed Lunarian had taken to meditating outside in plain sight. It was hard to tell whether he was one of them or whether the place was truly abandoned and he, too, was simply a visitor. Van would have asked, but she was spiritual enough that she had second thoughts about disturbing him.

Looking around again, trying not to appear too perplexed, she hoped someone else who looked less busy would turn up. Or maybe the meditating Lunarian would hear her eventually. She cleared her throat quietly.

Kurama no Koishi

The days had dragged by, leaving Xiu feeling nothing but listless and distract. The monotony was killing him, but he couldn't seem to find a way out of the hole he'd fallen into. It was a slippery slope he'd gone down and there had nothing to grab on to. With Sakn gone, there was no one left to support him...at least in the way Xiu wanted. He felt distanced from his Masters at the temple, despite them assuring him he was just depressed.

Depressed. Xiu snorted as he adjusted his footing in the soft snowfall and flowed into the next movement of his mantra position. He distantly realized he'd been standing in the snow for a long time, but it was a fleeting thought as he held his left toe kick before settling on both feet once again. Xiu didn't know someone had entered his temple area as he performed his breathing exercises. The cowl and heavy winter robes he wore cut off most of his vision. However, most of the time, no one got this far up the mountain anyways, so what was there to see?

The clearing throat that broken the mountain silence sounded like a canon boom. Xiu yelped and startled so badly that he ended up tipping into a snow drift. He disappeared for a moment into the white flush before his face appeared again. He hastily pushed his cloak hood off his head so he could glare at the person who had disturbed him. He took in the tallish form of the woman, his scowl deepening.

"Can I help you?" He asked, trying to keep his voice even despite his annoyance.

Van quirked an eyebrow when the man who had been meditating promptly launched himself into a nearby mound of snow. It hadn’t been her intention to startle him so, though she should have known with the way his focus hadn’t wavered until she announced her presence. The captain strode forward, the expression on her face a bit rueful, though the expression hardened further when she noticed the glare that he was leveling at her now. During her Academy days she might have fought someone if he looked at her the wrong way, but she was far removed from that now. As a captain, it literally paid to be diplomatic, no matter how difficult it was.

“My apologies,” she murmured after a pause, offering her hand to help the man out of the cold snow. “I did not mean to disturb you.” Violet eyes did a brief appraisal of the Lunarian before her, taking in the long hair and robes. It was impossible to tell whether he was a Noble or a Legionnaire, or if he even belonged to a faction, but it was possible that he was a soul conduit. Many of those who frequented the temples were, though Van was one exception to that.

“I’m looking for the Shaolin monks,” she continued, realizing that her statement was regretfully vague. There were a handful of monasteries in these mountains, but she was hard pressed to find a monk she could call master, let alone one who would take her in as an unbeliever. “Perhaps you could point me in the right direction.”

It wasn’t likely that this man knew much about what she was looking for—he didn't look like a fighting monk—but she figured it was worth a shot.

Xiu ignored the offered had and stood on his own, studiously swiping his robes clean of snow. He realized unhappily that this person was taller than him. Perfect. If he wasn't grumpy enough already living on this mountainside. Being reminded of his small stature only heightened the feeling and nearly snapped at the woman again before catching him. He did snort derisively at the comment about Shaolin monks though.

"Those has-beens?" Xiu asked disdainfully, pushing his hair out of his face. "They're three days west of here, nearly on the other side of the mountain. If you're looking to train, you might have better luck with the Yamabushi samurai." Not that Xiu knew overly much about any of the warrior monk classes. Their ideals of life was so different than their meditating, peace loving brethren, that they didn't really have much to do with each other.

"You'd best get going if you want to find suitable shelter by nightfall." Xiu did NOT want be around anyone at the moment, especially not a beauty like the woman before him. While his eyes tended towards other men, even he could admit that being in the presence of a good looking lady was a bit unnerving, especially one who exuded such...authority. "If you'll excuse me," Xiu added, stalking past the fighter. He trudged awkwardly through snow piles nearly up to his knees, dragging his cloak behind himself.

Van let her hand drop to the side when she realized that the man had no intention of accepting her help. By her judgment, he could have used it, if only to expedite the process, but she took no offense to his reaction. After all, if it’d been her, she would have done the same. These were assurances she had to make to herself to maintain her calm, anyway. It wouldn’t do to get into an argument with a random Lunarian in the middle of the mountainside, no matter how rude he was. There were no guarantees that there was anyone else around for miles.

The corner of her mouth twitched when he scoffed at the men she’d trained under for the greater part of her fighting career, and she fought not to look affronted, particularly when he named another, smaller sect of warrior monks.

She’d hardly even call them warriors—in her mind, Yamabushi samurai were monks who were sometimes competent enough to poke things with a spear. Certainly they didn’t have the kind of weapons mastery that the captain was looking for, though they were a step up from the testy Lunarian standing in front of her, to be sure. He didn’t even look like he could pick up a sword.

When it became apparent that she was going to have to recapture his attention, the captain unsheathed one of the short swords hanging from her waist and flung it after him, its dark steel landing point first in the snow mere inches in front of his path. “Did your masters teach you insult every stranger who comes to you for help?” she snapped after him, her tone suddenly icy. If he was going to belittle the great masters to whom she owed her skill, she’d surely return the sentiment.
